Next Season's Roster
Pistons fans, what do you think of this trade: http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=d67geb. And then trading Amir, Kwame, Maxiell for Emaka Okafor. And then signing Carlos Boozer or Paul Millsap (depending if Boozer opts out or not).
So it'd be Stuckey, Rip, G. Wallace, Boozer/Millsap, Okafor.
Bench: Bynum, Afflalo, Herrmann, McDyess.
Good right?
I mean, if we can get Bosh, then great, but I'm not so sure about that....

Without thinking twice
I’d do that trade, but I don’t know if Charlotte would. It might help that Larry Brown is in Charlotte.

I agree
I agree that the Larry Brown factor would probably help.
Either way, I want either G. Wallace/Artest and Millsap/Boozer and Bosh/Okafar.
Not sure if Okafar is available, but the dude’s averaged a double-double his whole career. All the guys that are being mentioned, like Bosh, Amare, Boozer, Lee, none of them are centers, which is what we desperately need.

You had me...
until you said Artest. NO WAY he ever plays in Detroit. Interesting idea, but NO WAY

I know that everyone would initially hate this because of what happened earlier, but I really think he plays a Piston style of basketball. He is one of the best defenders in the league and also one of the hardest players. I really believe that after a couple home games with him in uniform the town would warm to him.

I disagree
Artest plays Piston basketball, but Joe D would never bring Artest to Detroit after what happened.

3 big men for 1?
no way Charlotte does that deal
Toronto is enamored with Tayshaun, I’d trade him and next years #1 for Bosh and then I’d start Kwame next season with Max as the first big off the bench and another center who we could acquire in the offseason…
no way charlotte does the Kwame deal, and besides… we’re giving up all of our front court depth (even though they don’t play, but god forbid there’s an injury) for 1 guy? no way

Charlotte
I agree that they may not do that deal specifically, but I think Detroit could pry Okafar away from them someway. Just look at Charlotte’s cap situation: http://hoopshype.com/salaries/charlotte.htm. It
s terrible. Almost everyone there is overpaid, plus they will have to decide what to do w/ Felton this summer.
I’m only for Okafar if we can’t get Bosh first. But Detroit needs a starting center. Ever since Ben left….
My ideal/slightly realistic lineup next season:
Stuck / Bynum
Rip / AA
Artest / Herrmann?
Bosh / Maxiell
Kwame / McDyess

Charlotee wouldn't do the deal
The only motivation I can see, is to cut spending but Maxiell’s contract runs past the 2010 season. Other than that, the deal is garbage for one of the brightest young Cs in the game. You don’t trade a defensive powerhouse for spare parts

Artest
True, Artest was involved in a little scuffle at the Palace a few years ago. But the Pistons need someone who can at least somewhat slow down LeBron and Pierce. Tayshaun just can’t do it. I know he’s somewhat hurt, but come one, getting outscored 67-6 by LeBron?!
Artest, while somewhat of a nutcase, would be a good pickup I believe. He’s still only 29, he’s big enough to bother LeBron, can play 3 positions, is a very physical defender (think a younger Ben). Plus he’d be cheap, like $7-8 million a year.

Charlottee
look…
Charlotte can match any offer made to Felton by making a qualifying offer… unless Memphis makes him a big offer (which would be confusing considering how many guards they have).. then I can see Charlotte getting away with signing Felton for the MLE, which is a freaking bargain.
I think them moving Wallace is more realistic than them dealing Okafor who is only 26-27 years old. Wallace isn’t a bad contract when you compare it to Diaw… I could see Felton being traded to another team, and have Diaw be packaged in it to rid themselves of that $9m package..
I’d like to see Detroit get Artest. I don’t know how much value Tay has anymore but… if the reports are correct and Toronto likes Tay, they need to make a deal with Tay and get Bosh… whether it include multiple #1s or not
by Boney on Apr 23, 2009 1:09 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
I agree
Tay+Amir/Maxiell for Bosh? Sounds good to me. Or maybe Rip+Amir for Bosh.
Could Tay play at SG? That’d be interesting. His style is way different from Rip’s….
So I want to see Stuck-Rip-Artest-Bosh-Kwame
Or Stuck-Tay-Artest-Bosh-Kwame
Artest can play the 2, 3, and 4
And Tay can play the 3 and 2(?).
Either way, I really think Joe D needs to get on the phone to acquire Bosh and Artest.

If the Pistons got Artest
I would be absolutely shocked. I’m not knocking him as a player, the dude can ball and play some solid defense, but the “little scuffle” was one of the biggest deals in terms of fights go in sports history. He went into our crowd and punched fans out. For that reason and the attached drama alone, I don’t think we’ll ever see him donning the red, blue, and white.
by Packey on Apr 23, 2009 4:20 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
I know it was than a little scuffle. I was just being sarcastic! haha
Anyways, I know, but Bill Davidson is gone, so who knows what will happen now. And like I said, we need someone to stop LeBron and Pierce, cause they aren’t going anywhere anytime soon.
I mean, come one, those two guys kill Tayshaun.
Tay vs. Pierce: http://www.basketball-reference.com/fc/h2h_finder.cgi?request=1&p1=piercpa01&p2=princta01
Tay vs. Lebron: http://www.basketball-reference.com/fc/h2h_finder.cgi?request=1&p1=jamesle01&p2=princta01
Tay actually does pretty good against Lebron in general, but in this series he’s getting outscored by an average of 30 pts a game. 30 pts. Every game.
If there’s someone else that we can get that could do better than Artest, let me know.
by SteveKays on Apr 23, 2009 5:38 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
I’m not saying Artest wouldn’t be a better defender than Tayshaun. I’m saying because of that fight, I doubt he’ll ever be a Piston. I like the thought, though; it’s definitely interesting.
Thanks for the Tay match up stats. I wasn’t aware Basketball reference did that. How about some match up stats on when Artest plays those guys?
Nice work.

More stats
I think you’re right to some extent about Artest. But from a purely basketball viewpoint….
I don’t know, I’d do it. The fight was almost 5 years ago. But yeah, I get your point.
Artest vs. Pierce: http://www.basketball-reference.com/fc/h2h_finder.cgi?request=1&p1=artesro01&p2=piercpa01
Artest vs. Lebron: http://www.basketball-reference.com/fc/h2h_finder.cgi?request=1&p1=artesro01&p2=jamesle01
These stats are pretty cool, but they should be taken w/ a grain of salt. Like, were the two players always matched up again each other? Stuff like that…
But it seems Artest does better against Pierce, Tayshaun does better against Lebron. But like I said, grain of salt.

Oh no question
Purely basketball and I’d do it in a second. I never questioned that aspect.

Artest has a pretty looking shot while Tayshaun’s makes me nauseous, too.
by Packey on Apr 23, 2009 9:53 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
haha, True about Tay’s shot
But Artest doesn’t have a great shot selection….just 40% this past season.
And he hasn’t been an ironman either, playing in just 69, 57, and 70 the past 3 years.
But he’s as close to Lebron’s dimensions as anyone…and if Toronto wants Tay for Bosh….

I don't know
if Tay could play the 2, but if you traded Rip, you could bring Tay off the bench and start Bynum at the 1 and Stuckey at the 2. Stuckey has the size to play the 2 in the NBA and I think he played there in college (I could be wrong).
