So... Ray Allen's elbow happened

I've been a Pistons' fan for as long as I can remember.  I've been there since Dennis Rodman/Kevin McHale, Larry Bird/Bill Laimbeer, Isiah/Ainge, Pippen/Rodman, etc.  I've seen skirmishes and how they've evolved over the years (the NBA has become soft).

In recent years, Rasheed Wallace has become the butt of all NBA fan jokes for teams that have not been half as successful as the Pistons.  In recent years, the NBA has cut down on physical play and asked it's officials to practice a "zero tolerance" policy on technical fouls.  In recent years, you can look at any of the 3 referees' heads after a foul call and see at least 1 of them looking at Rasheed for a reaction.  Then today, with Boston getting a mudhole stomped in them... Ray Allen pulls a move that no respecting man should ever do.  He elbows another man in the crotch.

Whether Varejao deserved it or not, a real man never pulls that move on another man.  As Pistons' fans we have seen the battles that Varejao has had with Wallace and McDyess.  But also as Pistons' fans we have seen the same battles before with Rodman and Horace Grant, or Rodman and virtually any other team's power forwards.  Varejao is not especially gifted at basketball, he's always in the right place whether by choice or not.

Celtics fans cry about how little respect their team gets, but from what I saw, Ray Allen's actions didn't even draw a technical free throw let alone an ejection.  KG has taunted players (below his pay grade and skill level I might add) without any fine, suspension, or technical being thrown his way as well.  Some Celtics fans have even said Jason Maxiell deserved the headlock throwdown he received from Kendrick Perkins earlier in the season.

Would Richard Hamilton have been ejected for the elbow to Varejao?  Would Rasheed Wallace have received technicals for each time he taunted an opposing player?  I know the answer, do you?

Poll
Would Richard Hamilton been ejected and would Rasheed Wallace have received technicals for taunting like KG has done?
Rip would've been ejected and Rasheed would have more technicals than he does for taunting.

Rip wouldn't have been ejected but Rasheed? Yeah, more techs.

Rip would've been ejected but Rasheed? No additional techs for him.

Rip wouldn't have been ejected, Rasheed wouldn't have gotten any technicals. I am a Celtics' fan and I approve this message.

I don't know why

But the Refs have always had their favorites. It’s a given. Although Referees are to be impartial, the system seems as if some players with bad reps get ‘zero tolerance’ than lets say, guys with only one offense. I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that Rip would have been ejected/ ’Sheed been given more techs because of who they play for and their past records. Maybe not so much Rip, but def. ’Sheed.

It's simple

When teams in big markets (Boston, L.A., New York, Chicago) are successful, the league is more profitable. You can be sure David Stern was praying to whatever God he believes in last year during the playoffs that a Boston-L.A. final would occur.

I’m not accusing of the NBA being fixed (Tim Donaghy references aside…) but if the officials ever get a chance to turn a blind eye to some of the things the Celtics (especially the Big 3) do, I’m sure they’re encouraged to do it.

Also, Detroit Bad Boys recently had a post about how LeBron is favored by officials in the league.

I would agree to an extent...

I don’t think that Sheed is an fair comparison. He has been getting T’ed up his entire career, so naturally refs are going to be looking for a reaction from him. I haven’t seen nearly as many games of Ray Allen’s but I’m going to guess he doesn’t have this type of behavior as often as Sheed. As for the Rip comparison, I think you have a more than valid point.

Thanks for posting, Boney.

Yes, but

Garnett has been talking and taunting like he’s known for his entire career too, and he’s always been treated better than Sheed by officials.

Good point

I guess Garnett just has a better rapport with the refs. Sheed taunts, but he also gets on the refs’ cases constantly.

but does Rasheed taunt?

Is there a difference between arguing a foul call and barking at an opposing player?

I think you could’ve elevated this post to the front page BPackey ;)

The NBA is a Joke

Don’t get me wrong i am a Diehard Pistons fan but come on the NBA is the biggest Joke ever. You can’t tell me David Stern hasn’t gone up to his Refs and said protect my “Poster Boys”. Lets face it everyone hates Detroit because we don’t have a legitimate Superstar, i mean look at the whole AI thing as soon as we got him everyone was saying how Detroit was going to blow away everyone just cause of that addition but it ended up failing tragically just as us true Detroit Pistons fans predicted

Lebron,D-Wade,KG and Kobe

and their teams will always get the call no matter what. Varajoke flops he gets the call,Pau Gasol’s shot doesn’t look right and he has a weird looking face must have been a foul,Big Baby Davis is to fat to be in the NBA but the Celtics can’t lose so let’s stick him on the FT Line. I mean its a joke Andrew Bynum isn’t the next Shaq he has Kobe with him Daniel “Boobie” Gibson sucks but its the golden boys team so lets handcuff the opposing PG,Rajon Rando and KP are so overrated, and don’t even get me started on Sasha Vujibitch

You know, I'm getting pretty damn tired of this..

When Perkins threw Maxiel down I came out of my damn chair. Someone needs to take it to their ass, isnt this the 2nd time Verajo (however its spelled) has been mugged by the celtics? When is it enough, and you beat the shit out of these guys. It comes down to safety, if you knock Perkins/Garnett/Allen on their ass they will have to decide “do I really want to cheap shot this guy?” Because if they do they Know there will be a fight. And make you think twice. I know its a different time and era, but if your clearly defending yourself im sure the players union has enough pull to soften the fine/suspension.
