Allow Yourself to Introduce...Yourself [Open Thread]

Hello-my-name-is_medium

As you are all well aware of, this blog is fairly new to SB Nation.  It started last April right in the thick of the season when everyone was already accustomed to their respective Pistons internet routines.  While I have definitely picked up a lot of readers since that time, I feel like we haven't really had the proper chance to introduce ourselves to one another.  With the first full season of this blog officially starting on Wednesday, I wanted to give us the opportunity to do that over the next few days.

This was something Ian Casselberry did over at the Detroit Tigers blog, Bless You Boys, and I thought it was a great idea (he got from AZ Snakepit).  The major purpose of SB Nation is to generate a community of fans that get together regularly and discuss the happenings of their favorite team.  I think the best segue into a healthy community is getting to know each other and what better time to do that than before the season starts.

I realize some people want to remain strictly readers.  That's fine and I appreciate your readership, but feel free to introduce yourself anyway to let me know you're there.  For those of you who want to become a part of the community, but may be shy, see this as a nudge to get your foot in the door to feel comfortable with sharing your thoughts on this site.  If you're already a regular reader and commenter, don't be afraid to let others get to know you better.

Tell us anything you'd like.  You can start by telling everyone where you're from or how you became a Pistons fan.  You're welcome to share as much or little as you want with the rest of the community.

This is going to be an exciting season, so I'm looking forward to experiencing it with fellow Pistons fans.  This site is nothing without the readers and the discussions we have on a daily basis.

If you're nervous about being the first to introduce yourself, you can read my humble introduction when the site first started (and I'll add to it in the comments).  Also, here is a video introduction of four other big Pistons fans:

Now don't just sit there, start getting to know one another!

These posts are NOT the views and opinions of Detroit Bad Boys. FanPosts are user-created and shall be treated as such. Thank you.

I'll go first...

My real name is Matt and I live in Bay County, Michigan. Location wise I’m pretty much equal distance from Auburn, Bay City, and Midland. My truest passion is music. I play what I can get my hands on and I record mostly instrumental songs. If interested the link in my signature takes you to my music, all free to listen to and download. My favorite bands are Soundgarden, Rx Bandits, White Rabbits, Chris Cornell, Alter Bridge, The Offspring, Linkin Park, Aceyalone, Eminem, and a bunch of others.

Shameless plug aside, you guys may wonder why I willingly call myself madpoopz. Well it stems from a joke from a long while ago and partially from my digestive troubles since getting my gall bladder removed. TMI, right?

Sports wise baseball is probably my first love. The readers here from BYB know this much about me. I got into basketball about the same time as I got into baseball. Basketball is definitely my number 2 sport though. The speed, the physicality, the pure athleticism needed to play. It all makes for a real enjoyable game. My favorite player on the current Pistons team is probably Rodney Stuckey. Seeing how many new faces are on this team, that could change real soon.

Just a couple of final points I forgot to mention. I’m 20 years old and I work in the deli at the Bay City Meijer and am currently single and not enjoying it.

Anything else you guys might be interested in knowing just let me know. I’m a pretty open guy.

The name is Zach

Just moved to Milwaukee after living in Michigan my whole life. I’m 22 and figuring out what I want to do with the rest of my life. I love the Pistons, and when I was 4 years old, I could name the starting lineup for the 1989-90 championship team.

For about 6 years my family had season tickets to the Pistons, but this was back when they wore the teal jerseys and a .500 season was considered a success.

I didn’t buy into the Ben Gordon signing, but after watching him play, I’m starting to warm up to it.

I root for the Tigers, Pistons, Red Wings and yes, the Lions.

But everyone calls me Sunshine. I go to Michigan Tech way up on da UP. Been a fan of a pistons since the 04 season, but i’m only 23.

Wasn’t a fan of bringing in Iverson because his attitude seemed to go completely against everything the pistons had been building for the last few years. I’m interested to see how our rookies will play this season, especially Daye. Out of the current roster, i’d have to say Prince is my favorite player (dang you dumars for not re-signing walter hermann!)

But yeah. i don’t know how often i’ll be on since i’m pretty busy with college and stuff, but i’ll be around. Eastern Conference Championship, here we come!

My Name Is Mark

Ive been a pistons fan since I can remember. Im 33 so id say 33 years. I live in Traverse City up in the northern lower peninsula. I went to the 1st ever game at the palace which was between the Olympic All Stars and the NBA All stars in 1988 I think? We went because Traverse City native Dan Majerle was on the olympic team.

