Pistons host Cavs
We're 10 games into the season and the Pistons have played only three games at the Palace. If that looks funny to you, there's good reason: only two other teams (Portland and Atlanta) are still waiting to play their fourth home game of the year. Fortunately things will start to even out: five of the next six games are at home, with the exception of tomorrow's re-match in Boston.
Tonight the Pistons host the Cavs, and will attempt to chip away at Cleveland's one and a half game lead in the Central. I'll be at the game, but instead of working I've been invited to the Grand Opening of the Canadian Club Terrace for some pre-game whiskey tasting and dinner, which is why you're getting such an early game thread. Blogging, it's a glamorous life, I tell you.

This is off topic, but I’d really like to see MC use Amir the way Portland is using Oden. Throwing him out there, dealing with his ups and downs even if it costs a few wins, putting him in the best possibility to succeed.

I wont be able to watch this one as I have an exam. I hope I return in time to see the end. My damn life is interfering with my Pistons again dammit!
Prediction: Detroit wins, 105 – 92
Or thats my opinion anyway.

Wait shinons – you mean we should be patient with a 21 year old with insane upside who every nba statistician agrees is one of the most productive players on the roster? But don’t we need to try and win every game in the regular season? And isn’t it more fun to give up on amir 5 games into the season and say that a guy who’s had one of the highest rebound rates in the nba is too soft?
Sometimes I just don’t get you.

Man, LeBron is just on a whole ‘nother level. Everything he does is just pretty much better than everyone else on the court. He moves quicker, jumps higher, runs faster. Even his passes seem to be more crisp. I think I’d spontaneously combust if we got him in 2010.
by Garrett on Nov 19, 2008 8:09 PM EST reply actions
Frustration: thy name is Amir. Awesome rebound and outlet to Rip, he ran the floor hard and got it back for a wide-open dunk. Then he comes back down and falls for a Varejao pump fake 15 feet from the basket and fouls him.

This was a very good win, real confidence booster against basically the conference favourites. Especially considering the boys came from behind (pause) and ended a big streak. I guess we can hang with the big dogs with this new lineup. This and the Laker win proved it. Lets hope we get more of these and less of those Phx/Bos games.

"In Detroit they used to call him my second son," Larry Brown said. "The last thing I want to do is pressure him. … But he would be perfect for this team."
Even LB is trying to make a run at him. Garnett calling him family and LB calling him his 2nd son. This is getting a little ridiculous.

I’d rather see Dyess go to LA or even gasp Boston (if he doesn’t come home to us) than the Bobcats. I mean, c’mon. Why would he go there to lose? If he can’t be a Piston, I at least want him to have a chance at a ring.

Hoopsworld hates the Pistons worse than ESPN.
However, it could be that they are right about Dyess signing with Larry Brown and Co.

by Mike on Nov 19, 2008 10:30 PM EST reply actions
I can’t imagine Dyess signing with Charlotte. For a guy comfortable with his location that doesn’t want to move around, and is essentially still playing only for the sake of winning a ring, it just wouldn’t make sense.
by Greg on Nov 19, 2008 10:32 PM EST reply actions
Jim,
That story has been all over the internet today. I don’t think it’s anything too serious. Pounds (head nod to Sheed) just had a good rapport with Dice.
He’ll be a Piston. He HAS to!
by TDP on Nov 19, 2008 10:32 PM EST reply actions
McDyess would be out of his friggin mind to sign with the Bobcats. Come home Dice. Max misses you and wants to have your babies.
by Laughton on Nov 19, 2008 10:34 PM EST reply actions
perhaps signing Dyess in Charlotte means that Detroit can fleece MJ again and trade Amir for Dice
by Boney on Nov 19, 2008 10:34 PM EST reply actions
Since Billups has been with Denver they have beaten only one team with a winning record, the Celtics.
Billups will break down before the end of the year.
We got the better of the deal
by Mike on Nov 19, 2008 10:35 PM EST reply actions
We never would have scored 55 + points in the 2nd half tonight with Billups instead of AI and we would have lost.
by Mike on Nov 19, 2008 10:36 PM EST reply actions
I think the story is blown up a bit; Charlotte’s guys said they have contacted Dice’s agent. I could contact Dice’s agent tomorrow; doesn’t mean Dice will join my rec team.

