Gordon Signs with the Pistons..

The Detroit Pistons have reached agreement with free-agent guard Ben Gordon(notes) on a five-year contract worth around $55 million, a source with knowledge of the talks told Yahoo! Sports Wednesday evening.

The Pistons are continuing to negotiate with forwardCharlie Villanueva(notes).

July 8 is the first day free agents can sign contracts.

Gordon and Villanueva, who played together for a year at UConn, traveled to Detroit on Wednesday morning to meet with Detroit president Joe Dumars.

Wonder how he will fit

With Rip Hamilton at the 2 already. Maybe shift to the 3 last season when Iverson was with the Pistons?

Gordon's starting contract
A 5-year $55 million dollar contract is what Ben Gordon was reported to be looking for, and the starting salary for that deal would by just under $9.5 million. The Pistons have been reported to have $20 million in cap space, so will still have around $10.5 million to spend on other free agents. If Charlie Villanueva agree to a contract starting at around the $7 million dollar range, Dumars will have a little cap space left over to initiate a salary cap trade or to sign a lower level free agent.

Looking like a switch to a scoring-focused team. Not much rebounding, either.

I find this move intriguing because...

Gordon and Charlie V. seem to fall into the range of moderate to all around bad defenders. And Detroit loves its defense…. Obviously this pick was to boost Detroit’s offense, but as a Warrior fan; I watch first hand the effects of bringing in defense optional players.

Goodluck with this, maybe Gordon will finally find a team to fit in with.
Hamilton should be packing his bags or get ready to ride the bench.

So I guess

this is Joe Dumars saying that Stucket will indeed be the pg of the future, ugh.

Starting lineup as of right now,

Stuckey
Gordon
Tay
Villanueva
Brown

Maybe 44 wins tops. Unless Joe can get a steal in a trade involving Rip, maybe even Tay.

Rip wont come off the bench, thats why he cried last year.

But deservedly so, A.I should never have been granted the honor of wearing a Pistons jersey.

So what happens?

We move Hamilton to Forward and bench Villanueva… or trade Hamilton? And what if we don’t get any good offers?

Ben can still come off the bench

The way I undesstand it from articles I’ve read, Ben signed with the understanding he’d come off the bench. Doesn’t necessarily mean he will, but he won’t be heartbroken f it happens.

Then it that case...

I don’t understand this at all…

Although I still like the Villanueva signing.

This is Horrible

Joe turned Chauncey into Ben Gordon, Gordon who will be coming off the bench. I know its the first day, so I will hold off from calling for the noose. But, wow 2 young big men available with no other real competition to bid against and he didnt make a play for them. I Want David Lee in a Pistons UNI.

There is plenty of time to flip RIP, and Tay I guess. But in the past week Joe has added 4 SF/PF hybrids. AND a SG when we have 2 quality starting SG’s. He has to have some moves in order.

Gordon & CV

are good moves. Gordon actually came off the bench a lot in Chicago, so he could be a great compliment to Rip. They could go back and forth….keeping each other rested and ready.

Agreed

That 1 2 punch of Gordon and Rip is pretty enticing, Rip comes off the floor and Gordon is in his place, it won’t give teams a rest.