Basketball is one of my fav sports with Football Baseball and Soccer. My Favorite Pistons memory has to be a tie between the 3 NBA CHAMPIONSHIPS!!!! My fav player growing up was Joe Dumars and my current Fav piston would have to be Rodney Stuckey.

As far as this years pistons. Well I have high hopes of making it into the playoffs with a 4 seed but I think we make playoffs 100% I like what Joe D did by trading for Iverson last year which was clearly a move made to get Salary off the books. He then signed Charlie and Ben with the money saved. Now I hear some people say now we cant get any of the big names next year. Really? How many those guys are going to leave there teams? Most will resign except for James in NY and Bosh to hometown Houston. Great moves by Joe to get players this year and not waiting and hoping to get guys next year.

Hey guys.

Hey guys.

Well, I’m Bryan. I’ll have my degree in journalism soon and live in The Hills of Rochester. I’m an editor/columnist over at Fake Teams, the fantasy blog. I’m also just starting over at MichiganPreps.com, which is Rivals.com’s Michigan prep site.

I’m a lifelong fan of anything Kansas City since I grew up there, but adopted the Pistons as my NBA team when I moved here. I believe I became a fan and started attending playoff games around 2001 (good timing), and my dad and I shared season tickets from 2004 (better timing) until last season. I’ve been fortunate enough to see quite a few games, and I can say that one of my favorite sports memories was attending the Lakers series and watching the Pistons win the Championship in 2004.

I hope readership picks up here. I’m not sure of many other Pistons blogs really, so this would be a good start.

Hey everyone

My name is Rob. I’m 21 years old and currently a student at the University of Michigan. I grew up in Lansing and have been a fan of all the Detroit sports teams since I was born. And yes, my entire family is upset I didn’t go to MSU.

In my spare time the time I spend procrastinating from school and work, I write for two sites: Detroit4Lyfe and my personal project, The Gordie Howe Hat Trick. Both are shamelessly linked in my signature.

Unfortunately, I was that guy that thought the A.I. – Chauncey trade would bring a new energy to the team and give them a lift in the playoffs. Obviously, I was dead wrong. I have realized that my future is not as the GM of any sports franchise, as I was also wrong about the Edwin Jackson – Matt Joyce Trade the Tigers made last offseason. I thought the Red Wings would be ok with letting Marian Hossa, Jiri Hudler, and Mikael Samuelsson walk last year. Hopefully any bonehead predictions I make this year will spark some conversation among the readers of this site, or anywhere else on SB Nation I appear.

Benefit of the doubt

I think it was normal for people to give A.I. the benefit of the doubt at first, especially with him making those promises at first that he just wanted to win. I admit I was pretty pumped he was willing to do whatever it took to win. Obviously, we were all fooled.

Championship!?! I think so. eventually....

Hey my name’s Asad. I’m 20 years old, I go to Kalamazoo Valley Community College, though I went to Western Michigan the past 2 years. I’ve lived in Kalamazoo my whole life. I’m an accounting major hoping to finish up spring of 2011.

I became a sports fan in 2004 when my cousins from Detroit got me hooked on Detroit basketball. Since then I’ve gone onto college and became a die hard Broncos fan, but the Spartans hold a special spot in my heart being my first team of choice when I was in middle school but of course my college team wins out. Since 2004 I’ve moved on to root for all of Detroit sports teams even if I don’t watch them.

As for this season I’ve got mixed feelings about it. During camp I was excited and ready for it to start. After watching and looking at box scores of preseason I’m nervous for what we’re gonna see from this team. We’ve gotta get some defense from somewhere and I don’t know if Big Ben can bring it all season. On the other hand Gordon brings us much needed 3pt shooting. At best I think this team is a 4th seed second round team, at worst just missing the playoffs.

I’m not always one to comment on the blogs but I got my bookmarks of Pistons sites I check daily, so hopefully this can become the turning point and I’ll become an active commenter on here. HERE’S TO A GREAT SEASON!!!

Another WMU Bronco

My name is David and I currently live in Kalamazoo MI attending Western Michigan University.

I’m a Die hard Colorado Avalanche fan (I know….) but a close 2nd are the Detroit Pistons. I’ve been a Pistons fan for a long time (thanks to my Step Dad who took me to lots of games when I was young). My favorite player will always be Grant Hill, I owned 3 of his jerseys back in the day. I cried for days when Chauncey Billups was traded (tear).

