Jason Maxiell: DNP-CD … again

The Pistons are 0-4 every time Jason Maxiell gets a DNP-CD. They've been out-rebounded in each of those games by an average of 7; most of the damage has come on the offensive glass, where they've been out-matched by nearly 5. When Maxiell does play, he ranks 9th on the team in minutes played, averaging 5 fewer minutes than he did last season. Despite this, he still ranks third on the team in offensive boards. What am I missing?

I don’t know what’s going on. Once again, CURRY IS CLUELESS! Our rebounding problems, especially offensive, stuck out like a sore thumb tonight. And Maxiell doesn’t play at all? How can Curry rationalize this move? As far as I know he’s not injured.

by Rahim Muhammad on Jan 17, 2009 2:55 AM CST reply actions   0 recs

I don’t know what Michael Curry is doing. Worse yet, Curry doesn’t know, either.

Too expand a little, the amazing, incredible, unbelievable, astounding, stupefying, jaw-dropping idiocy of Curry is such that he has somehow come up with a rotation where Will Fucking Bynum gets minutes at the expense of Jason Maxiell. If someone asked me how that is possible, before I had seen it with my own eyes, I would have said “I have no clue…”

Seriously, how can a 6’0" lead guards minutes come at a PF’s expense? But, I guess we are now all witnesses to the power of smallball.

by Gabe on Jan 17, 2009 8:53 AM CST reply actions   0 recs

Seriously, we’ve started Amir, Kwame, and Tay as our bigs alongside Sheed (and last year it was Dice)… why not Max? Why shouldn’t he start? Nothing else is working.

I’m not defending Michael Curry because his moves are questionable. But give him some time. He’s working through a lot of change. They are on the road. Give him till the all-star break to figure this out…..

The Gregg Popovich rotation-by-numbers coaching kit for Michael Curry:

Tim Duncan – 35 mpg – Tayshaun Prince
Tony Parker – 33 mpg – Rodney Stuckey
Manu Ginobili – 26 mpg – Allen Iverson
Michael Finley – 28 mpg – Rasheed Wallace
Roger Mason – 30 mpg – Rip Hamilton
George Hill – 19 mpg – Arron Afflalo
Matt Bonner – 22 mpg – Antonio McDyess
Kurt Thomas – 15 mpg – Jason Maxiell
Bruce Bowen – 20 mpg – Amir Johnson
Miscellaneous – 12 mpg – Pot Luck

Just check the latest Spurs boxscore, plug in the numbers, and play! Try to resist giving all 12 potluck minutes to Will Bynum. Mix and match players! Just note that none of the 3 All-Stars on San Antonio play more than 35 minutes. But what does Pop know about coaching!

Seriously thinking, Micheal curry is out of his mind.
I’m a big fan of the piston but right now it is hurting to see all these fullishness going on, # one curry has too much respect for iverson and rip, one of the two is a six man. piston is known for it’s defence and that’s how we win games. playing small ball is not our culture and this is why we are down and out. This is my team out of curry’s team. STUCKEY, AFFLALO, AMIA, JASON, RIP, DICE, TAY,SHEED,WALTER. If you ask for my starting lineup it would be SHEED AMIA TAY RIP AND STUCKEY.

I think If piston is trying to rebuild and curry is going to continue to play a loosing lineup I think he should start playing guys like Walter Sharpe,Walter Herrmann, Alex Acker, Jason max just to see what he can get from them.

Yeah, it makes no sense at all. Maxiell made a lot of progress last year, especially offensively.

Remember the turn around base line jumper he used to have? Or the quick one dribble to the right pull up jumper? He can still do that stuff, but Curry chooses not to play him or to never run any offense through him. Maxiell shouldn’t be the focal point of our offense when he’s actually in, but he deserves to get a lot more opportunities then he’s getting now.

@stuckeyallstar, no he’s not. That’s crazy. The way to win basketball games is to put your best 5 players on the floor together as much as possible. Who cares if they’re not even close to your best 5 man unit, they’re your best players, you put them out there and let them figure it out.

/Curry

by Other Matt on Jan 17, 2009 1:34 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Oh yea, I forgot Curry’s theory…what was i thinking….
so how does “putting our best 5 players” ACTUALLY MAKE US WORSE!?!?!

Two letters AI…..I think he would be great coming off the bench….Rip gets his because Stuckey does know how to get the ball to him at the right places, which is what Rip thrives off from. AI could take over the second unit.
To me, when AI is in…Tay, Stuck, Rip, they just stand around…no movement, no cuts…thus is when we get these 10 and 12 point 4th quarters against sub par teams!
But I guess I am retarded and Curry is genius. What can you do. Yes, I will still be at the game tonight. Darn it! I hope I don’t yell at Curry too much. I am close enough so he will definitely hear me, and I will be drinking enough. Oh gosh, if you see me get kicked out….I will piss in Currys shoes….and I will tell him to grow some balls and bench AI!!!!

@Stuckyallstar2010

No one pisses in Curry’s shoes but me. Don’t steal my schtick.

And can well all promise to never saying anything like, “I know what we need to do! Bring AI off the bench because bla bla bla bla bla…” ever again?

WE ALL FUCKING KNOW THAT. And where’s Petey been? Maybe his stubborn outer shell finally cracked and he sharing a bath with a toaster somewhere.

he’s sharing a bath…

by Joel on Jan 17, 2009 2:40 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

@Joel:
“sharing a bath…” we can only hope. Maybe he’s explaining to the toaster that AI isn’t playing bad, he’s just not getting enough minutes next to Afflalo.

btw, Joel, you are my absolute favorite relatively-new-addition to the DBB community. Thread in, thread out— you consistently crack my shit up. Stick around, my friend :)

Greatest contributions to this site:

Rob G’s “DNP-MCIAFI” and Garrett’s “I like slam dunk shots.”

“Greatest contributions to this site:

You can have only one. Either Max plays and we see actual, in-game dunk shots performed by a true NBA banger, or he doesn’t play, and we get the Maxiell DNP-MCIAFI. I prefer Garrett’s over mine any day.

by Rob G on Jan 17, 2009 4:10 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

I wish we had more slam dunk shots and less MCIAFI, but I don’t think that will happen any time soon. sigh

NEWS ALERT JASON MAXIELL HAS BEEN TRADED. He was traded from the Pistons Playing Rotation to the Pistons DNP-CD team!

by John W. Davis on Jan 17, 2009 7:15 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Actually John, just an fyi; The Pistons DNP-CD team got bought by some guys in Saginaw, and they’ve moved the team and re-named them the DNP-MCIAFI’s.

by Gabe on Jan 17, 2009 9:51 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

If I’m not mistaken, ESPN.com has tonight’s starting lineup as:

Rodney Stuckey
Allen Iverson
Teyshaun Prince
Amir Johnson
Rasheed Wallace

Does that mean Rip is coming off the bench? What happened to “we’ll see after Monday and make a decision on the lineup after that…” ???

Still, it’s absolutely the wrong move and everybody knows it. Rip’s going to lay an egg tonight, AI’s going to go 5 for 20, and we’re going to lose to the Grizz, 88-93.

Over/under: 15 points for the ’Stons in the 4th.

I’m taking the under.
