Chauncey wants No. 1
Scoop Jackson asked each All-Star if they could be any other player in the game, who would it be? "Then came Chauncey Billups' classic and unexpected answer: 'A.I. So I can get my Detroit No. 1 [jersey] back.' " (Hat-tip: DBB reader Prashant)

Dont worry Chaunce, it will be retired before you know it and nobody will have it ever again on our team.

I wish he could still be Chauncey AND have his Detroit no. 1 back…

Seriously, what was with giving AI the #1 jersey in the first place? It made both Joe D and AI look bad when it first happened, and in light of the shitty direction our season took afterward, it’s made them look even worse.
Petty is the word that comes to mind.

I agree, Joel. It was like rubbing salt in the wound for CB and all the fans.
- should have Billups name on and be flying from the rafters.

That’s difficult to read. Almost as tough as the article about how Chauncey, Rip, and Tay were laughing, crying, etc. in a hotel room after they heard the news. How often is it that an athlete has as much loyalty to a team as we have to him?
I was excited about the trade when we first made it. Paving the way for Stuckey, reloading on the fly, etc. seemed like a great idea. But I got sucked into grass is greener thinking (not to mention that AI is far worse than I thought).
Chauncey was our guy. And I just don’t enjoy watching the games as much with him gone. It was one thing when Ben left after being a malcontent for his last season. All Billups did was go to charity events, try his hardest, and flash that awesome grin he gets when he’s going to the line to ice a game (remember the first Boston game last year when Tony Allen fouled him at the end of regulation? That’s the smile I’m talking about. As an aside, I was actually at that game. Watching him nail his free throws while the moronic Celtics fans around me whined about the call remains one of my favorite Pistons memories.)
Suffice it to say I will be cheering for the Nuggets every step of the way this summer.

What’s wrong with me that I thought it said PETEY instead of PETTY?

Kevin Garnett: “Man, I’m good with me. I good with me.”
Ray Allen: “I like myself. I really love who I am.”
Haha yeak, that pretty much sums up the whole Boston Celtic attitude right there…

When you’re defending champs who’ve won 15 of 18, I can’t think of a reason to want to be anyone else…

Re: The #1 Pistons Jersey
If only Chauncey didn’t make so much money, shit woulda been fine.
I think Joe decided to give Iverson #1 as a welcome gesture, not as an affront to Billups.
