Jason Maxiell is a bad man

Jason Maxiell has played only four years in the NBA, but that's enough for Kelly Dwyer to rank him the fourth-best dunker of the decade -- ahead of guys like Josh Smith and LeBron James. On a side note, I absolutely love his rationale for picking the order:

There is absolutely no rhyme or reason to this list.

We merely ranked the 10 finest dunkers we saw over the last 10 years, based on how much they made us squeal and/or mug in our own living room(s) over the last decade. No stats, no documentation besides a sordid past and lots of YouTube'ness, no way to prove that I'm wrong or right.

I love that he referenced the Jason Maxiell Eats Babies t-shirt. I also love how pissy the commenters get about Maxi being on the list instead of Kobe and T-Mac.

Jason Maxiell is a bad dunker. I enjoy his slam dunk shots quite a bit— when they actually go in.

I predict a certain t-shirt will be on high demand very soon. Speaking of which, I think I’ll wear mine today.

Yeah, laugh out loud at Jordan, and the fact that they make mention of his inability to duplicate his success on the court into success in the front office. Lets relish in the fact that our GM has a sportmanship award named after him.

Can anyone recall any cheap shots on or off the court by Dumars

RE: Jordan’s ‘acceptance’ show …

I purposely skipped that night, specifically because I knew that cocksucker was going to do exactly what he did.

Now, I don’t necessarily have a problem with douchebag elite athletes. Ty Cobb is one of the greatest players to play the game of baseball. Ty Cobb was a notorious monster, worse than anything Barry Bonds cooked up during his own douchebag era.

I revere Ty Cobb. What you saw is what you got.

I hate Jordan. I don’t hate him because he was good … he was elite, that’s a base respect … I think I know why I hate him so much.

The whole time I was growing up, I heard the refrain, “If I could be like Mike! (I WANNA BE WANNA BE LIKE MIKE!!!)” Over and over. All fucking through the 1990s. He was idolized. Golden boy. Could do no wrong. He was the son of the basketball gods, by all accounts.

All fucking lies.

Imagine if you saw an ad back from the early baseball era, “Be like Ty Cobb!” as the caption, with him shaking the hand of the cripple he crawled into the crowd after, to whoop his ass for heckling him.

That’s what the Jordan era feels like, in terms of modern advertising. Never mind that he was one of the world’s largest egos and a king asshole … you wanna be like him! Buy his Nikes! Watch Spike Lee suck his cock!

So, fuck Jordan. Darko Milicic > Jordan, in my book. Why? Because that fucking asshole demands I bow to his greatness, and he’s never fucking satisfied.

The basketball gods should do the world a favor and take him from this existence, ASAP, before he thoroughly destroys every shred of joy anyone ever experienced watching him play. Using your HOF acceptance speech to nanny-poo-poo people like it was 1997? Get raped, Mike.

by Diablo on Sep 13, 2009 7:07 PM EDT reply actions

Hey! The Lions scored 27 points, yippee!
It was a game they had no shot of winning (isn’t every game?) but at least the running game was able to relieve the load on Stafford. Oh wait, it sucked again.
I still think Stafford has the right stuff, and as soon as other pieces start to click together the offense should become even better. I hope.

by Laughton on Sep 13, 2009 7:47 PM EDT reply actions

I’ve hated Jordan since he started all the bullshit complaining about how the pistons were thugs, and then after the ref’s called a bunch of bullshit calls in the series , and the Bulls were finally able to get by us,he had the balls to say how he made the game of basketball safe to play again ,or something like that.He was a tremendous talent but as a person and a manager an abysmal failure. As for the lions they’ll be fine with another yr. or two of filling the holes that the Millen left, I know he’s out there somewhere thinking if I could have had just one more high drafted receiver and one more coach who’s name started with an M,I could have turn this thing around.