reminds me of one philly waived players and soon afteward stole elton brand from the clips… everyone thought he’d return to the clips, same way we all think (hope) dyess returns to the pistons
let’s hope he doesn’t leave
by Mannie32 on Nov 19, 2008 10:41 PM EST reply actions
sorry i meant traded, philly traded players (for nothing in return) to free up cap space… they didn’t waive em… but still… bobcats waiving players is a scary thought with this other story going around
by Mannie32 on Nov 19, 2008 10:42 PM EST reply actions
The only way I could accept Dice signing with Charlotte is if they w trade Wallace and Okafor for the rights to the Pistons second round pick in 2050.
by Laughton on Nov 19, 2008 10:42 PM EST reply actions
I’d trade:
Amir
Sheed
2nd round
for
Okafor
Dyess
1st round
by Boney on Nov 19, 2008 10:44 PM EST reply actions
and then I’d trade Okafor for Samuel Dalembert
and then I’d trade Dalembert for Chris Kaman and Thad Young
by Boney on Nov 19, 2008 10:44 PM EST reply actions
and then I’d submit a commenter column telling everyone how Jason Kidd is overrated, and then reneg on my column
by Boney on Nov 19, 2008 10:45 PM EST reply actions
You gotta believe Dyess is going to Charlotte by the way this is catching on so quickly. How many times does this have to be established:
"I don’t want to be no ring-chaser, I don’t want to be moving team to team being a ring-chaser. I can’t do that. If I have to do that, I would definitely give it up."
Dyess is going to go wherever is best for him (whatever city his new wife likes the most).

how are sheed’s numbers looking since the trade – he seems like he has improved significantly with iverson’s arrival. does iverson’s presence mean that sheed doesn’t have to be the only overly emotional person?

Scott from ESPN just said that the Pistons were mad because AI has been taking to many shots. Is this true???
by Carey on Nov 20, 2008 12:43 AM EST reply actions
this team has really changed if anyone’s pissed about shot count. i’d need some corroboration from a legit source to back it up before i believe that lazy-eyed hack.
curry’s rotation is uncomfortably different but insanely effective. as time was dwindling in the 4th, i had to rub my eyes to make sure i wasn’t seeing things with spellcheck and stuck still on the floor and rip and tay on the bench. and he’s got his fingers on the right buttons obviously. he’s completely unafraid to stick with the hot hand at any ego’s expense. i admire that. he’s been true to his pledge thus far.
if we can get a W tomorrow in beantown….
by JackDutch on Nov 20, 2008 2:07 AM EST reply actions
Wow, did the Blazers ever put a whoopin’ on the Bulls. The little I watched, the Bulls were actually playing good D but the Blazers just kept moving the ball til they got an open lane to the basket.
by Quick Darshan on Nov 20, 2008 2:11 AM EST reply actions
Didn’t see the game. Couple questions:
Cavs were on a back to back, did they just run out of gas?
Was Rip on the court at the end of the game? If not, I wonder how he’ll handle it.
by Quick Darshan on Nov 20, 2008 2:12 AM EST reply actions
Carey, AI only took 16 shots. That doesn’t seem too selfish to me.
Afflalo had a +12 +/-, in 14min.
by Quick Darshan on Nov 20, 2008 2:17 AM EST reply actions
QD – Rip was not, and Tay sat most of the 4th. I’m guessing they’ll be fine – the younger players were playing extremely well, and I would hope the vets recognized that. Especially since this isn’t June…
by Rob G on Nov 20, 2008 2:29 AM EST reply actions
Another observation:
5-6 is good enough for 8th best in the West and only 10th best in the East. I think this might be the year where all the playoff teams have a winning record.
by Quick Darshan on Nov 20, 2008 2:44 AM EST reply actions
qd-i don’t think it was an energy thing for the cavs but i could be wrong. we had some fantastic defensive plays in the 2nd half including two BRILLIANT steals by a.i. i’d like to think it was mostly due to curry and fires lit than any fatigue setting in for the cavs.
