Who can Guard Kobe

Its been going on for months now, that many people are wanting a trade of either Rip or Tay, but i dont think anyone realize that Tay and Rip are maybe the only Two People that are one of the best Defenders of the league top Scores Kobe and Lebron, Lets look at it Rip is about the only player that Kobe says he hate playing because he makes him work so hard running throught screens on the defensive end. He is smaller then kobe but his effort and will to win is amazing and with help from Tay they keep Kobe on his toes. Tay has the wing spand of  a center. And can keep up with Kobe and Lebron The two guys are one of the leagues best defending duo's, what will happen if you decide to let anyone of these guys go. Im sure Daye will not step up and become a Prine overnight or anyone else on the roster. Who would you get if you decide to trade anyone or both of these players. Not anyone that can guard Kobe or Lebron. Bowen, Artest, Josh Howard,Battier, Bell,  Stephen Jackson. are the onl players i know that can keep up with Kobe or Lebron. I dont see Detroit getting anyone of these players. So What is all the fuss about. I think the guys that want a trade are fantasy players and dont really know much about NBA other then scoring points and putting fantasy players on their team. KEY word FANTASY.

Not disagreeing, but Tayshaun pretty much stepped up and became a Prince overnight, if you remember correctly. Just saying.

And I think we will have to trade one of them out of necessity. We need a good, young big man. If we can’t get one, we are screwed down the line. Prince and Rip are our only real assets in a trade.

If you just became

A Piston fan you would say that its silly to keep players for that reason. but if you can check back during the chuck daily day and know that he made it a point to keep his starting 5 and almost his whole bench why because they played great defense. and joe d came from that he is the same type of person he is a bad boy. And in order to keep up with the rest of the league and win championships you must play defense and defense win championships in the nba. not since the lakers of 87-88 has a run and gun team fast team won a ring. so who do you get for rip that is better at defense and has the engery and mid range jumper that he does

Ok

Ok your right. One question thouhgh would you have traded Barry Sanders or Cecil Fielder? For a expering contract. My point is unless you know the history of the 2000’s pistons you wouldnt just trade a player that has been there for you day in and out that the lakers and cav’s and celtics plan around thats the teams to beat. Unless your gonna bring in a player that can step in their shoes i wouldnt be so excited to trade them. And i dont see anyone that is on the trade market that is worth getting other then Bruce Bowen but what do we gain.?

I'll make my point better.

The Lions had one Barry Sanders. If you have one really good player than you don’t trade him.

Now to basketball.

First I typo’d…I meant Rip is the expendable one.

second, rip is expendable because of a developing Rodney Stuckey. By my observations Stuckey is developing into quite the defender. Where a Rip-type player can create some of his defense by his offense, Stuckey not only has the ability to keep defenders on their toes, he has the size and strength to guard, say, Kobe. Who has decided to make a posting game more important to his scoring.

Is Rip’s skill set nice to have? Yes. Is it 100% necessary for this team? No.

What

Stuckey cant and wont be able to keep kobe at bay. last year they tried that and had to put Affalo on him which he did a way better job then Stuckey while rip was out. You have to play the devil advocate before you say trade rip or tay. Packey made a good point and wait till the end of you year to try to make a trade on these guys. Which Wilcox and Atkins have expering contracts.

That was last year...

I’m basing my observations off of what I’ve seen this year.

Me Too

AAron Affalo was put on Kobe Last year and he did great they tried Stuckey on him and he sucked but they play tuesday. we shall see. Stuckey can keep up wit any Point guard on defense but not Kobe or Lebron. I dont think Joe D will Trade this year. One Main reason is because Rip and Tay Both Missed a month so far. It will be hard to shop them being out for a month that seems like a long time to heal.

yeah...

I’m not trying to say trade Rip just to trade him. They need to get a piece they need for him. I really don’t think a trade is going to happen because of Joe D not wanting to make another mistake like last year and because the injury might have hurt his value. However if a trade does happen, Rip is more likely to go.

Your Right

I hope it doesnt but Rip will be more likely to go. But Joe D is a smart GM unless someone is out looking for RIP for a nice piece i dont see it. AI was getting shopped last year because he just didnt fit in Denver it was a Risk but it was a need to do trade in order to move forward. I dont see any teams looking to move a star this year. That has a expering contract.

One problem with all this....

Who’s going to want Rip? He is a player that seems to be losing and a step and that will likely be accelerated rapidly in the coming the years. Plus, he has a pretty big contract that most teams in the league likely would not want to take on. Rip is going to be making well more than his worth come a year or 2 from now.

Richard Hamilton is...

a 31 year old basketball player known for being an accurate shooter with decent 3 point range and who (as we’ve discussed) is a nemesis of Kobe Bryant. He’s in the second year of a 3 year contract extension. On top of all this, he is probably the best conditioned player in the whole league.

He may be nearing the end of his prime but his skill’s on both the offensive and defensive end are worth having. Paying an all star who owns a championship ring some money is probably something that some team out there doesn’t care about.

Not keeping them.

to guard just 2 guys in the league but because they are great defenders and the top two players in the league that umm plays on the top two teams that everyone try to beat detroit happen to have two guys that do really well against them is one reason why i think joe d wont make a trade until the end of the season or maybe next season, its just a variable why he wont trade either. Which everyone is seeking. And ya your right Prince didnt become Prince until he blocked Reggie Miller’s ball. We do need a young big man but who? What young Big man cant we trade for. Real Big man not a 6"8 big man we got 15 of those already. But a Tyson Chandler type Big man.

No one can guard Kobe

But hope to contain him. Plus, it’s a little more difficult to just guard Kobe. Putting Gasol and Bynum on the block frees Kobe up, plus Kobe now uses the post to his advantage which perimeter players are not used to guarding.
