Laimbeer to Memphis?
Chris Herrington of the Memphis Flyer wants the Grizzlies to hire Bill Laimbeer as their coach this summer: "One idea among many potential targets: Bill Laimbeer, the former Pistons all-star whose three titles in the WNBA suggests translatable head-coaching experience and whose commanding personality and winning pedigree should get the attention of players and fans alike."

Me too. The Shock or even the Pistons makes more sense. We made him what he is and need to keep that in Michigan.

Regardless it would open up a position for Zeke to take with the Shock. Of course that would mean a lot more lawsuits for sexual harrasment.

It’d be nice to have Bill Laimbeer on a Detroit based basketball team but; I wouldn’t want to hold Bill back from the big stage if we don’t have room for him in the “D”. Its always been the talk that Bill had a mental edge and high appitude for understanding how to win in basketball. Sure love to see him on our bench D-E-T-R-O-I-T bas-ket-ball.

I’d like to see Laimbeer give it a go with the Pistons. He’s no nonsense, and he’s got the rings to back it up.
MCIAFI, on the other hand…well, we all know what that’s about.

:( I’d be happy for Laimbeer if he got that job, but I wish it could come with the Pistons. You never know for sure, but I think there’s a decent/good chance he becomes a very successful NBA coach.

I still don’t understand why Bill wasn’t brought on last summer.

Pop quiz:
Would you rather have Zeke or MCIAFI coaching the Pistons right now?

Dumars has had a couple of opportunities to hire Lam, and he doesn’t. Lam’s business acumen is allegedly not all that, he ran his cardboard business into the ground, but I’m not sure how that translates into being a successful NBA coach.
I’ve always thought he should get a shot at the head coaching job, but maybe Dumars knows better.
Coaching beaverball might be different, and there’s obviously a stigma attached to it, but I have the feeling he’s an outstanding motivator and would be a good fit for the team.

Laimbeer is not an NBA head coach today because he alienated himself to everyone in the business minus the Pistons organization. He had the attitude that he wanted NO friends or relationships outside of the Pistons family. The guy blead Pistons red white and blue no doubt, but he also retired 11 games into the 94 season and that did not sit well with Dumars and Davidson.
Nevertheless Laimbeer is still a proud member of the Piston elite. The guy is basketball smart. Sharp as heel actually, but he is as abrasive as they come. Great guy once you get to know him though. But who is going to come knocking on his door??
Bill Laimbeer has the credentials to be an NBA head coach. He was a great player, winner, championship winning guy. But he is also a jerk. A guy that someone is going to have to weigh his pro’s and cons, and who may not want the risk.
Bill is not the ass kisser like a hot headed Scott skiles is. And therefore its going to be tough outside of Detroit. One day, he probably will be with an NBA team, either on the bench as a ass or head coach, or in the front office.
One thing is for sure, as far as basketball minds, Laimbeer and Dumars are as smart as they come. One is the nice guy, who exudes class and friendliness. The other, the smirky, cocky and arrogant genius who like to fish and hunt. And probably would rather be doing both if he did not need the money.
