Ben Gordon

This is stupidest move Joe Dumars could make i mean did he not learn his lesson with the last undersized SG we brought in? If you sign him for 11 million you have to trade Hamilton who is are top competitor or else you will have a extremely crowded backcourt, what happens to Bynum and Afflalo? Gordon is going to take their time that is just plain stupid if you ask me. Next you now have to draft that fruitcake Mullens or maybe Austin Daye because you cant draft a PG or else you have more people in that backcourt. Ben Gordon make NO SENSE AT ALL because if you sign him you miss out on everybody in 2010 thats just dumb. no the Pistons should try to Draft Jeff Teague,Terence Williams,Earl,Clark,James Johnson, or Eric Maynor. next Hire Bill Lambieer as an Asst Coach and have him toughen up Amir. i say we have to live through a Season of losing because the Class of 2010 is that good and please don't waste money on guyswho can't win you anything like Boozer,Gordon or Millsap

I understand your points

But it’s not necessarily true. We could sign Ben Gordon and have him be the 6th man as he was in Chicago. Trade Tay and Amir for Bosh then sign Turk. Can’t argue with that starting lineup.

Additionally, signing Boozer, Millsap, or Gordon isn’t the only course of action for the Pistons. A myriad of trades can be executed because we can ignore the ordinary trade restrictions. Salaries don’t have to match and as a result the talent may be lopsided for teams that want to cut costs (like Phoenix, Toronto, and Milwaukee). If we trade Tayshaun for Amare Stoudemire will you be upset?

11 Million Dollars a year

for a 6th man? yes he would be great at 6th man but not at his price. and Tay for Amare would disappoint me but not as much as if we signed one of these top FAs this year. if you could trade Rip for a 1st Rounder i would do that and Draft Terrence Williams and Earl Clark or Jeff Teague and James Johnson but if you did get Amare for Tay i think you could draft a replacement for him (Austin Daye,Terrence Williams) so i wouldn’t be extremely upset just don’t sign any of the top FAs this year

11 million a year for Gordon... that can't be right

That’s just insane….INSANE! I tell you what though, as a Cavs fan, seeing a conference rival sign Ben Gordon for a contract starting at $11 million, I want to weap with joy. Signing Gordon to an expensive, long-term deal will absolutely cripple a team’s finances for years to come….. Dumars is smarter than that…. he HAS to be

Joe Dumars is losing his mind

First he Drafts a Living Toothpick then he wants to sign Ben Gordon and Carlos Boozer to outrageous contracts

A couple of things

I linked to Dave Dial’s post about this signing and within it he seems to think that this wouldn’t be a $11 million per year type deal but an average of the overall contract. This makes sense because assume that first year is $9.5 million then the Pistons still have enough money to court another big time free agent. That’s the only way it would make sense to me because, yes, $11 million per year is just way too much.

In terms of who is better, Rip or Gordon…I would say Rip 9 times out of 10. However, you have to think about the big picture. Rip is 32, if I recall, and Ben Gordon is 26. Gordon is known for his quality shot and pretty good 3-point percentage while Rip is known for running around and hitting mid range jumpers. Rip has developed into a pretty decent passer and rebounder over the past few seasons, but at the age of 26 he was pretty much what Gordon is now and that was: a shooter (without the 3-point shot). I liked Rip more when he was 26 than I do Gordon now, but Gordon is not far away in my book; especially after what I saw from him in this year’s playoffs.

JMW- I’m with you on wanting to wait for the big names in 2010. I just think Joe can’t sit through another 2008-2009 without doing something big, otherwise he should have waited to deal Billups after this season. It’s time for a change and I’m okay with making moves this offseason as long as they are not just for the sake of making them. If he thinks they will improve the team, I’m all for it.

I think you could argue Gordon is a better player now and then

His handles are better than Rips. His shot is better than Rips because his range is better and just as good from midrange. He can penetrate better and rebounds and assists are pretty much just like Miller and Allens. All of them did one thing slightly better than the other it seemed.
Rip rebounds better but over all Gordons just given a bad rap. I actually think in a number of places they can utilize him better including Detroit. Ben has one ofI the best iso percentage wise as far as converting in the league its actually right on par with Kobes. So if they got him actually switching it up and coming off screens that’d make his life and a few others much better.

