The Pistons are at the Garden

I'm a little too young to remember the 1984 playoffs (let alone the fact that the Pistons' bench used to be called the "A Team"), but that's what YouTube is for. The Pistons are at the Garden, and the ball just tipped. As usual, leave your thoughts in the comments.

what’s with rip trying to shoot all these 3’s lately…?

by Sean on Jan 13, 2008 6:17 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

i think teams are starting to leave him open for threes so he’s trying to make them pay. i’m surprised he’s missing so many.

http://www.channelsurfing.net/ Its about 5 from the bottom. I hope he gives Amir and Brezec some time against their bigs. Still been wanting to see more of Afflalo and Herrmann too.

by Matt C. on Jan 13, 2008 6:36 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Afflalo was already in, nevermind on that.

by Matt C. on Jan 13, 2008 6:37 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Amir will get broken in two by their bigs. Not a lot of energy from the Pistons. Can’t say I blame them though. It is the Knicks after all.

i’m gonna tell myself that joe d. drugged the piston’s water to help his old friend isiah out. either that or we’re playing monumentally poorly.

As I sit here watching the Knicks game I am screaming at my TV much as I was last night. We aren’t even attempting to get the ball in the paint and we’re being punished on the opposite end down low by THE KNICKS!

We completely avoid the paint and post up. Live and die by the jump shot. That’s no way to win a title. Doesn’t seem like Flip is getting through.

Something’s going on around here.

wtf!!!

Agreed, we deserved to be blown out.

by Matt C. on Jan 13, 2008 7:34 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

This is making me ill. Seriously, clear the bench, maybe they will play with some heart! (insert many bad words here)

by Q Dog on Jan 13, 2008 7:40 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

not going to win many games shooting .268…. uggggghhh

by Chandragupta on Jan 13, 2008 7:40 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Can we try a little harder to get paint already? All our jumpshots are missing, and we still keep tossing up jumpshots.

by Matt C. on Jan 13, 2008 7:42 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

The dog days of January have begun. Don’t read too much into this one. Fourth game in five nights against a crappy team in the middle of the season.

By the time the Lakers come into town, the real Pistons will show up again.

Time to put Amir Johnson in…

I’ve been flipping back and forth between the Sarah Connor Chronicles and this…looks like I haven’t missed ANYTHING. Ugh, I’m disgusted. There isn’t ANY energy tonight.

by RP on Jan 13, 2008 7:51 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

I don’t even want to watch the 4th. I hope we lose by 20+. If we lose by a close score they aren’t going to look back and figure out what they did wrong. 4-23 in the 3rd that is sad. Our bench will probably do better in the 4th than our starters have just because they are hungry.

by Matt C. on Jan 13, 2008 7:51 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Here’s some good that will come of this:

- Bench minutes in the 4th (good or bad)
- An NBA “off-night” for the Pistons, leaving an “on-night” for a team that matters
- Get that record down a little so Detroit gets a lower seed and an easier road in the Playoffs
- Get people off the Pistons band-wagon so that they can be underdogs again.

I know it will take more than this loss to get all that, but I’m not worried in the least. (Except losses like this add to my hatred of Flip Saunders.)

AMIR!! Lucky we didn’t get the record for the lowest total points at MSG..

by James on Jan 13, 2008 8:19 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

well at least we avoided the franchise record for lowest point total

by Sean on Jan 13, 2008 8:20 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Our 10th loss is their 10th win. From the start of this game it seemed like we didn’t even want to be in New York after playing a our billionth game in 3 nights. NEXT!

by Fadel on Jan 13, 2008 8:21 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Fourth game in fifth night or not, letting yourself get whooped by the Knicks is a troubling sign. After last season, Joe D. said he wasn’t going to tolerate complacency any longer. Losing to New York in this type of fashion can’t make him very happy. I just wish the Pistons that show up against the Spurs, could be present during the rest of their schedule. I understand that they go in swings, but to know that they can appear this beatable against such a weak team is pretty unnerving.

by waltonlikesmen1 on Jan 13, 2008 8:26 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Unnerving? It’s just ONE game. “It was just one of those nights.” But I agree that the Pistons were complacent tonight, but how could you get motivated to play against THE KNICKS? This loss is forgivable. NEXT!

