Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

Pistons and Warriors are playing early

No idea of Walter Herrmann will dress today, let alone try another naked dunk, but the Pistons take on the Warriors at 12:30 at the Palace. Tune into HOOPSWORLD for my pre-game, halftime and post-game thoughts, and of course, leave your thoughts on the game in the comments.

Update: No HW stuff today. I gave up and turned around when it took me over an hour to travel less than 15 miles -- and then another hour to get home. I'll be shocked if the Palace is even half full today. I hate snow.

Thanks

The Palace does look empty, the atmosphere of the game reminds of a high school regular season game.

lol @ the video, i wonder if he would of even got a “10” here in the United States.

btw, the Pistons are looking sharp today, obviously the snow isn’t effecting them.

Looks like Brezec is taking a page from the Chris Webber book with those no-look passes. While he’s only recorded one assist so far, he’s passed another shot or two that missed. (On his career, his best assist-per-game stat was 1.2 in 32 minutes)

In one game of garbage minutes, Brezec looks to be a quick learner. He’s integrated pretty well. Too soon to judge, I know, but should be acknowledged.

Afflalo, Hayes, and….Brezec, man…the Pistons are looking deep today.

by Diablo on Dec 16, 2007 2:52 PM EST reply actions

ooo and no sight of self acclaimed Mr. “Fourth Quarter Slaughter”…I wonder what’s going on with that…

by Diablo on Dec 16, 2007 2:55 PM EST reply actions

Brezec looks like he can pass. Its been said he can shoot. So now if he gets a few boards and defend a bit, we’ll have poor mans version of nazr/webber combined.

Also Amir and Afflalo looked really good. I wish Afflalo would take those mid range shots more often

Diablo: Flip saunders probably decided that he wants everyone on the court to get shots not just Flip

…make that two assists, i submitted before that second one ;)

Pistons played as a team and moved the ball for most of the 4th quarter. It looked like they were trying to get jarvis going

the point is that no one was a selfish ball hog – Murray will sit until he learns to play like a team – even in the 4th

Nice game from everyone

How sweet it is. There’s really nothing to say since this was a smattering but I just want to point out Afflalo’s game. 11-4-2. +21 when he was on the floor. That’s what I’m talking about! Great win.

Great game for the Pistons. 6 blocks for Max, very nice. The bench played well, glad to see it. I’ll get to peep the suddenly hot Blazers vs. Hornets tomorrow night at the Rose Garden, should be fun.

Hey Gibson, is there any links that still show the game? I got stuck working today, and it sounds like it was a good game to watch. From what I read you have to have Windows Media Player 10 instead of 11?

by Matt C. on Dec 16, 2007 4:09 PM EST reply actions

Afflalo’s shooting a nice percentage this year (46% on FGs, 94% on FTs). He just needs to work on his range (11% on 3-Pters).

Cheick Watch 2007:

Second Game in NBDL
22 Min, 6-10, 15 Pts, 8 Rebs, 2 Blocks.

Also, according to Pistons.com. He’s listed at 7’1" but he’s grown an inch.

by Quick Darshan on Dec 16, 2007 4:26 PM EST reply actions

Um, does anybody want to talk about Babyeater’s six blocks? Hmmm?

Next game is at the Celtics on Wednesday. They haven’t lost a game at home yet, lets hope to change that. It would be nice to give them their first home loss.

On Samb, I read he was sore and tired after his first game in the D league. So he comes in and puts some slightly better stats in only half the time of his first game, nice. Hope his teeth heal up alright. They said he could be out 2 weeks – 2 months.

I was watching some of Boston-Toronto today, and Boston just cakewalked through them. No one challenges them physically, it’s like teams play as if they’re scared of them. I look for Sheed to body up and bump Garnett on Wednesday and guys like Max and Dice to not back down either. Boston is not nearly as good as their record would have one believe. They’re the ONLY team in the NBA with a better defensive PPG (they’re at 87.0, we’re at 91.4).

I’m sorry, no. I will NOT accept that Boston is better than us on defense, let alone by that much. They’re playing teams who aren’t challenging them or are lost on offense because Boston’s offense is so successful and frustrating for them to defend. We have 2 days rest for this game, where we’re 3-0 this year and winning by an average of more than 20 points. I CAN NOT wait.

Tied for third best record but probably still won’t be in the Top Five of any Power Rankings.

by Quick Darshan on Dec 16, 2007 6:40 PM EST reply actions

Those who saw the game, was Amir matched up with Brandon Wright, his closest equivalent in this year’s draft?

by Quick Darshan on Dec 16, 2007 9:16 PM EST reply actions

Yes, very good game from the pistons.

Maybe Flip will start to get the DNPs so Hermann can dress? Or maybe Hermann and Prezed will trade on/off? And if Flip gets the DNP now, who will get the next DNP whenever Stuckey gets healthy? Wow this team seems really deep now. I have to imagine Flip is gone next to make some room once Stuckey is close to coming back.

@ Quick Darshan – I would probably agree about Amir/Wright comparisons. I think Amir is farther along though judging from nice moves he made tonight.

@ PG4L – YES i saw the good news to. I am freakin excited now about Michigans offense. Especially when I hear Terrel Pryor is considering UoM as a top school. A 6-6 4.4 QB in the V. Young mode.

Wow, that FSN XMo thing is pretty sweet – you can see JMax bare his teeth as he contemplates the brutality of his next dunk… in extremely slow motion.
