If I were a gambling man …
Everyone likes to make predictions before the start of the series, and after recording a podcast interview with Ryan McNeill of HoopsAddict.com this afternoon (look for it tomorrow), I'm officially on the record with "Pistons in six."
I'm not much of a gambler these days (I learned my lesson in college), but if I were a gambling man, what would that prediction be worth? According to Bodog, 11/4 odds, meaning a $100 wager would pay out $275. For entertainment purposes only, of course, here are some other interesting odds in the series:

I don’t know, this is a hard series to read. There’s so many things that can go wrong for both sides. Chauncey’s an x-factor of course, but game 1 will most certainly tell the tale of the series.
That’s not usually the case for the Playoffs. Things don’t usually heat up until game 3, especially if one team is up 2-0. But I suspect that Bos/Det will go into game 3 with the series tied 1-1, and if things go well, we’ll be fighting for our spot in the Finals in game 7 in Boston.
(And by “we” I mean “they,” of course…)

Interesting interviews w/ Pierce and Ray Allen.
“we’ll probably be the underdog”

Woohoo! Join the Pistons in 6 party, Matt! You, me, Dash Rick, Henry Abbott, J.A. Adande, Chad Ford, Jalen “Why did I sign with the Suns last year?” Rose, Chris Sheridan & David Thorpe. Apologies to anyone on the record as Pistons in 6 I might have missed.

Hey, LB, I don’t count anymore? I like the DPs in 6 too.
Matt, thanks for putting up the thread…I got my line from Olympic last night, Bodog hadn’t put up futures yet, and for that matter, neither had Pinnacle (pinnaclesports.com).
I’m going to take a hard look at the props tonight. I like that 11/4 number (+275) on the DPs in 6. I’m having dinner with a friend over at Wynn later…
The bad news, is I think the Lakers are just going to be too much, even though Tay is a legit Kobe-stopper, they just have too much firepower all around this time. But, let’s get this series over with first.

Amended Pistons in 6 list: Matt Watson, myself, Dash Rick, V, Kyle, Diablo, Henry Abbott, J.A. Adande, Chad Ford, Jalen "Why did I sign with the Suns last year?" Rose, Chris Sheridan & David Thorpe. That brings the total to 6 ESPN analysts and 6 DBBers. Any other takers?

I see a lot of the same bad qualities I’ve seen in past Pistons teams in this Celtics team like not getting up for lesser opponents, and a lack of focus. I think all that will mostly disappear against a very good Pistons team on the road so homecourt mostly goes out the window in this series. I think the Pistons show they are narrowly better than Boston. The narrowest expression of that sentiment is a victory in a 7 game series, with Boston winning once in Detroit, Detroit winning twice in Boston.

I’m on the DP-in-6 bus, too – here’s how I see it unfolding…
Game 1 – W
Game 2 – L
Game 3 – W
Game 4 – W
Game 5 – L
Game 6 – W

I think everyone is saying Pistons in 6 because they fear the 7th game in Boston, but I agree the Pistons must steal one of the first two.

I’m also a Pistons-in-six believer, and specifically the same scenario as Steve in OH posted. I think we steal Game 1 — we’re fresh, hungry & rested, and the Celtics have to be exhausted mentally and physically. Our coaches have had a week to analyze & draw up plans for either the Celtics or Cavs (tho something tells me they probably spent a bit more time pondering the Celts), whereas they’ve had a single day after their grueling game 7 vs the Cleveland LeBrons.

Add Brett Edwards of FanHouse to the “Pistons in six” club.

QJ: A 7th game in Boston (if the Celtics should be so lucky, which I know they won’t) would end up having the same result as the 7th game in Miami in 2004-2005; I have no doubt.

Steve in OH seems to be following the Miami over Detroit pattern from a couple years back. Which I think could apply here. Favored team coming off a seven game series against a rested, hungry team.

LawyerBoy,
Add me to Pistons in 6. But only if we agree to disagree with Rip… if he handles his business this series, then I’ll drop my hateful words.
Regards,
Boney

Boney: You’ve won me over with your support over at PiaB (what constitutes a beast really?). It’s time for Pistons fans to unite, even though Rip is my favorite and I tend to defend his honor pretty vigilantly. I don’t expect him to drop 30 even once in this series, but I expect him to play solidly. I hope that’s enough for you.
updated Pistons in 6 list: Matt Watson, myself, Dash Rick, V, Kyle, Diablo, tedwick, Mike Payne, Steve in OH, J, Boney, Henry Abbott, J.A. Adande, Chad Ford, Jalen "Why did I sign with the Suns last year?" Rose, Chris Sheridan & David Thorpe. We’re now at 11 DBBers, 6 ESPNers.

Apologies to Scouts Inc.‘s Mike Moreau who brings it to 7 ESPNers (and Sean W.? Who I thank for the hat tip regardless of if he is in agreement, of which I’m not sure. If so, it’s now 12 DBBers.)
