Pistons open the season in Memphis
The ball is about to tip on Fox Sports -- although if you're out-of-state, you're in luck, because NBA League Pass for both your TV and computer is available as a free trial this week.
The youth movement will be put on pause this game -- 35-year-old Ben Wallace will be in the starting lineup, while rookies Austin Daye and Jonas Jerebko are serving their one-game suspensions. The Grizzlies, meanwhile, will be without DBB favorite Allen Iverson, who's nursing a hamstring injury. Sad, I know.
That's all for now -- the game's about to start, so join your fellow fans in the comments.

brgulker, I will now fight you to the death. We don’t do that “FIRST!” shit around here.
ALSO, WTF!? We go from 3-6 Mafia to Teenage Wasteland by The Who.
TRADE THE MEMPHIS MUSIC GUY NOW!

DEEEEEETROIT BAAAAASKETBAAAALLLLLLLLLLL! No Mason, so I figure I’d try to fill the gigantic shoes.
And TAY doing something. This season has promise.

J Dre, I like you. Ridiculous overreacting optimism is not a thing we’re used to seeing around here. Just don’t go off the deep end when the boo-hoos come out.

Anyone else this is DaJuan Summers only real chance this season? After tonight, Jerebko and Daye will be back, and Summers goes back to the end of the bench with Chuckles… but tonight if Summers comes in and plays well like he hasn’t all preseason, he’ll almost automatically have an edge on the other two rooks.

Casey, when Amir averages 16 and 7 in something other than the D-League, let me know ;)

Villanueva cannot be the new Amir until Mike shows up, says how he knows his high school coach, then demands that we TRADE VILLANUEVA NOW!

Just talking about the role of “foul machine.” And there’s the first look of disbelief from Tayshaun for the season. I’ve been missing that.

Zach Randolph makes me laugh. He’s totally that guy at the gym who makes 1 prayer out of 10 and then acts all serious about it, like, “Yeah, I got that. All day long baby.”

God, I miss George Blaha, especially when I have to listen to these stupid, inept Grizzlies announcers on League Pass. Apparently one tipped rebound justifies them taking DeMarre Carrol over Dejuan Blair (6 pts/6 boards/6 mins played). IF you don’t live in MI, then it doesn’t apply to you.
But don’t take my word for it: http://leaguepasssupport.nba.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=7801&task=search&searchFor=blackout&x=21&y=8

@br:
I contacted customer support for League Pass today. If you live in MI, then FSD is available to you via cable or sattelite. Hence, blackout rules apply, and MI residents can’t view Pistons games on League Pass
It’s kind of a bitch of a workaround but… you might be able to get the broadband version by using ip shielding software which can mask your ip and show you as residing somewhere other than MI. Not sure if it will work but it may be worth a try. I had to do that to watch online tv in Canada since our lovely Canadian law prohibited us from watching certain U.S. content online.

So true, Gogol. So true.
Over the last few years there have been a tonne of really intelligent and articulate debates on what makes a good defender. Ben Wallace is pretty much ending those debates all over again by reminding us how naturally gifted he is as a defender. It helps that he’s a machine, but his timing and instincts are just unreal. And he’s, what, 35 now? I wish he never left.

As impressive as Gordon has been tonight, I must say Kwame has looked almost as good. He epic failed on one of his drives, but he was extremely active on the boards. Even though the box score doesn’t show it, I think he definitely had a big impact on a lot of the offensive rebounds.

Has anyone else watched the YouTube videos of Kaman and friends’ hijinx at his house in Michigan over the Fourth of July? I want him on this team BAAAAD. He’s straight middle-of-the-mitten hick, and I love it. Anyone who buys non-working cars for the sole purpose of shooting them with military grade automatic weapons with their friends sounds like a good pickup to me.
Of special note is the fireworks video— at one point, they tie together 15 or so mortars laying loose on the ground. They then proceed to light said mortars. What ensues is straight out of a Michael Bay film. I am all for a Tay/Kaman swap.

Shaq was a whopping -25 in 25 minutes. Cleveland got killed by the high pick and roll last year and their response was to go out and get Shaq. Ridiculous. They have no chance of beating Orlando or a healthy Boston in a 7 game series.

I know they only played Sacramento, but look at the numbers of OKC’s 3 young players:
Westbrook 14 pts, 13 Ast, 7 rbs
Durant 25 pts, 11 rbs
Green 25 pts, 8 Rbs, 3 BS
That is pretty sick. They have some potential this year if other players can perform.

Not really a whole lot to be upset about tonight. CV didn’t contribute much, but he looked good defensively in the second half. However, he needs to grab a lot more than one board while he’s in the game, which led to a big difference in rebounding.. The team looked pretty good defensively after letting the Grizz shoot over 50% in the first quarter.
The biggest thing was the effort. This team really fought and didn’t take many possessions off. I think it’s why we were able to get such an easy win, unlike last year’s team. And we also did a good job putting our boot to their throat in the 4th. So many games were lost by terrible 4th quarter execution.

Three – Charlie V. = Basketball Brendan Frasier from Bedazzled (With a shaved head). And It boggles my mind watching that dude play! Seems like he should just be standing under the net jumping up and down and muttering to himself.
Four – I need to meet Chris Kaman!

I get the feeling watching CV that he’s just pressing a little bit. He got the first big contract of his career and he wants to prove he’s worth it— i.e. probably putting a little too much pressure on himself. The blocked shots were great though. Pudgy as he may be, dude’s got serious hops and appears to have decent timing too. Missing out on a large chunk of the preseason didn’t help much either, but I think once his jumper’s start falling, we’ll see a much more rounded effort from the Hairless Wonder.
My one (minor) beef with the game tonight— why does Wilcox only play 6 minutes? Especially with the game basically in hand for the entire 4th quarter. In the very little time he played he immediately picked up a couple boards, made a nice interior pass, and finished a very pretty alley-oop layup. Plus I think he looks great with his high white socks— and I mean that in a totally non-scntfc way.
