Why Didn't Joe Make a Move For Him?
I've been seeing this question a lot. It's actually starting to get on my nerves a little.
People throw this question out there like making a trade in the NBA is as easy as making a trade on NBA Live.
"Well the ESPN trade machine said it would work, so why didn't he do it?"
The reality is just because no trades happened last summer, or so far this year, doesn't mean Joe hasn't made any trade offers. Or that he's not considering something.
Case in point, David Lee last night. I hear people asking about him a lot amongst my friends and general people I cross from day-to-day. True, the rumors over the summer were that the Knicks were shopping him. I would have loved if Joe could have added him to our roster. But even though the Knicks said they would shop him, do you really think they would just give him away for nothing? He just dropped 30 and 10 on us, you don't let him go for peanuts.
On the flip side, I'm sure Joe isn't going to give away our whole team for him either. Which is probably what Donnie Walsh would have been asking for in a trade involving Lee. Remember, Walsh is not a slacker himself, he put together a 60 win team in Indiana.
Again, trades are hard to pull off, that's why they don't happen more often. They get even harder when you are talking about marquee type players. I'm sure Joe has a few ideas, that doesn't mean any of them will happen. There is still another team that has to be on the same page.

Actually Joe did express an interest in Lee. But NY had the ability to match any offer. and Joe didn’t want to tie the money up and lose poss. CV and/or BG. There is no way he could have made an offer and not lost one or both of them.
Lets say he made that offer. If walsh is a chess player, then he could have held out on matching untill the last day thus Detroit would lose all three players.
Be happy with what we have. I have been a Lee cheerleader all summer. Cv and BG were our only sure shots, and contrary to how things have looked thus far. they are worth the Money. It would be nice to make a run at Lee this summer though.
Exactly....
….No team was going to get him…..NY wasnt going to let him leave.

Uhhhh really? Donnie Walsh has been doing nothing but cleaning his books to prepare for a potential Bosh/Wade/Lebron/Amare signing. I think if Joe D had really wanted Lee, he could have made an offer that Walsh would not have been willing to match as it would have been high enough to jeopardize signing the superstar the following year.
But we would not have gotten Lee for CV dollars…we would have had to overpay for him and that is something that Joe D doesn’t do very often.
Jonas Jerebko once killed a charging female rhinoceros in heat protecting its young with nothing more than a hook shot.
there was no team out there willing to overpay for him, Which is why he is still in New York. It could not have been done w/out crippling ones own franchise. Walsh knew what he was doing. Keeping Lee for the cheapest price possible. And he will most likely do it again this year. it is very unlikely that Lee will just walk away from NY.
Formerly known as SCNTFC!
Especially if he does land LBJ or DWade (or both, as DWade has eluded that the two do talk and would be willing to take a pay cut to play together).
Why would Lee walk in that scenario? He gets to play with arguably two of the top 5 players in the league right now. I’m willing to bet he’d take less pay to stick around for that.
the thought of lebron and wade on a team together makes me sick.
that game would take 4 hours to play with a foul call on every single offensive possession for whatever team they were on.
Good thing it'll never happen.
New York would have to miraculously deal both Curry and Jefferies for expiring contracts.
