Afflalo to Denver?

Link via MLive

The report discusses a possible trade to Denver. Denver has a trade exception which allows them to take in Afflalo's contract without taking anything in return. This could free up a resulting 3.6million in cap, allowing Detroit to sign a big man free agent. If this trade were to come to fruition, a big man like Glen "Big Baby" Davis, Zaza Pachulia, or Brandon Bass. Or possibly a darkhorse like Lamar Odom or Marvin Williams (possible small forward to take Tayshaun's place?) can be signed.

Davis appears to be the likeliest choice, and while I don't dispute the need for a big man, I've always liked Afflalo's game, he's a classic hustle player that'll play great defense and hit open shots, like a Bruce Bowen or Shane Battier. It's a shame we'll lose him, but on a skill standpoint, he's a step below Glen Davis, and he's in a position that's stacked with talented players with Stuckey, Gordon, Hamilton, and Washington all figuring to get minutes at the 2 and Tayshaun, Day, Summers, Jerebko, and Hamilton slotted for minutes at the 3.

Davis, a 6'9 290 lb mound of rebound, had a bit of a breakout season last year for the Celts. He put up a solid 7 pts and 4 boards in 21 minutes of playing time. He displays solid hands in the post (a bit of a breakaway from Kwame's stone hands). And has a knack for pulling down offensive boards. He moves well for a man his size, and is a fullback in the post. He's shown the ability to knock down a jumper from 15 ft, which is valuable because his size would otherwise create spacing issues for his teammates.  He seems to be destined to a life on the bench however as his per 36 stats aren't anything special (12 pts 6.6 boards), and he shot a below average percentage for a big man (44.2%). He won't be remembered as a defensive stopper. He doesn't block (0.3) and he fouls too much (3.0 a game). But Glen Davis can still bring a nice change of pace, he can also do this and this. and anybody that can knock the fuck out of Anderson Varajao is O.K in my book. If his knees don't give him issue, I wouldn't mind bringing in Glen Davis. As long as he doesn't cry on the sideline

I would prefer the Pistons use other means to get a backup bigman

No Afflalo's defense outweighs the positional advantage of Big Baby

The concern for me...

…is acquiring Big Baby for any significant contract. I don’t have any real issues with his game, I would simply like to see him come on the cheap…which I doubt he will. To me you already have a more effective big man on the bench in Jason Maxiell.

Joey D is either very smart or losing his touch

I know he made the move to bring over Ben Wallace but I really wonder what he is up too.

Who Knows....

…..But I believe in every move that Joe D Makes…..I think you will stil see a trade…..or a they will sign a guy like Chris Wilcox on the cheap instead of Big Baby

i personally

believe that AA is a LEGIT player. i see why detroit did this. but this is a huge risk. because what if they dont get anything good out of this? they lost a very young PG thats a baller. i would have loved to see him in LAL jersey. but thats ok. hopefully lakers can sign a PG soon.

detroit has been doin well tho in the free agency. i still think that ben gordon was a waste unless u plan on trading rip. but u shoulda traded rip over AA.

What young PG did we lose?

yep i agree with Detpistons3

Afflalo was a good SG but i don’t believe he would have ever been a PG. What we lost is a young SG who can defend the 1,2,and 3 spots on the floor and i also believe if given the chance he is capable of giving you good points. to me trading Afflalo cements Rips spot on this team

PG:Stuckey,Bynum,Singletary
SG: Hamilton,Gordon*,Washington
SF: Prince,Daye
PF: Villanueva,Maxiell,Summers
C:Brown,Plastied,Jerkbo**

  • Yes Gordon will come off the bench because thats the way he likes it people
    • The Pistons are using him (Jerkbo) in the Summer league at C so i think we are going to see him play any of the 3,4 and 5 spots

PGs

I think its a battle between Sean Singletary and Jeremy Pargo for the last Roster spot (15 isn’t it? if so both could make it but wouldn’t one or both be Inactive?)

As far as I can see

The only ones under contract are:
1. Rodney Stuckey
2. Rip Hamilton
3. Tayshuan Prince
4. Charlie Villanueva
5. Kwame Brown
6. Ben Gordon
7. Jason Maxiell
8. Austin Daye
9. Will Bynum
10. Dajuan Summers
11. Jonas Jerebko
12. Deron Washington

So there should be three roster spots available, one to sign a big man (Glen Davis, Chris Wilcox, Drew Gooden) and a 3rd PG off the bench (Pargo, Singletary)

i would love to see Tayshaun shipped to the Bobcats

For Okafor. Tayshaun and Jerekbo who they coveted and wanted to take in the Draft

Tay for Okafor

With that move, I’d nominate Joe D for Exec. of the Year, no questions asked. That would be a PERFECT compliment to Villanueva’s game, a defensive stopper that tries to block every shot. I get excited just thinking about it. Throwing in Jerekbo would be a dissapointing loss, especially since we didn’t even see him develop like Walter Sharpe, but it would be a small price to pay for a former rookie of the year. He still has room to grow and can turn into a dominate inside force. Him and Stuckey would form an excellent inside-out combo.
