Arron Afflalo and Walter Sharpe Traded to Denver
Via Yahoo's Adrian Wojnarowski:
Detroit traded Arron Afflalo and Walter Sharpe to Denver for a future second-round pick, a move that creates another $1.8 million in salary cap space for the Pistons, a league source said Monday.
The rumor had been floating around for a couple days, but it finally came true today. Afflalo, who was really starting to progress with the Pistons, will re-join former Piston, Chauncey Billups in Denver. This also explains why Walter Sharpe has not been involved in the Pistons first two summer league games in Vegas.
Meanwhile, the extra cap space Detroit receives in return merely gives Joe Dumars a little extra wiggle room with any future potential trades or free agent signings. The Pistons really needed to get rid of a guard, and they did, but it makes you wonder if Richard Hamilton is still legitimate trade bait. The Boozer trade talk still lingers, but the latest rumor did not involve Rip, as it had Tayshaun going to Portland as part of a three-team deal. It will be interesting to see what Joey D has up his sleeve next.

Impact on Summers?
Does this mean that Summers has a better chance of making the team now that Detroit dumped a forward (Sharpe)?

I think Summers is a lock
And yes, moving Sharpe made that all the more likely.

Summers has been tearing it up
He has a good shot now
However, I am sad to see Afflalo go….hopefully he will get decent minutes sharing time with JR Smith

I'm perplexed
I guess Denver didn’t use the entire trade exception which would give us a whopping 3.5 mil in cap. This has me wondering if we’ll sign a less talked about free agent like Zaza Pachulia or if a big trade is on the way

Trade is a.....
…..possiblility….or maybe a lesser FA like Chris Wilcox……We shall see.

I prefer
Zaza Pachulia to Chris Wilcox, but either is servicable. Zaza has started for Atlanta in the past so you have to like that he has starting experience. Wilcox has started before but it was for a lukewarm Sonics team.

At this point...
…why not save the cap space for something worthwhile. $1.8million is virtually useless on it’s own, but it could be enough to give them a slight edge with a player actually worth spending it on.

Well
it’s 1.8 mil plus the 2mil or so that we had left over from that big boat of cap space, so we’re pretty close to the MLE as far as cap goes.

mean no BIG trade coming up? :(

Another big move is coming...
@CV31 said “another big move is coming,” but I wouldn’t call this Afflalo trade a “big move,” so I think it’s tricky trying to pinpoint just how big an upcoming move will be. I can assure you, though Joe Dumars is not done making moves.