My favorite Pistons moments were when Chauncey hit that 1/2 court 3pt shot in Game 5 of the playoffs vs NJ and going to “Palace Vision” for Game 7 of the NBA finals vs SA. I was in a suite watching the game with my family when he launched that prayer and I still get goosebumps when I hear the song “Shout” by Otis and The gang (they played it after he hit the shot). The Palace was literally SOLD OUT for that game, luckily I was able to get 25 tickets to get all of my friends and I there. I have never seen that place rock so hard, eventhough we lost.

Hockey and Basketball are my two favorite sports and I absolutely love the fact that the Pistons have seen lots of success without any one superstar. I was willing to make the Pistons my #1 favorite team over the Avs if they would have beat the Spurs (sigh) but I still love watching them anyways.

Hello...

My name is Zac, I’ve been a lifelong Detroit fan in every sport. I’m fairly young compared to the rest of the SBN crowd (17 years), but I consider myself a hardcore fan nonetheless.

I really started to get into basketball about year after the Pistons acquired Jerry Stackhouse, and immediately fell in love with the team, but my main focus was on Grant Hill. When the team dealt him, I was heartbroken, but understood why. Obviously I was delighted in the end to see it eventually turn into a championship. I turned into such a huge fan after that year that I hardly ever missed a minute of any game the following season. During the finals against the Spurs I would literally sit down every game and not even move or get up until the final whistle blew. For some reason I have way more images of that season stuck in my head than the previous one. I still reminisce all the time about when Ben was asked about the Spurs sign that said the Parade was scheduled tomorrow, and his response was “It’s on now”.

I’m also a big Tigers, Lions and Red Wings fan (secretly I also root for the NY Giants). I grew up watching the Red Wings in their young prime, so they were primarily my favorite team.

I’ve been viewing the SBN blogs for about a year now, but I’ve only started posting since March/April (in fact, I only joined so I could complain about the Lion’s draft). I post a lot on BYB and not as much on the other blogs (mainly because the activity on BYB far exceeds any other Detroit blog), but I try to get a post in here or there.

How's it going everybody?

My name is Matt, but since there are usually multiple Matts in every group and this is already no different, people usually call me Wags, Shwag, or Snarf. As you can tell by the signature when it comes to football I’m a Buffalo Bills Fan, and yes I have T.O. jersy…. slight pause for applause… anywho my family is originally from New York so for football and baseball it’s the Bills and Yankees….. allow for cheers…..

For a while I didn’t even follow Basketball, until 2002 then I became a diehard Pistons fan. Loved the fact that it was actual built team not just a star player and bunch of supporting players. I thinks it’s great someone put together a blog for the Pistons, i was already a member of the Bills blog, and it’s wonderous what a bunch of people with a passion for a team can put together, sure this will be the same thing.

Uh let’s see other stuff…. originally lived downstate near Monroe, went to school at Central Michigan University… and for all my Motown String Music brothers that went to Western, HOW ABOUT THEM CHIPPEWAS! 4 YEARS IN A ROW! Just kidding, I spent alot time in K-Zoo when I was going to community college so I can definately appreciate the good partying you guys do. Other than that I’m an “EZ Rock” dj in Frankfort, MI about 35 min south of Traverse City.

so yeah I get down with Huey, Rod, Billy, Phil, and Mike Bolt (that’s Michael Bolton to those of you who aren’t in the know, by the way his new song written by Lady GaGa (Murder My Heart) – is Amazing!) Not quite the music I listen to but hey a job is a job.

Looking at the season, so many variables and changes don’t know what’s going to happen one main thing is that i hope the national media will stop ripping on Jason Maxiell, with the situation last year it’s not fair to say he’s unmotivated and lazy. Other than that looking forward to Wednesday, the blogosphere and yeah GO Pistons!

Another introduction

Hey everyone, I’m Russ, and I live in Leonard. Small town by Rochester. For all you Pistons fans out there (like we all are), you may actually know me, at least indirectly, if you go to the home games. I’ve been a beer vendor at the Palace for three years now, and every season, you can see me at the entrances, and in the upper level during the game yelling at people to buy an ice cold beer.
I’ll be shorter, skinny young guy (I’m only 22) in a black and white referee shirt screaming his lungs out, if you wanna come say hi.
Hope this season goes well, last season was a bit brutal for us who work inside the home of your Detroit Pistons.
Good luck this year guys, and don’t forget to tip your friendly neighborhood beer guy! ;)

I mainly lurk. You guys know way more about basketball than I do and I guarantee any one of you would school me on the court.
I’m a fan of all the Detroit teams. I don’t get to go to many games of any of the teams. The last Pistons game I was at was when they played the Atlanta Hawks at their last year in the Silverdome.
I’m 35, born in Detroit, raised in the Brownstown/Gibraltar area, and currently live in Monroe doing apartment maintenance after many years of doing rough carpentry. I’m also a bassist on a temporary hiatus from music at the moment.

