Chris Paul to the Pistons?
A wonderful pipe dream, but Dave Dial at MLIVE keeps us grounded. Interesting read, nonetheless.

Don't do that to me!
The link I clicked on didn’t have the question mark at the end of the title, and I’m pretty sure my heart stopped. What a dream that would be.

You would think
Proffesional newspaper writers would be above such teaser titles as this one. It makes it sound as if it’s a valid rumor, when it most certainly isn’t. I’m sure dumb offers like this happen everyday, it’s just significant that Byron Scott chose to respond. I’m sure teams make ridiculous offers for star players just to see if a team bites. You never know when you find an Al Davis of a GM.

BTW
This is nothing against you Packey, I’m talking about Drew Sharp

you would also think
that the guy “poo pooing” the deal because “you don’t deal stars who are still in their rookie contracts” would know that Paul’s 4 year $63m extension kicks in next season…
I think it’s absurd but I also believe that Dave Dial’s column is completely irrelevant because of the fact that he does not know the status of Paul’s contract

I most certainly
I most certainly do know that Paul’s contract jumps to his extension next season. It’s still his rookie contract(the 5th year), and would be his qualifying year if he hadn’t agreed to an extension.
It(the fact he’s still on his rookie contract) has little to do with the actual point, which is that Chris Paul just turned 24 years old.
How the column is completely irrelevant because you think that he’s not on his rookie contract, even though he is, is confusing. I used the rookie contract as an example referring to the fact that he’s still a young player.
The contract would only come into play if we were talking about trade rules. Right now(until July 8th) Paul’s contract is a Poison Pill contract. After July 8th Paul becomes a BYC player. Neither of which matters in any trade with Detroit, because the Pistons will be under the salary cap.
In any case, I’m interested in knowing why that would make the post irrelevant. Or why you think it does.

Don't take it personal
I understand the BYC, NBA’s CBA, etc… I also realized when I read the column in the freep about Detroit being interested in CP3 that Sharp had no clue what he was talking about. No matter how bad things get in NOOCH (I know they’re no longer NOOCH, obviously) CP3 is not going to be a part of any deal that brings a few spare parts and a bunch of picks from a team who will likely have low first round picks because of the immediate success the Pistons (or any other team) will see from acquiring Paul.
Your post is irrelevant only because writing a reply to a column in which there’s even a rumor started about acquiring Paul is just stupid. Your post isn’t irrelevant because for the most part you squash the rumor, but you didn’t knock down the extension of his contract/rookie contract info.

I didn't
I didn’t take it personal, I was interested in what you were referring to and why the entry would draw such a reaction. Since I only used the ‘rookie contract’ reference to Magic Johnson, and as a comparison to a young franchise player, I wondered what you meant.
In any case, it’s my job to follow rumors and point Piston fans to them, even if I think they are far-fetched. Especially when they come from the MSM.
Have a good day and thanks for the response.

never going to happen
this is so pie-in-the-sky its not funny. they are more likely to trade the entire Hornets franchise than Chris Paul. as a Pistons fan i don’t doubt, its nice to think about. but never going to happen.