I think if you put Rip on the Bulls this year whatever age they wouldn’t make the playoffs. Cause Gordon literally won us a ton of games him and Rose had to put the team on their backs. But Gordon was actually the most consistent. I hope he doesn’t go anywhere.

Defense

Ben Gordon) FG%: 0.437 3FG%:0.415 FT%:0.859 PTS:18.5 RPG:3

Richard “Rip” Hamilton) FG%: 0.454 3FG%:0.359 FT%:0.853 PTS:17.9 RPG:3.3

Hamilton is a better Shooter from Mid-Range and Gordon is a better 3pt Shooter, now lets look at who is a better defender? Rip smokes Gordon and we all know this plus Rip is at least 4 inches taller. can we please stop about how much better Gordon is then Rip he isn’t they are the same Offensively and Rip is a lot better Defensively so please please please stop

Gordon is....

a perfect fit for the Pistons. Being a BULLS fan, I hate to see him go, but management screwed him, so why not screw em back? You gotta love what Joe Dumars does as a GM (except AI & Darko) he’s been right on with everything he’s done. You sign Ben Gordon & Hedo. When you trade Rip then you get another quality player in return (prolly a BIG). Now that lineup wouldnt scare anyone this year, but its a reason ALL GM’s hate Dumars….LEBRON JAMES. Lebron has an advisor that he trusts with his life. Quiet as its kept, that advisor made several trips to Motown last year. Why? Because LBJ knows that Dumars will surround him with enough talent to get that ring. Having BG & Turk means you have two tough players that wont fade or shy away in the playoffs (ala mo williams) and can open the flor giving LBJ plenty of room for him to go to work.

2 things

Your parenthetical (except AI & Darko) should be just (Darko) especially since you think the Pistons should sign 2 big free agents this off season. That is never even a possibility without the AI trade. As disappointing as AI was and sad it was to see Billups go, that deal opened up the money that allows us to even talk about signing a couple free agents this summer.

If we sign a free agent this summer, much less two, there is no way we have enough to afford Lebron next summer.

What where the Bad Boys known for?

or the team of Billups,Rip,Tayshaun, and the Wallaces? even after Big Ben left? they have always been known for Defense so please tell me how 2 players who don’t play Defense are a perfect fit for the Pistons? Oh i know why you say this, because if this happened the Bulls (Your Team) would run over the Pistons over and over and over again. ill tell you what makes sense Ron Artest he is a Defensive player and has a tough Attitude to bad he had to punch out some fans. Oh and by the way Lebron HATES Detroit and every TRUE Detroit fan HATES Lebron so i don’t even know why people even think that he would come here

A starting lineup

Of Stuckey, Gordon, Turk, Tayshaun and a big (Let’s say Kaman) is pretty scary to me

???

What? Gordon has had struggles as a Starter throughout his Career. Where the heck is the Defense? Tayshaun and Kaman are going to both be in the hunt for Defensive Player of the Year or you start looking like the Suns of a few years back

It's not perfect

But you can’t deny there’s talent in that lineup

What the pistons need and who they need and what they have gotten in the draft of 09

The pistons need to drafted a small forward behind Tayshun Prince. They have a solid back up for Rodney Stuckey who is better off as a sg. Will Bynum is the break em down guy so he could play the point if given the chance. If they have to get a backup point guard then so be it. Rip is our starter at the sg position and the best at that. Afflo is a sg also or Stuckey could be used as a point guard some. That’s it for the back court. Up front we got the back up for Tay and now the replacement at center is what we need. If QB doesn’t want to come back get Tyson Chandler or somebody else big. We have the other Pf to replace Rasheed Wallace. Don’t break the bank on anyone or trade away Tay, Rip, or Antonio Mcdyess, We have enough pieces until we can find something better. I say go after Chris Bosh or Charlie V of Mil. Give some of the guys major roles and we can be good. Hell, Will Bynum dunked on KG.
