Pistons are in Denver
It's Chucky! Sadly, he's still sidelined with a hernia and won't be playing tonight -- since the game actually already started (my bad), I'll keep this short. Leave your thoughts in the comments, for those of you not stuck Montana/Idaho State.

Willld 1st quarter. Tayshaun buzzer-beater rattles in, 30-28.
BTW, SA/ATL game started out pretty insane. Like, SA only scored 5 pts in the 1st q.

Did I just pop this thread’s cherry?
Uh, anyway. I like 30 point quarters from the boys!! They look focused tonight, glad to see it!

Shooting well thus far. If we could stop Iverson from picking up garbage rebounds….

AI ran into Jason Maxiell. He’s gotta be more careful next time, lol.

It’s getting ugly. Looks like Arvis is back.

Stuckey’s got to learn they aren’t going to give him any calls taking it to the rack. Did anyone see Crawford getting knocked on his can earlier?

Yeah. The mack truck that is Rip bowled him over.

I can’t wait until the President’s Day Sale is over. That way, GM can take that stupid ad off the air.

The halftime entertainment at the Pepsi Center: Digital Underground.
Wow.

This just in from the I never saw this coming department…. A look back at the highest scoring game in NBA history.
Agreed on that lame commercial.

Sauce, you mean you don’t dig hearing “Hail To The Chief” every 45 seconds or so? Maybe someone should call Homeland Security.

I loved how Blaha said “Carmelo Anthony is high in the game with 15”. I love unintentional grug references.

If the Pistons pull this one out, it will be impressive. They look completely dead.

Yeah V, I just don’t eel the vibe with that one by GM.
Also, I love Digital Underground. Humpty Dance FTW.

Okay, 1st stretch of 3 minutes in the 4th . . . lousy. In the penalty already for Detroit . . . Denver will try to nail them with the fouls.
AI really wants to win this one. I really hope Detroit denies him yet again.

Rip is really carrying us.
On a side note, I think the Denver color guys are really pleasant to listen to. Slightly homerish, to be sure, but not over the top. They have good chemistry, they are pretty knowledgeable about the Pistons. Far and away the best opposing announcers I’ve listened to so far.

Nail-biter. Both teams want it. Both teams are pulling out the tricks.

great game, fun to watch, close, pistons played well, not the best but not a terrible game, imho.
Joey Crawford is on a permanent power-trip. I bet he’s not someone you’d invite over for dinner and enjoy talking to.
by piñon lopez on Feb 25, 2008 10:25 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
Tight, but it is good to see us win a tight one. Pinon L, I don’t think I would invite Crawford over, even if he did bring Steve Javie as a date.
by Q Dog on Feb 25, 2008 10:28 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
Joey Crawford is utterly useless. I wish Stern would’ve run him out of the league for his ridiculous feud with Tim Duncan. Crawford is more suited for the WWF than the NBA.

Tay: 20 points on 8-for-15 shooting, 6 boards, 9 assists.
Rip: 20 points on 8-for-19 shooting, 8 boards, 6 assists.
Chauncey: 20 points on 5-for-12 shooting, 7-7 at the stripe, 8 assists.
Dyess: 16 points on 8-for-13 shooting, 13 boards, 1 block.
Sheed: 10 points, 9 boards, 1 block.
Now that right there is why we have the best starting five in The Association. End of story.

Hey, Chauncey’s free throws help us in the Hollinger rankings.

Only Chevy could follow the “This is Our Country” gem with this clever take on Hail to the Chief. I’d feel better about Michigan’s economy if it weren’t tied to the decisions of idiots.

Nice job shutting them down from the field, although they hit the offensive boards. McDyess was good, too.
Utah will be tougher, to be sure. The last time the Pistons beat them was that miserable 64-62 game that set basketball back a few years.

Other Matt: it was noted by George Blaha that one of those Denver broadcasters, Scott Hastings, has a ring with the Pistons.

it’s nice to see dyess knocking down that J again with confidence

Damn, Tay played great – nine assists? Nice. very nice.

We shot like garbage. Aside from Dyess and Prince, we were pretty poor converters. We won, yes, but it was a poor night across the board. Its nice to see our starters play as a cohesive unit, but if they could have converted like they typically do we would have seen similar starter scores but in less minutes.
Jarvis Hayes goes from 18 points one night to ZERO in 10 minutes. Its February, we’ve ensured for .500+ this month. Can we give Fabio some burn? Who do I have to fight to get that done?

Other Matt: Just for the record, the Denver broadcasters (dunno if it was Hastings or their PBP guy) said that Maxiell “doesn’t have much of an offensive game” as he was posting up one of the Nuggets. Before I even got the chance to scream “BS” at my television, Maxiell proceeds to stick a turnaround J in his defender’s grill. I’m not trying to pick a fight over the merits of the Nuggets commentators, but as a Pistons fan (meaning we’re always feeling slighted and quick to defend our boys) that whole sequence puts their knowledge in question for me.

Well, if they watched tape of Max from this month, they might have a case – he’s been missing those little jumpers quite a bit. He needs a fresh baby (hard to get on the road, you know).

The ridiculous things about that President’s day ad is that it is the same ad for Saturn, Buick, GMC etc… Who on their marketing staff thought that was a good idea? There was one break during American Idol last week where that commercial played three times. I’m buying a Honda just to piss them off.
by kevin s. on Feb 26, 2008 11:40 AM CST reply actions 0 recs
Kevin: Perhaps GM’s marketing staff thought it was October 2001, not February 2008. That could explain the ill-timed, incessant play to patriotism.
by LawyerBoy on Feb 26, 2008 12:06 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
LB, I definitely didn’t hear that comment cause I was in and out doing laundry during the game. Not that Max has been good offensively lately, but that comment would’ve raised and eyebrow. Anyway, it still doesn’t change my opinion that I thought they were far and away the best opposing announcers I’ve listened to on League Pass.

Kevin S: Uh, not that you watch American Idol, right? Your girlfriend or wifey must have had it on in the background while you were, like, playing poker or something…

Kevin S. has a blog and he lets his readers decide which shows he’ll tear apart for their amusement. That’s why he was watching Idol, I’m sure.

So I have been watching NBA League Pass tonight, just flipping around, and in two separate games, much was made of “if we were just in the eastern conference, we’d rule.” This was said by Clyde “The Glide” Drexler in the opening to the post-Yao era game tonight against the Wiz and by one of the announcers (who may have been quoting) doing the Sacramento game. What the hell gives? Sure the east has more teams under .500, but I don’t see the point in bringing up the question of GEOGRAPHY.
I’ve also heard several other theories recently, like taking the top 16 teams, no matter which conference, into the playoffs. (several times in the last week or so) On the Basketball Jones podcast, they even threw out the possibility of eliminating several teams altogether.
Your thoughts, oh wise basketball blog readers?

Dumb…teams are just mad because the West is getting stocked-piled with talent young and old by the year and they don’t know how to do deal with all the competition.

Saw this on ESPN tonight, can’t say I disagree with it…AI and Melo ae great, but they need to trust their teammates more-not exactly a bad supporting cast there in Denver….
