I can see a few big men we can target
1: Emeka Okafor
I think he's the easiest to get without trading our best players because of their money problems. We can give them Kwame and Maxiell, and a draft pick. Kwame's contract expires next season so they'll have 4 million of cap relieve. Kwame can be their starting center, Songaila can be their backup center, Maxiell is their backup PF. They can drop Hilton Armstrong's contract next season (2.6mil). For us, we'll have a better rebounding and defensive PF/C to pair up with Ben Wallace (which I'm scare that he's eventually going to wear out someday).
If we can pull that off, we can still have Rip or Tayshaun on the table.............
Last night in NBA Coast-to-Coast, I saw a question about should the Pistons trade either one of those cornerstones. They mentioned a Carlos Boozer-Rip Hamitlon swap would be perfect for both teams. Rip is a great fit for the Jazz and Boozer solves our frontcourt scoring problems.
Again, last night on NBA Coast-to-Coast, Chris Bouchsard (or something like that) said the perfect case for the Cavs would be getting Jamison, but who are they willing to trade that can lure the Wizs to give Jamison? We have Tayshaun Prince, I can see a Prince + Maxiell for Jamison (or Caron Butler) + Mike James, two quality players (us) for one (James, no offense, isn't really doing much this season), a win for both teams.
Basically:

Anymore suggestions?

For the right contract, haywood is my favorite 2010 MLE prospect.

Kaman and Marc Gasol
I would target these guys personally…not necessarily above Okafor but definitely above Boozer who will likely leave at the end of the season anyways. I don’t like Jamison unless we’ve already given up on Charlie V. considering they’re both Power Forwards.
I’m relatively intrigured by Haywood….I would give up Maxiell and a conditional first round draft pick for 2010 draft (say as long as it wasn’t a top 3 pick). This would work for Memphis as they could open up space for Thabeet and potentially Haddadi as well while keeping Randolph in the starting mix. They get an additional first round draft pick this year assuming we don’t get top 3 and get an unconditional next year which would allow them to continue to build their team with young talent. Maxiell would get more of an opportunity to play at PF in Memphis where they have multiple 7 footers and playing an undersized power forward alongside one of them is not as much of a concern.
Jonas Jerebko once killed a charging female rhinoceros in heat protecting its young with nothing more than a hook shot.
i want gasol!
i was watching memphis/dc last night and the announcer said that memphis had 4 7 footers on their team, i was just thinking “how can we pry away gasol from them?” i think the only way would be through a sign and trade at the end of the year since i think gasol is still on his rookie contract. any thoughts?
Thats where I feel like a future first rounder would come into play. It’s value without salary and unless we want to give up one of our young talents (Daye, Jerebko, Summers), we’d have to either take on more than just Gasol or offer value through draft picks.
Jonas Jerebko once killed a charging female rhinoceros in heat protecting its young with nothing more than a hook shot.
Unfortunately, even Memphis knows the value of a top-10 center who is being paid less than 4m/year. The only offer from us that Memphis would even listen to for Marc Gasol would have to include Stuckey and at least one more prospect or pick (and it would almost definitely take more than that to get them to bite). Good centers being paid less than Kwame Brown are almost impossible to trade for.
Kaman is intriguing, but also very risky. Even if we managed to get him for just Tay and spare parts, we’d be completely locked into an expensive core of: Gordon/Rip/CV/Max/Kaman.
Plus, after the likely extensions of Stuck and MFWB we’ll be right up against the luxury tax without room to make any more moves. Is Stuck/Gordon/Rip/CV/Kaman/JJ/Daye/Max a legit, contending rotation? If it’s not, then too bad, because we wouldn’t be able to change course for about 2 years.
That's why I like the Boozer trade
we can get him and see how it works out. if it doesn’t, he’s gonna be a free agent next season. I like the Okafor trade cause it really helps our rebounding and defense, it helps NO dump about 7 mil of contract. Jamison trade was just a thought. Kaman, I don’t really like him cause he’s sort of injury prone.

really, i love stuckey but i would give him (plus a prospect) up in a heartbeat for marc gasol if that was the offer, unfortunately gabe you are probably right and not even memphis would let another gasol go for such a paltry offering.
i dont even know if we would have anything that we can leverage into a great center when i think about it. at least not something that a lot of other teams dont also have. maybe this 8 game losing streak plus a bleak winter landscape is making me feel more negative than i normally would, but with big men being such a valued commodity around the league, do you think tayshaun or rip will be enough to land one?
and gabe, regarding trading for a center, i would say that a good center is just hard to trade for no matter what he is making.
What about trying to pry Roy Hibbert from Indiana? We could probably do it without trading away Rip or Tay if we got lucky.

Randolph is probably still unhappy in golden state, he could really open up the lane for our guys.
I like Marcus Camby….. yep.
I second (fourth?)the Haywood thing though if that’s doable. There’s no way Jamison and Arenas would split up though. That’s the reason Arenas stayed with the wiz.
I’d also like to see Haddadi or whomever else the grizz have hidden on their bench. Especially since Gey is injured maybe we could make a minor trade like summers for haddadi or something since we won’t see him anyways with everyone healthy.
I think everybody is unhappy in Golden State.
It is probably the most dysfunctional NBA franchise short of the Clippers.
Randolph is coveted by several other teams, including the Cavs- That’s an attractive destination, until LeBron leaves that is.
Gasol
The younger one, Marc(k?). He’s young and a beast. Shout out to MFMP on this one (where has he been?)
He’s better than Okafor already, and he’ll get better. He’ll be far cheaper than Boozer will be, and he’s a C, not a PF. Same for Jamison.
We need a Center, a true Center.
I would like to target Kevin Garnett