Now THAT is how real pros mail it in!

by anonymosity on Jan 13, 2008 8:42 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

wow… um. Hey Amir got pt! I guess thats a positive. Why doesn’t he play. What has Brezec done to reward him with time over Amir? It seems odd the Flip lets Stuckey play through mistakes and yet he doesn’t for Amir. We need to start a petition for him to get playing time. I know Natalie from Need4sheed would be in

by Matt Gibson on Jan 13, 2008 9:17 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Wow, what a perfect game to drop huge MSG money to see in person. A veritable experience. Although I have to say, the most thrilling moment for either team the entire night was when the arena crew turned on the final drive of the football game – humorously (and predictably), the new york fans definitely cared a bit more about that one than about their anomalously dominant hoops club.

Thank god the uninspired play of the first quarter put me to sleep. Wait, we played less inspired than we did during that quarter for the rest of the game, wha? Oh well, no starter played more than 31:50, w00t w00t. This is about the time I would love to see the re-emergence of PG4L going into cardiac arrest about how we let Nate Robinson hang 13 on us. Other than that, I agree with those DBBers who are ready to forget about this game and move on to the next one.

Brad: Another poor choice of timing for any DBBer to hate on Flip is how I see it. It’s not like he failed to make an adjustment. He can’t exhort his guys into getting their legs back. Not his fault when you get stomped like this.

Matt G: Brezec is a seasoned vet who isn’t still growing into his body, that’s what makes him get PT. He also works his ass off out there, not at all to say Amir wouldn’t, but this is such a moot point to me (ie: a good problem to have) seeing that Amir is TWENTY and never played college ball, I don’t know what else to say. Stuckey is 21 and played two college seasons, even if they were at Eastern Washington. If Amir gets no burn next year, then I’ll hop aboard the “No PT for Amir freakout” bandwagon, but I can’t see any reason why I should hop on during this season.

by LawyerBoy on Jan 13, 2008 10:26 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

I guess I just always root for that young bench player that doesn’t play. I was one of the biggest Carlos Delfino guys and I still think Acker can do something as odd as that sounds since he doesn’t know what a crossover is.
I just dont whats wrong with playing Amir. I dont think he’ll cost the pistons any games, and he has “potential”. My thinking is just get him some minutes, like Max got last year, so he can develop and be more ready for next season. I just see more pluses for Amir getting pt then Brezec but I admit that I’m probably being biased.

I didn’t see the game, but this game sounds pretty shocking. Even on their worst night, the Pistons players should still be better than the Knicks players. Ugh.

that game sucked. a lot.

wtf happened?

MG: Maxiell got a handful of DNP-CDs last year. Sure, it’s fair to say Amir gets worse treatment, strictly in terms of on court burn, than Maxiell got last year, but Amir, while being drafted the same year as Baby Eater, is more than 4 years younger. That makes a HUGE difference in my book when you’re talking 24 versus 20.

I see where you’re coming from though and of course there should be more time for Amir to get in outside of garbage time. It does seem a little suspect or counterintuitive, I will grant you. I’m just coming from the perspective of, it’s not worth my time worrying about it since we have him locked up through 2010 and we’re 28-10 right now. Next year, I think he needs to get the treatment not unlike Maxiell is getting this year, and hopefully he’ll shine in that role. Besides, if we keep playing like we did today, he’ll be starting in no time. Nothing against Amir, but I think we can all agree that we don’t want that happening.

Matt G – I’m all for the young bench players but acker is giving such a shitty season in the euroleague i don’t see him even warming the pistons bench next season…
