"I am flattered by and very much appreciate those who strongly believed I would make a formidable candidate and an effective governor," Dumars said in a statement released by the Pistons. "But I am not a politician and do not have plans to run for public office.
"I love the state of Michigan and am optimistic about its future despite the difficult economic times and immense challenges currently on our doorstep. I wish the best to all the candidates running for important leadership positions in the months ahead."
