Do the Pistons want Zach Randolph?
From Newsday, via MLive: "Most teams with any interest in the Knicks' players are in observation mode right now, according to some NBA team executives. For instance, the Cleveland Cavaliers and Detroit Pistons are believed to be monitoring Zach Randolph, who has played very well so far, but his contract ($48 million left over three years) still compromises the Knicks' 2010 plan."

“Do the Pistons want Zach Randolph?”
No. No, they do not. Not now. Not ever.

Um, save for an ugly, ugly contract- I wouldn’t necessarily scoff at a selfish 20/10 PF who likes to bang in the post and make baskets. I’d take that over 2008, three-happy Rasheed without blinking. 2003 Rasheed, now that’s different. But hell, I’m open to anything against a guy more terrified of the post than, well, something that’s really afraid of the post.

This is the tough thing about having no bad contracts – if we move 16mm of annual salary we’re going to be giving up way too much. Agree he’s probably better than rasheed, but his contract is unbelievably bad. And while I hate chemistry talk in general, he might actually be a big enough jerk to warrant it. If ny wants to move him I’m guessing the deal is going to involve a big expiring coming ny’s way…and our only large expiring is a pseudo-expiring in that we actually value rasheed’s play (and not just the cap flexibility his contract provides).

There are two things that Randolph does better than Sheed: rebound and create shots for himself. He’s a superior rebounder for sure, but his shot creation comes at the expense of good team offense. He’s worse at everything else, even TS% (which ain’t a good sign for a guy who’s supposed to make his living in the post). Teams are also able to double him without any repercussions because he’s such a godawful passer. Defensively, there’s absolutely no comparison.
I get frustrated with Sheed’s perimeter oriented play too. He had the highest FG% on inside shots on the team behind McDyess, and given this, he really has no business taking as many jumpers as he does. But preferring Zach Randolph, who’s an awful defender and passer with an overblown offensive game, is going a little far.

Worst offensive possession in history? If not, it has to be close.

I had Randolph on my fantasy team last year and by half way through last season he was jacking up 1-3 “why not” three-points a game just because he would make every 5th one. I also think his rebound rate is so high because he spends almost the whole game within 10 feet of the basket. Good? Bad? Overated? Need?