With the luck the Bulls have in the lottery...

If the Bulls and Pistons are duking it out for the 8 seed, I really hope we end up missing the playoffs and letting you guys lose to Boston in the first round while we have a chance at John Wall…of course, assuming Vinny Del Negro gets fired on Christmas Eve (can we make it 3/3 with Chicago Head Coach layoffs on Xmas Eve?) you guys may very well find a new passion for the game and end up in the coveted 4/5/6 slots…

I'm Partha

Good to see some familiar faces on here.
Basketball might rank 4th on my list of sports interests, or lower, but I’m still a Pistons fan for life, along with the other major Detroit teams, and Michigan sports. I’m 34 now, so that means I grew up with the Bad Boys, with the Celtic Wars, with the Lakers heartbreak in 88, and then finally, the glory years. Those finals happened when I was 14 and 15, and were touchstones of my youth.

I’m out in Madison, Wisconsin now, have been for the last 6 years (insert ‘geez how time flies’ comment here), so I’ve been watching the Bucks more than any team lately. I’m not really a fan of the Charlie V signing, because he’s a maddeningly inconsistent offensive semi-force, with subpar defensive capacity. But hey, you roll with the team your GM put together, and that’s what fell our way.

That said, I’ll be watching interestedly to see if what seems like a collection of spare parts, along with a new coach, might eventually gel into something that can win a few games.

It’s unfortunate that the Pistons are coming to Milwaukee on Halloween, and I’m gonna be far too gone to make the drive to Milwaukee. Got February 9th on the calendar already…

Halllo my name is...The Boourns...

I was James B. on vintage DBB. Grew up just outside of Detroit in “THE SNOBBBBY CITY OF GROSSSSSSE POINTE” (think Mason’s intro for Tayshaun…in the gritty city of Compton) and have since moved to the NBA’s “Elephant Graveyard” also known as Seattle.

Despite having no local NBA team to spend exorbitant amounts of money on courtside seats to watch the Pistons play once a year, I still make my way down to Portland and have been sitting courtside the past two years. This year, my roommate and I got to met Blaha on the sidelines before the game and that coupled with the fantastic strip clubs (can you say $6 filet mignon that should be priced at $30+? AND strippers?) and a drunken night to not remember was the only way we could swallow the $380 courtside fee we paid to see them go down by 20 at the end of the 3rd and make it a game before losing a relatively close one in the end. We did get to call Oden and Juwan Howard “Gramps” though when they checked into the game in front of us…totally brought them down a peg or two.

True story. Outside of that I will likely become increasingly unpopular due to my personal opinion that the Pistons will ultimtaely be sold to Steve Ballmer and moved to Seattle becoming the Seattle Super Pistons by 2012 which is the only way I could ever continue to watch the NBA if the Pistons ever moved out of Detroit.

Regarding the Pistons I believe Joe D has jumped the shark, which is an unpopular view on our blog here. lol

I was pleasantly surprised to see the changes to the site when I logged on today, no offense Packey but I prefer Detroit Bad Boys over Motown String Music. Even though MSM accurately sums up the current Pistons roster.

My name is Thom. I grew up in West Michigan (Grand Rapids-area) and am currently attending Denison University in Ohio. I like pretty much anything that’s Michigan sports-related, but the Pistons have always been my favorite.

I’m actually pretty happy for the switch, because it combined the Sports Blog Nation system (which I liked from reading Blogabull semi-regularly), and DBB’s great community. No offense to Packey, of course, I did read Motown String Music from time to time, but it didn’t really have a community like DBB’s. Anyway, I look forward to posting on the new site — hopefully while wearing my newly acquired Stuckey jersey.

Cheers.

Hello all, The name is Mike. I am 20 years of age. I am a huge Pistons fan and a large NBA fan. I currently reside in Novi, MI. I really started being a fan in about the 2003 season and in the 2004-2005 season I can say that I went to or watched every game. Basketball has always been my first love, mainly because the whole politics, strategy and an eye for talent has come just naturally. (would have taken Chris Bosh over Darko in the draft that day) I like to think I am a realist when it comes to most things but I am definitely over confident about the Pistons in a lot of ways though.

I love talking about the Pistons and basketball in general too. If you have a question about anything, feel free to ask.
