Defense is Desire

With the recent signings of Gordon,Villanueva and Wilcox we look to be a very explosive team on the Offensive side of the ball, my question is are we going to have Defense from the three new signings? I am not convinced we are a going to be a Defensive team, but that being said Defense isn't a skill its all desire and if these guys buy into the desire then i see this team being a top 5 team. I think we are going to see a team like this Starters: PG:Bynum SG:Hamilton SF:Prince PF:Villanueva C:Wilcox Reserves: PG:Stuckey SG:Gordon SF:Daye,Jerekbo PF:Maxiell,Summers C:Brown,(Wallace) Please people stop saying trade Hamilton its stupidity First Gordon is willing to come off the bench he has done so his entire career, second Rip is capable of playing SF so you could play him and Gordon at the same time, if anyone is to be traded it should be Prince who has 2 maybe three rookies behind him good enough to start.

Bynum isn't going to start

Joe D has said it repeatedly, Stuckey is the PG of the future, Bynum is a very capable backup. I don’t understand why people are so hard on Stuckey all the time, look at the rookie PGs took ahead of him, Michael Conley, and Acie Law. Look at how they’re doing. I’m sure Memphis and Atlanta both wish they had drafted Stuckey instead. Just give him time, last year was his first year starting and it was under Michael Curry, and as we all know, MCIAFI. The additions of Gordon and Villy, as well as offensive mastermind John Kuester will do wonders for Stuckey’s development. Gordon will help Stuckey the most, his 3pt shooting will greatly help Stuck’s abiliity to drive and dish. Teams constantly have to keep an eye out for Gordon on the perimeter, so when Stuckey drives, and a help defender comes over, either Villy/Hamilton/Prince will be wide open. Just look at what Gordon did for Derrick Rose! The tandem of Stuckey and Gordon will give teams headaches for years.

I agree with the notion that we should avoid trading Rip, partially. We shouldn’t dish Rip out for the simple fact that he’s “too old”. If the right deal comes along, you pull the trigger. I wouldn’t object to a Brandon Wright-for-Jason Richardson-type-deal. Trade an established veteran for a young gun with outstanding potential. But you better be damn sure that big man will develop into a quality player because that’s arguably the best player on your team that you’re giving up.

no but you will see Stuckey and Gordon will always be on the floor at the same time

its the size factor i don’t expect Bynum to star (Yes i put him in there) i just did that because he will probably run a lot with Hamilton and Prince. I actually believe Bynum,Hamilton,Prince,Maxiell and Brown/(Wallace if he comes) will play a ton together (along with Wilcox sometimes) and Stuckey,Gordon,Daye,Villanueva,Wilcox will be together a ton, Summersand Jerekbo will rotate in at PF and SF and Washington becomes a situational player

and oh yes

if you get the right deal for Rip i agree trade him away but don’t just do it cause he doesn’t fit cause i don’t think thats true

Rip For Bosh

At trade dealine…..cant wait!!!

by BennieBladesFan on Jul 30, 2009 5:10 PM CDT up reply actions

That's a dangerous deal

Because there is a HIGH possibility you only get Bosh for half a season, then you basically gave Rip away for nothing. I would only trade him if you’re certain he’ll sign an extension. And you can’t discuss this before you trade for him, that’s illegal :\

stuckey

The reason everyone is so hard on stuckey is he is not a good point guard his assist to turnover ratio is only 0.07 higher than Nate Robinsin one of the worst POINT guards in the NBA. He was surounded with great shotters already in Rip, Prince and Sheed which is basicly the same as this year Villy for sheed and you cant say Gordon will help Stuck to cause how much was he on the floor with Afflao and he still posted bad numbers. These new addition arnt going to help his terible 4.9 assites.

Couple things wrong with that

Stuckey’s Ast/TO ratio is 2.23. Which is 2.23 assists for every 1 turnover. That’s not bad for a rookie PG, it’s about the same as Derek Rose’s. And Afflalo isn’t nearly in the same caliber as Ben Gordon, I don’t understand that point at all. And you are also forgetting John Kuester, who is a good offensive mind, he’ll help Stuck by running well tailored plays for him and help him get his teammates in the right spots. SImilar to what LB did for Chauncey.

Well

Stuckey played his first full season last year, so that’s why I used the Rookie PG reference

hey did i not come across clear

i think that Gordon,Villanueva,Wilcox all have the ability to be top defenders yes top defenders, but defense is all about desire and that is the question do they have the desire? from what i have heard from them it sounds like they are going to do whatever it takes so i think they will but none of us can say for sure till we see the product out there on the floor

And that's why I think bringing back Ben is important

With 3 out of 5 of the core back in place, they will instill that old mindset. Toughness. Defense. Nothing gets in attitude. He can stay injured the entire season, but if he fulfills a leadership role and instills that mindset, the money is well spent.
