Rodney Stuckey stays home
As of last night, the Pistons were confident Rodney Stuckey would make today's trip out West. When it came time to leave this morning, though, he stayed behind for additional testing. From Pistons.com:
One week after the Pistons traded Chauncey Billups in the deal for Allen Iverson, Rodney Stuckey stayed home for further medical observation after a bout with dizziness during Sunday’s loss to Boston.
Stuckey, the team’s No. 1 pick in the 2007 NBA draft, went to his knees as the first half of Sunday’s game ended, then rose slowly but stayed hunched over as Pistons strength coach Arnie Kander talked to him for a few minutes. Stuckey walked toward the locker room under his own power but didn’t return for the second half.
[...] Stuckey is listed as day to day and has not yet been ruled out for Tuesday night’s game against Sacramento. If he’s cleared by doctors today, he could rejoin the team in time for tipoff. The four-game road trip continues on Thursday night in Golden State and Friday night against the Los Angeles Lakers before concluding on Sunday night at Phoenix.
Update: I have more at FanHouse.
(Kudos to DBB reader Keegan for the head's up.)

Wow, that is one brutal road trip. I hope Stuckey is cleared, we WILL be needing him.

Come back soon, Stuck. We want more of this:

@Garrett: That is one nasty pic, look at House’s foot. His foot is firmly planted into the ground while the rest of his body is about to slam into the hardwood. I’m surprised it wasn’t House that had to leave the game because of broken ankle.

Will Bynum has been doing pretty well, so there may not be a huge dropoff. Still, this is too nasty a roadtrip to be banking on that. I hope Stuckey gets back quickly.

Hopefully it’s nothing serious…you’d like to have all our key components healthy now while we’re trying to get used to playing with AI.

“Pistons rookie Walter Sharpe arrived at Arco Arena more than an hour late for Monday’s practice. Curry said Sharpe missed the team’s plane, which left Monday morning.”
Think he slept in? lol

With Kevein Martin out and 2 other guys for SacTown, I think this is a great opportunity to let AI go wild or have Bynum step in and get some experience. Would like Stuck back for GS because of the tempo, but healthy for a game on Friday at th Lakers would be better. We should be able to handle the Kings & Warriors, even without Stuck and Dyess.

Seems odd that Stuck would be missing the trip from allergy medicine. Hope he doesn’t have any Eddy Curry issues going on. And by Eddy Curry issues, I mean the heart problems. Not the morbid obesity.

Garret +1. great pic.
In search of silver linings: This should give AI and Rip some time to get used to each other. I assume they’ll play heavy minutes together. Maybe it’ll make the rotations simpler for Curry. I dunno, I’m kinda flailing about.

Hot Rod stays home and Sleepy misses the plane
Rookie Walter Sharpe missed the team plane to Sacramento Monday morning. He flew on his own and arrived at ARCO Arena about 4:20 p.m. PST, about an hour and 20 minutes into the Pistons’ practice. He will be fined, but Curry said he would dress for the game tonight, if Stuckey was out.

McClosky was right on this one. Except for some reason none of the Detroit media seems to be giving it any play, whereas last year when Amir’s car broke down on the way to the airport and he missed the plane the Pistons media people crucified him.
In fact I believe it also happened on the Pistons 1st West Coast trip and Amir wasn’t playing at the time any more than Sharpe is now. In fact Amir was still recovering from messing up his ankle when he stepped on Hayes foot during the pre-season.
Johnson misses team flight

SEATTLE — Amir Johnson just can’t seem to catch a break, it seems. The latest setback isn’t that big a deal, but it is noteworthy because, for whatever reason, things just don’t seem to be going right for kid.
He had some car problems heading to the airport, and wound up missing the team plane bound for Seattle.
I know this because when I boarded my flight to Seattle, Amir’s face was literally the first one I saw.
“Car problems,” he said after I gave him a “Kid, now what happened?” kind of look.

The Pistons media is still hating on Amir who through the first couple of weeks in the season ranks statistically among the top 6 Power Forwards in the league, when you look at more than points per game.

It’s a little more unacceptable when a third-year guy makes this mistake than a rookie (with a sleeping disorder, no less), but to be honest, I did make that connection in my head before reading your comment.

Now Amir fans are claiming media bias?

Top 6 power forwards? Maybe in the Central Division of the Eastern Conference. But seriously which is Amir ahead of statistically: Duncan, Garnett, Bosh, Stoudemire, Jefferson, or Boozer?

Daivd Letterman’s Top Ten Reasons Why Rodney Stuckey left the game:
10. Will Bynum slipped Benadryl and Vicodin in his Gatorade.
9. Instead of lulling his defender to sleep, he lulled himself to sleep.
8. Altitude sickness.
7. Saw Randy Moss in the stands. Got really nervous and wanted to ask for autograph…
6. Was breifly inhabited by the ghost of Adrian Dantley.
5. Made a bet with Calvin Johnson that the Pistons would be Detroit’s worst professional sports team on Sunday. Won bet.
4. Was making a really avant garde joke about what Billups’ departure meant to the tea, that nobody really got, and now he’s kind embarassed.
3. Got food poisoning from his dinner of tasty fresh oysters. Regrets nothing. Except eating the oysters. They weren’t very good.
2. Narcolepsy is contagious.
1. DEEEEEETROIT BAAAAAASKETBAAAAAALLLL!!!

In Stuckey’s absense, Tayshaun will get the ball even more. It’s pretty amazing what numbers he’s putting up this season. His rebounds are way up, and he can’t miss the basket.
There’s a poll and analysis at NBA Gauntlet comparing Tayshaun Prince to Luol Deng. Tayshaun has a narrow lead.

Anyone know if the game will be broadcasted on Justintv tonight?
And Tay has been awesome so far, although id like him to take it to the hole quit abit more tthen settling for jumpers.
by Rban on Nov 11, 2008 4:04 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
Walt will be fine.
Stuckey will be fine.
More importantly, Tayshuan is now a Point Forward!
I’ve been preaching this to all that will listen that Tay as the playmaker is the ONLY way this team succeeds. Rip is an off the ball player and im sorry to hurt everyone’s dreams of grandeur but AI is an off the ball player as well. (Remember Eric Snow?) AI is great but we need to play to his strengths and not change him.
We haven’t changed Sheed since he has been here. What we did was incorporate what he can do into our outlook.
Peace,
John W. Davis
