Appreciating Jarvis

Jarvis Hayes' recent hot streak might be a good sign for the playoffs -- from Empty the Bench: The Pistons’ starters have encountered some very ugly, very prolonged shooting slumps in recent playoffs, a byproduct of fatigue, excellent defensive schemes, and just simply missing shots at the wrong time. It happens. When it does happen—and it will again at some point—Hayes has to be able to come in off the bench and provide some offense.

Not only Hayes, everybody else. I can count on J-Maxx and Amir bringing the energy but Stuckey especially has to be able to create his own shots and drive the lane and get to the charity stripe. A lot of factors are going to play into this year of post-season. I also think Lindsey needs to start playing a couple games to get his legs ready. Honestly it wouldn’t have hurt to play him last night against the cavs because that might be a team we see later in the playoffs. Oh well, time will tell.

Hayes vs. Szczerbiak: I’ll take Hayes, every time.

The most underrated thing about Hayes is that he plays defense well. How did the scouting reports not cover this? He’s been called an average to below average defender and that is so wrong. Anyway, I do realize that Jarvis may cool off again (especially now that Georgia’s season is over), but here’s to staying positive, and hoping he won’t.

The most underrated thing about Hayes is his beard. The thicker it is, the better he shoots…

Seriously, LB, I’ve thought the same thing. The one complaint I had about his D was his tendency to foul, but he’s cut that back, too…

If anything, at least Jarvis LOOKS like he can play. He has an athletic-looking body (without trying to sound Hubie-Brown-man-crush-esque) and seems to move well. He gets down low and is quick on his feet, and he looks like he’s ready to explode at any second with athleticism. I’ve said before that he’s kind of shaped like a young Vince Carter, except with a bullet head. Even if he misses a few jumpers here and there, at least he’ll look explosive doing it.
