Pistons visit Darko
Here's to hoping Darko Milicic shows some of that same fire and grit in tonight's game against the Pistons. (I'm not saying I want the Grizzlies to actually win, but I'd at least like to see Darko play well.) As for the Pistons, they may be without Rasheed Wallace, who's feeling ill. If he does play, says Sherrod Blakely, he'll come off the bench.
I'm still on the road so I won't be able to watch this one, so help me out and keep the comments lively tonight, eh?

I really don’t hope Darko does all that well simply because I don’t want to read all the Pistons fans tomorrow talking about how we gave up on Darko too soon.

I dont want darko to do good either since hes not playing tonight on my fantasy team. Rudy Gay on the other hand…

I really hope Darko does well AND turns out to be a great player for rest of his career. Because i do NOT want to hear 5-10 years down the road, “how stupid it was for Detroit to pass up on Carmello Anthony, Dwayne Wade, Chris Bosh, Cris Kaman, Kirk Hinirich, TJ Ford, David West and Josh Howard to take an absolute ‘no-body’!” To me that would be embarrasing (good thing we won the Championship that year or people would be talking about that TODAY!)

i wondered about that comment too. Maybe a bit of a translation thing?
Would that hate filled talk get him a serious infraction if it was in the USA? OR where the heck was that interview at?

stones shooting very well. Lots of bullet passes from the top down into the paint for jmaxx to baby eat. Enjoying this game!

Ouch, burying them with a 43-24 lead and timeout Grizzlies. Sheeds interior defense helped build up this lead, their bigs are having a tough time getting past him. Nice plays by Afflalo scoring 2 layups in a row.

opening few minutes seemed like it would be competitive…not anymore

It was a knee to his thigh, nothing to worry about.

pretty quiet on the dbb tonight… looking good tonight. I am really impressed with jmaxx’s development. He’s a monster out there.

I am currently house-sitting in a place with no cable and no internet. (love you though, grandma). All I have is my phone. Is Darko really playing that well? I just noticed per espn, that he led them in scoring the 1st half.

Hes playing okay but memphis has been lousy overall, imho
by piñon lopez on Dec 11, 2007 8:36 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
Memphis honestly has possibly the weakest defense of a Pistons game that I have watched so far…

does anyone have a link for watching this online?

90-74 at the end of the 3rd…i wonder if we will get past the “century mark”…lol
by Diablo on Dec 11, 2007 8:59 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
pathunt – keep this link.. give it a shot. most links only work for 1-3 minutes after they are posted. best luck. probably won’t get a link at this point late in the game. look back there before the start of the next game.

Century mark surpassed. 10 point game though, we’d better not throw this away. (doubt it, but…)
Headline in Memphis paper tomorrow morning, “Babies littering the floor of FedEx Forum, man seen fleeing the scene wearing Piston blue.”
NBA League Pass has Memphis broadcast crew. It seems like forever since I’ve heard Special K and Blaha!! Their color guy sounds like Matthew McConaughey…bah!

Any word on why Max got the start over Sheed? Is Sheed’s subsequent rotten game possibly related? Nice first half from Darko tonight.
by LawyerBoy on Dec 11, 2007 9:17 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
sheed was said to be feeling ill before the game.

LawyerBoy: ESPN pre-game report said that Sheed wasn’t feeling well and would not start but would dress. Nice James Edwardsesque fall away Sheed!!

Sheed had flu symptoms. Got to love him though, as soon as the Grizzlies get guarded by Sheed they give up the ball or miss.

Closer than it should have been, but a win nonetheless.

PL – thanks for the effort. I missed it.

Not our game, but say a little prayer for TJ Ford tonight. I’m sure you’ll see the highlight (or low light) of Ford hitting the floor hard after a foul from Al Horford and possibly reinjuring that spine of his. Scary stuff.

Obviously a win, so I’m nitpicking, but…
That looked like Pistons circa 06 – good first half, but mailed in the third quarter, and an unnecessarily tight 4th quarter. That said, Sheed was sick, and Hayes was off, too. What the hell happened with Murray?
by Rob G on Dec 11, 2007 11:01 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
Best part of the night had to be Rudy Gay’s double dunk d’oh! Two missed dunks in a row!

The Darko Outburst
It happened after Darko’s team lost to the Israeli national team in the European Basketball Championships – the lost meant that Darko’s team would not qualify for the next round — basically they were now out of the tournament.
Throughout the tournament Darko really complained about the officiating and after the loss to the Israeli team he went on a tirade against the refs saying inter alia (for you lawyerboy) “he will kill them and rape their daughters.”
In the end he was fined around $15,000 by the Euro equivalent of David Stern.
BTW – I watched the game and Darko really did not impress. His team was heavily favored – the Israeli national team is not very good and he really should have dominated the Israeli center who is around 6ft 9 and maybe 220 pounds. Instead the center Yaniv Green had the game of his life and was the reason Israel won
Israeli was later eliminated in the next round of the tournament

Ohad, I’m sure all you minute watchers noticed that. I’m sure Flip was hoping the starters would put it away and that never completely happened. And from the +/- stats, it doesn’t look like the bench had it today.
Wierd stat: Rip played 41 minutes in a game the Pistons dominated and had a +/- of -1. Anyone see the game? Is this accurate? How is that possible?

Rippy looked damn good to me, and I only missed the first 6 minutes of the game, where Darko did most of his damage from what I understand. It’s possible Rip’s defense was suspect (I admit, I wasn’t watching this game with as much of a fine-toothed comb as usual). His offense was excellent though. Rip had a sick step back mid-range jumper with a defender on him at one point, which really isn’t his game (as we’ve talked about quite often here), but EVERYTHING was going in for him last night. It was the Rip I’ve been waiting for since the start of the season, and most of it came from classic Rip coming off curls or on breakaways, or open mid-range, etc.
