Pistons and Mavs play on the Super Bowl undercard
The Pistons host the Mavericks this afternoon, a nice little appetizer to tonight's big game. Ball tips at about 2:30, and it's a national game (ABC) for all you out-of-towners. I'll be at the Palace with pre-game, halftime and post-game reports for HOOPSWORLD, and as usual, feel free to leave your thoughts in the comments.

Maxey’s back!
I hate the broadcasters on national tv…

Stuckey’s getting a bit of attitude. Not sure I like it. He had some glares for Jordan Farmar last game too.
Just play, kid. You haven’t done anything yet.

(in reference to announcers asking what Maxiell ate this morning and why he’s exploding at the hoop)

great hustle by the stones. shame on the foul trouble on amir but thats energy for you.. 2 of his fouls were lousy that bordered on giving dallas the benefit of the doubt. where is everyone? being on the west coast i was able to have a pistons and pancakes breakfast this morning for an 11:30 start time

Already in the bonus. This is going to be a rough quarter.

There’s no way Hayes can guard Nowitzki.

pinon, i’m here- but stuck refreshing the box score. i found out 15 minutes before the game my local ABC affiliate is playing iowa women’s college basketball instead of the F234ing pistons game. I’m furious…
trying my damnest to find a chinese tv feed playing the game.

just me or a lot of cheap fouls on the pistons newbies?
by piñon lopez on Feb 3, 2008 2:36 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
Not a bad 2nd quarter considering Dallas was in the bonus with ten minutes left.

Sauce would be happy with Amir Johnson’s 1st half statistics… surprised he’s not here raining on anyone’s parade.

Let’s hope Rip’s leg bruise is loosened up for the 2nd half.
by Quick Darshan on Feb 3, 2008 2:42 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
first time this season i get to see a stones game live. hurray!
if rip got those two layups in and the shot from the baseline like he usually does we’d be up like 14 already…

Yeah, this is nice. Did Tay’s wife pull some strings on him or something, why after a 10+ game flat line, does he now have this explosiveness? Or did he have an unreported ailment or something? Last two, three games he’s been much more aggressive, what gives with the sudden change?

Tayshaun pulls a Baby-Wade to get a flagrant on Dampier. His shoulder was injured until 1.6 seconds after he saw the flagrant whistle. Nice.
Quit fouling Nowitzki.
by kevin s. on Feb 3, 2008 3:20 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
Yeah, Kevin S., he had his hands over his face, but in the replay, Dampier hit him no where near his face.
by Quick Darshan on Feb 3, 2008 3:23 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
Oh, and his name is Pookie until the Heat make it to .500
by Quick Darshan on Feb 3, 2008 3:24 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
that was no flagrant but i’m not upset about that – tay doesn’t tend to fake it imho, in a general sense – say compared to rip.
Good to see the stones returning the favor to dallas after our last game with them.

Tayshaun got some nice love from the ABC broadcast team for his consecutive game streak (2nd in the NBA to Bruce Bowen) and toughness.

sit the starters already. nothing is gonna happen in 3 and a half minutes.
jesus, stuckey attacked the basket with dirk on him. the israeli broadcasters said that “he has no fear” and that “he is a ball player, plain and simple”

Every game, you feel like saying, “This is Stuckey’s best game.”
by Quick Darshan on Feb 3, 2008 3:52 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
note to dallas: lowest point total of the year. you’re not making it past the first round this time either…

I’ve never been more frustrated trying to get the damn game on my computer. The channelsurf site petered out in the 1st quarter for me, a sopcast link worked for about 2 minutes, and even the nba.com live audio broadcast didn’t work until late in the game. I have offended the basketball gods in some way…
Nice to listen to the last four minutes, though.
I’m off to work, enjoy the Super Bowl, everybody. Let’s hope that no one spoils the result for me and I have better luck downloading football tonight than I did basketball this morning.

Rasheed Wallace for MVP. Too bad you can only have 6 fouls… otherwise Amir could get double-doubles, triple-doubles so easy!
by Lemming on Feb 3, 2008 4:27 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
yeah, something definitely clicked for stuckey. the last three games he’s gotten better each one. seriously, to go after dirk like that takes balls, he can stare down other reserve pg’s if he can keep this up.

FYI, there’s a lot of good stuff in my HOOPSWORLD game blog, if I say so myself. Flip on Sheed drifting before the game, Stuckey on Barea after the game, etc etc. Have fun watching the Super Bowl everyone — drive safe tonight.

MSU’s finest came through tonight…Plaxico Burress with the Greatest TD of his career…simply amazing!

It’s great – I just watched the end of the Dallas game, and the crew is making their Superbowl predictions. “Patriots! It’s gonna be a blowout!” says Van Gundy. Ha!

i think what was amazing about this beatdown was how largely absent our two all-stars were. jarvis hayes and stuckey outscored them. and something seems to have clicked with stuckey over the past couple games. maybe it was the rookie game snub….
btw, flip murray was active? why? where was he of the multiple sweatbands, primo brezec?
by JackDutch on Feb 4, 2008 12:13 AM CST reply actions 0 recs
JackDutch – Keith Langlois said in chat that ol’ Primo had the flu and couldn’t go.

i’m starting to dig the teasing it seems flip is giving sheed. it shows he’s loosening up and appears to be working. sheed seems to definitely be putting in a more concerted effort in the post lately.

From ESPN.com after someone asked if Jason Maxiell had a nickname… of course I said “baby eater”
“AvocadoButters (19 hours ago) Report Violation | Ignore User ‘Baby Eater’ I kinda like that.
Can we call him ‘Big Baby Eater’ in anticipation of a post-season battle with Boston."
by Boney on Feb 4, 2008 10:12 AM CST reply actions 0 recs
Boney, there’s also Kendrick Perkins, “Baby Shaq.” All kinds of babies to be eaten.
by Quick Darshan on Feb 4, 2008 11:22 AM CST reply actions 0 recs
Boney, I think it’s a little premature to call him “Big Baby Eater” when Davis waxed us (though hardly Baby Eater in particular) in the last go around, but I am sure come playoff time he will earn the name “Big Baby Eater”.
QD, Kendrick Perkins was/is referred to as Baby Shaq? I didn’t know that. Will that go down in the annals of history as Harold Miner being Baby Jordan?

And on the subject of Mavs-Pistons yesterday, I called it this summer, Jose Juan Barea, total badass. I’d love for him to be one of the Boys in Blue someday.
by LawyerBoy on Feb 4, 2008 12:30 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
I didn’t call him Big Baby Eater.. that guy did. He asked if Max had a nickname and I told him and linked him here! then came back and said he liked baby eater, but then yadda yadda…
by Boney on Feb 4, 2008 1:37 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
Fair enough, it’s a great play-on-nickname-words. I just hope Max can live up to it.