Cry me a river, AI. I was told you would adapt to our environment, that you’d put team before self— and I assumed you’d at least maintain your career averages. I was let down more than you were, princess.

by Mike Payne on Sep 14, 2009 12:00 AM EDT reply actions

What will Maxiell’s role be if he is not even listed as a backup on the team website?!

by Pablo on Sep 14, 2009 12:39 AM EDT reply actions

When a player is traded no promises are made.he is pretty much shipped against his will. and said player is at the mercy of the team that he is sent to. With that being said, Iverson was fully accomadated. He came into a set rotation and got a spot that he clearly didn’t earn, At some point Curry mishandled things. but that appeared to be with his treatment of Rip. We heard him “Iverson” make all of the promises, and he lied to us. The fact that he would utter such a thing, clearly shows that he has not been humbled by what has happened to him this off season. watch for an implosion in Memphis before the trade deadline.

by scntfc on Sep 14, 2009 7:29 AM EDT reply actions

Stafford reminds me of Harrington with a stronger arm and less accuracy.

Lions offense actually looks better than Chicago’s though … too bad Detroit’s defense is going to lead them to a possible 0-16.

by Sauce1977 on Sep 14, 2009 7:31 AM EDT reply actions

TDP – I was just ready to link to that. Now that he’s signed a contract, all this shit is going to be said.

Factually: He’s coming to a team that plays TEAM ball, team has been to the ECF 6 straight years with their core and they’re going to bring in a guy and say “here, do what you want you’re our leader?” Fuck A.I.

He’ll poison the Memphis locker room and I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s traded away or released before the All-Star break.

Didn’t Lionel Hollins play with the Trailblazers/Walton/Luca era? He’ll have to be a miracle worker. What’s even better, after this season when shit hits the fan in Memphis, AI will be radioactive. Time for the AI farewell tour to begin.

Buck’s Diary has ranked Rip’s contract as one of the 10 most toxic contracts in the league — agree or disagree?

http://mvn.com/bucksdiary/2009/09/the-10-most-toxic-nba-contracts.html

==========

Which will be greater?
1) The number of months the Lions go without a win?
2) The number of points they score next week?

by brgulker on Sep 14, 2009 1:20 PM EDT reply actions

Well, the Saints are darkhorse pick for the SB by some and Brees did throw for over 5K yards last season. But, 6??

3-29 over two years will take some time to correct.

Rip’s contract is toxic, but to a great extent because of the economy/cap coming down. OTOH, he is a top 10 SG in MHO. ~20 ppg, decent defense and is improving on his 3 pt accuracy and I don’t see his body breaking down as much as some of the other 2 guards in the league.

by MarkButter in SoCal on Sep 14, 2009 1:35 PM EDT reply actions

Rip’s contract isn’t great but it’s nowhere near as bad as the contracts in the league for guys who got payed on potential or one fluke season and never panned out.

by joejoejoe on Sep 14, 2009 2:24 PM EDT reply actions

I hear what you’re both saying … and not to beat a dead horse, but what kills me about Rip’s contract is actually Ben Gordon’s contract.

I don’t see how they both average the points they’ve averaged throughout their career — diminishing returns, as it were.

by brgulker on Sep 14, 2009 2:33 PM EDT reply actions

Interesting list. I see a few guys that are overpaid, and a few that cant stay healthy. Rip is being paid hat he is worth. the only thing that makes his contract toxic IMO is the fact that we have BG. so the contract runs untill 2013, and Rip will be how old at that time? Im sure that each of us can come up with a handfull of guys who Have/will make the same or more at that age. but have not had as much consistency healthwise. Rip’s a warrior.

He was told he would be the leader of the team…yeah fucking right. it wasn’t his choice to come here to begin with. He forgot the fact that he was traded.

by Rami on Sep 14, 2009 4:44 PM EDT reply actions

C’mon Rami. It certainly no reflection on AI that we imploded last year. That’d be a hit to his sterling rep as a team player.

What’s even more funny, given Detroit’s “culture” over the past 6 years is that he’d actually think anyone would believe his story.
