Now What do you say about CV31

For the past 5 weeks ive heard that cv31 wasnt worthy of being a piston that he couldnt shoot couldnt rebound and was a poor choice for joe dumars to pick up. I have even heard that big baby and david lee was even a better choice. The season has just began and for cv31 like i said before was injured for all of preason and needed some time. But from what i have seen so far. seems like you guys that seem to know so much about players and the way they fit with a team dont seem to know much. good thing your not a gm or head coach huh?

He’s had… what? 1 good game so far? Maybe a really good second half of a game two or three games ago? If he becomes the player we got him to be, great. But, for now, I am reserving judgement. We got him to be an all star shooter. Anyone can put up 30. One of the worst scorers in franchise history, Ben, managed to put up 30 once.

But, like I said, let’s give it time. I think he could be what we got him to be, but, for now, let’s just wait and see what happens with him.

And, not to put CV down or anything, but it was Charlotte he did this against. He spent the night being guarded by one of the worst front courts in the league. Again, 30 points is 30 points. He was the leading scorer in the game. But I think it is a bit premature to say he is ready to be who we got him to be. He’s still been a disappointment (relatively) thus far this season.

Charlotte is one of the best defensive teams in the league (they were 4th in defensive efficiency before we played them). You keep saying he’s had 6 crappy/mediocre games and two good ones but that’s not true either. As others have said, he was injured most of the pre-season so he’s still getting in shape and accustomed to a new team.

In his last 4 games he’s putting up 22.5 pts on 64% shooting(!) with just under a block and steal, 5.25 rbds and only 1.5 TO’s in only 29 minutes. The only thing you want to see him improve upon is the rebounding, and his career rebounding rate is much higher so I expect that to go up over time. His defense has been better then advertised too.

We signed this guy for 5 year 35M deal (not a 55M contract like BennieBlades said). You expect him to be an all star shooter (and I think he can in a year or two), but the vast majority of allstar’s who make under 7M per year are ones who are on their rookie contracts. If he just continues his season averages we’re getting a good deal, but I expect him to be closer to his play lately (but with a lower shooting percentage and more rebounds) which would make him a steal.

One last thing: He just turned 25, so he’s not even in his prime yet. The prime of most big men is 27-29 so we should see his best ball in years 3-5 of his contract. Again, consider we likely haven’t seen his best ball and the fact that he’s “only” being paid 7M per year we are getting great value.

All I Can Say Is.....

…..About time!!!……I like him but when you sign 55 mil dollar contract you need to do this everynight.

whatever

How can you say that he is a disappointment Relatively thus far.. (do tell) if i can recall he has done what he said he needed to do. Step up in clutch situations granted the first two games was like a preaseaon game for him because he hadnt played in the preseason. And we got CV for exactly what he is doing now. scoring. Just like we got Ben Wallace for exactly what he is doing now being a defender. He can never Score the rest of the season for all i care aslong as he get 3 block 10 rebounds and 3 steals. that all leads to potential points. that UMM CV can make. go figure.

CV31 is averaging 11.3 points in the 6 games he played bad compared to the 29 points per game in the 2 games he played well. How can you be happy with inconsistency like that?

He’s getting 3 trips to the line every night, not exactly something you want from a scoring forward. You WANT a scoring forward to draw loads of fouls. But he has, thus far, had more fouls on himself than free throws.

He is averaging nearly 60% from the field (if you don’t count his two sub-30% games), which is pretty good. 32% from outside the arc isn’t that bad either.

To me, that’s disappointing. We got him to replace Sheed as our go-to scoring option outside of the guard spot. He was supposed to be part of a scoring trifecta with Rip and Gordon that would help us put up enormous numbers (a la Phoenix style with Nash, Richardson, and Stoudemire) but he hasn’t done this except for two games. I think he did look really impressive in those two good games he had. I just think that we need to wait to make any final conclusions about him. Thus far, he hasn’t lived up to expectations. Hopefully that will change, however.

Lets look a lil deeper

actually CV31 is averaging 16 points a game so far in the 6 games they played and wallace hadnt did that in the past 3 years. wallace has been known for fouling and oh lets see getting techs. and not playing a inch of defense he didnt get more then 10 rebounds a game. so at the current rate he is going i think he is doing better then wallace has in his last 3 years. Like i said before 3 out of the six games he played was a getting to know my team preseason for him because he didnt get a chance to play in all the preseason games. so if his stats are slowly on the rise after the first 3 games that must mean something. I dont see that as a disapointing start. go check out wallace stats and then compare the two and the see which one is more disapointing. i think CV31 will be good and it is changing game after game

Why would I be comparing him to Sheed? Sheed has been disinterested in playing for us for at least two years. Not to mention that fact that Sheed is TEN years older. Villanueva needs to be the Sheed we almost repeated with.

And saying he is averaging 16 points right now is a farce. He’s played 8 games. He had 2 really good games, I won’t deny that. But he had 6 crappy-mediocre ones. His average, like I said, is 11.3 ppg in those 6 bad games. 6 bad games far outweigh 2 good games.

And I agree, he needed time to get used to the system and everything. But, it doesn’t matter to the point I am making: He has not been the guy we thought he would be so far. 2 good games, 6 bad ones. That is what he has given us. It doesn’t matter if these are his first 8 games with the team, he has still given us 75% crappy games (compared to what we expected from him).

And, again, I think it is too soon to say he is in form or not. I fully expect him to become that guy. Thus far, however, he has not been as good as we need him to be.

We Both win

Ok we both win but you did say we got him to be our replacement to Sheed which he will be. But like i said the crappy games he had he didnt have a preseason either so why cant you and most critics consider that as his preseason and say that over the last 8 games he has improved in each and every game he has played in. Now stuckey on the other had. i think he is good almost like a young jason kidd without the assist, he needs to learn to lead and not follow to get the guys together, Once they start playing real teams i dont see them winning against these guys easy wins. easy like 2006/07 easy wins.

HE LOOKED GOOD AGAINST WASHINGTON

You have to judge a guy on the whole season.

CV31

I’ll admit that he’s, thus far, been better than I expected him to be. My argument, however, was never that CV31 was a bad player or even mediocre (although I still don’t think he was worth what they’re paying him). My argument was that between him and Gordon they tied up ALL of their cap space and that these two players together were not going to do much from a team standpoint. Both have been better defensively than I expected, but the team is still 5-5 at this point, and the team is probably going to find itself in a bit of a mess once Tay and Rip come back.
