It’s official: Dave Bing is running for mayor
Rochelle Riley has the scoop for the Detroit Free Press:
Saying that it is time for someone "with a clean, fresh outlook" to lead the city, Detroit businessman Dave Bing confirmed to the Free Press on Thursday that he definitely is running for mayor.
"I've made my decision," Bing said in an exclusive interview two months after the Free Press first revealed he was considering a run.
[...] "I'm not a quote-unquote politician," he said. "A lot of politicians seem to try to set themselves up for a career, so they try to run multiple terms, and I think that's a mistake.
"You can only get elected for one term at a time. If you do a good job, then voters will want to vote you back," he said. "I will keep that option open."

I’m a resident of Detroit for 25+ years, and he automatically has my vote. It has nothing to do with him being a former Piston, but because he seems like a true gentleman. He reminds me of former Mayor Dennis Archer, another true gentleman.

“…he seems like a true gentleman. He reminds me of former Mayor Dennis Archer, another true gentleman.”
I feel the same way, hopefully he will bring back class and integrity to Detroit.

After first hearing these rumors a while ago, I studied up on Bing’s career since he played with Detroit. When Bing was a Piston, basketball salaries were not enough to make a living on. He supplemented this as a bank teller in Detroit. He moved up quickly, proving himself in everything that he did until he ended up owning one of the largest minority-owned businesses in the US. Honestly, if you have some time, read his bio. Its fascinating, impressive, inspiring, a true American story of hard work and success. While I’m far, far from Detroit now, I’d love it if he helped turn that city around… He’s got a lifetime of experience proving he can do it.

Please dont vote for someone because they are a true gentleman. That is just as bad as voting for people because of name recognition.
At least wait for his plan and vision before you give him your vote.
I will say his business acumen would serve well as Mayor (CEO) of Detroit.

I don’t know, John. After 6 years of Kilpatrick, a gentleman sounds like just what we need.
Dave Bing isn’t a crook, that gives him a huge advantage over anyone running from the City Council. Plus, the man had one hell of a jump shot. I support Bing.
