Pistons host Cavs

The Pistons are hosting Ben Wallace and the Cavs tonight at the Palace, though you'll have to take my word for it if you were hoping to watch on TV. Yet again, this one won't be shown in metro Detroit, though (cough, cough) there may be ways around that. In the meantime, you can do it the old fashioned way, following along with the live stream or refreshing the online box score.

It's a shame more people won't see this, because Michael Curry plans on making this a sneak peek into the regular season. From the Detroit News:

Expect the starters to play regular season-type minutes.

"We tried to do that against Dallas the last game and give our (starters) a chance to be on the court in the fourth quarter," Curry said, adding he wants to see his starters "get more into the minutes they'll playing in the regular season."

Chauncey Billups is expected to play; Kwame Brown and LeBron James will not. But big Ben Wallace will be in uniform, and despite the downward spiral Big Ben's career has taken since leaving Detroit, Billups is convinced he's still the same player:

"You have to have the right talent around him, and you have to know how to use that," Billups said. "I don't think Chicago or Cleveland really know how to use Ben. That's why you see his numbers drop off. If he was here, I think he could pick right back up where he was at."

What did you expect him to say, the truth? As always, leave your thoughts in the comments.

Wow, that interview with Z made me respect him a lot more. Very humble.

As a fan in KY, let me just express my thanks for all those who share links to watch the games.

I get Fox Sports Ohio via cable television, with the pre-game Cavs preview, but not the game itself. TV makes no sense.

Hey, the hook from Billups. Nobody has seen that.

With the economy the way it is, the NBA and TV better figure out this crap. Seriously, the days of spending $480 per month on cable are over.

Love to watch the vets coaching Amir after the extra pass. Am I the only one watching, or is there a conversation on another thread?

Or, maybe, I’m the only one who cancels a date with his wife to catch a preseason game.

Everyone just agrees with everything you’re saying, that’s all.

The NBA should be broadcasting all of their preseason games online, I have no problem watching commercials or giving my email address to be spammed, just let me watch the damn game.

Amir looks really good defensively. I’ve watched the game against Dallas and this one and I haven’t seen him get bullied around by bigger guys.

by Jim on Oct 22, 2008 6:58 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Since we already know what Stuckey can do driving, I really like seeing that jumper of his.

by Matt Watson on Oct 22, 2008 6:59 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

I’m watching.

Amir with the block, Amir with the and 1, etc.

Seriously, I love watching preseason.

Amir with 3 blocks in 11 minutes.

Who is this McDyess fellow coming off the bench? I love his jumpshot. Future of the franchise?

I like seeing AA drive without hesitation.

by Michael on Oct 22, 2008 7:12 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Weak offensive foul on AA. He looks so much more confident offensively so far…hopefully it carries it over to the regular season.

Gotta love the law firm of Elk & Elk. As a marketing guy, I could do some work with those dudes.

Ha, Sheed’s already getting into it with his best friend Varejo.

I’m a die hard and all, but I’m watching the World Series. If you love baseball (or any pro sport) what Tampa has done is one of the biggest stories of the decade. Not that I’m rooting for them (my Mom is a Phillies fan), but when they win and blow up the big market methodology, I won’t exactly shed a tear.

Oh yeah, and will somebody who’s been watching give a short first half summary for those who aren’t?

by Other Matt on Oct 22, 2008 7:56 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

1st half summary. Mo Williams hits every shot. Pistons appear to miss every jumpshot, but actually shoot 50% somehow. Stuckey looking impressive and aggressive. Amir with a few blocks in a few minutes. Tie game.

In the third so far the Pistons are pulling away a little bit.

Amir sinks the fall away jumper with no time left on the shot clock!

by Jim on Oct 22, 2008 8:20 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Amir and the other Pistons bigs are really making the paint a tough place to score. Very good.

I think the Pistons suddenly realized that Lebron isn’t playing.

by Michael on Oct 22, 2008 8:24 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

The box score suggests Amir is channeling his inner Ben. I’ll be interested to see Amir’s rebound rate after he gets some legitimate burn. 4 blocks in 23 minutes with only 2 fouls seems to have silenced the “BUT HE FOULS TOO MUCH” crowd. Nicely done, Amir.

Somewhere DBB’s most irrational Amir cheerleader Mike is sobbing happily.

Herrmann checks in and immediately drains a 3.

“4 blocks in 23 minutes with only 2 fouls seems to have silenced the "BUT HE FOULS TOO MUCH" crowd. Nicely done, Amir.”

Well, he fouled out in 22 minutes last week. And that’s coming from a fan. But yeah, this is the sort of play that earns the starting spot. We got 16 point, 13 rebounds and seven blocks between Amir-McDyess tonight. That’ll do.

Ok, I know its only preseason. But someone help paint a rosey picture for me. Sheed was 2-12, in like 25 mins with only 3 rebounds. WTH? Someone spin this for me please. I beg of you!!!!!

by E-Double on Oct 22, 2008 9:11 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Stuck’s line looked excellent. 8-12 from the field, 4-6 from the line, 20 points, 2 boards, 5 dimes, 2 steals, and only 2 TOs in 24 minutes.

by Other Matt on Oct 22, 2008 9:13 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Spin: Its only preseason.

If we can get the Amir-McDyess numbers tonight from any working combination of our bigs, I’ll be happy. That’s some good production.

by Garrett on Oct 22, 2008 10:25 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Someday, Samb will be the three point threat that Manute Bol was. Ah, Don Nelson, you crazy old bastard.

So, did Amir’s blocks come mostly off big men or guards? Hickson and Varejao got a lot sent back apparently. I’ll be a little heartened if he swatted shots from guards and still avoided getting into foul trouble.

by Paul M on Oct 22, 2008 10:57 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Anyone think, based on last year, that we glue Stuck’s butt to the bench tomorrow?

by Trysdor on Oct 22, 2008 10:59 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Samb’s tramp ball needs to go on youtube so I can see it.

Looks like Amir and Dyess had a block party.

Well, if you think Stuckey averages 20 points in 24 minutes, it won’t matter, will it? Also, ‘Sheed doesn’t do well in All Star games, if you’re looking for further evidence that he doesn’t take exhibition seriously.

“ugh, ja adande is a straight-up detroit hater / lakers homer who hasn’t gotten over the detroit upset/spanking of la in 2004.”

I thought something was fishy with Adande’s blurb. I mean with that logic Dallas wouldn’t have been an elite team until they made the finals, Phoenix wouldn’t have been an elite team since the turn of the millenium, and Indiana wouldn’t have been an elite team when they had the best record in the NBA. All teams that the media were GUSHING over in their prime.

Btw, of course us Detroit fans are used to getting the shaft from the media, but did anyone else notice what was missing from the Eastern Conference links?

Meh, Adande isn’t a very perceptive writer anyway.

I really liked how Billups said nobody knows how to use Ben Wallace
except for Detroit. That was awesome. Truth or otherwise.

You gotta have a new number if you come back though homes. The new
owner of #3 is Stuckey and he ain’t givin’ shit up. You can have 36
 though.

I haven’t read his comments on the Pistons in years. Though from what I recall Barkley is closing in pretty fast on him for being the #1 Pistons basher among the ESPN clowns.

I’d take Ben back if we could get him, but definitely not at his current salary.
