"I really didn't understand the logic of that trade," he said. "I guess they were in a rebuilding stage, and it's showing now."
Asked if he would still be in Detroit if Billups were still there, McDyess said, "I think I would."

Really Dyess?
You had your chance to stay with Chauncy, you got traded to Denver with him.

I dont think it’s so much about being with Chauncey. It was about the Pistons. and the win win situation that every player from that era experienced. Im not a Joe D. basher, but had he made better draft selections there would be no need to experience the rebuild like we are currently.

Dyess comes close to putting Denver over the top
Denver’s frontcourt would have been:
Nene
K Mart
Birdman
Dyess
That’s godly.

Bad timing?
It’s natural for ‘Dyess to talk about the Pistons when he is about to play them for the first time since signing with a new team, but a comment of this nature can only fire up his old team. He speaks truth, probably, and maybe his feelings were already known by the Pistons, but I just don’t get why he would take the night before the game to drop this public hammer on the Pistons. If I were Joey D, I’d have a nice little pep talk ready for tonight’s game — the Pistons have lost 10 in a row and now they have former players further embarrassing the team?
I love ’Dyess, but this is a lot like the Jason Grilli comments when he was in Colorado which was followed by a “Jason Grilli aught to worry about Jason Grilli and Colorado” rant from Jim Leyland.

It's quite possible
Dyess was never really asked. The media doesn’t ask questions like these until they’re pertinent, and they’re as pertinent as can be thanks to a fully matured news cycle— a game against his former team tonight. I can see why the press asked this question now, and I can’t say any of Dyess’s comments are in poor taste.
Besides, people’s tongues loosen up more and more as time goes on. The further away you get from an event, the more apt people are to talk about it. Dyess may not have said these things in the offseason, if asked.

Different points of View
Simply put, McDyess perspective and Joe D’s perspective’s are very different.
McDyess perspective: I just went from a team who wins 50-60 games a year and gets to the final 4, to a team that barely makes the playoffs and has to make all kinds of adjustments to new players and a new system. This SUCKS! The old way is better.
Joe D perspective: This team isn’t getting any younger and it’s already been passed the conference by Boston and possibly Cleveland and Orlando. I can’t wait until these guys are too old to compete and I can’t get anything for them in trade. I have to move NOW!
See how that works? Both right from their own perspective. However, Joe D’s job is to look out for the LONG TERM well being of the team, whereas McDyess’ job is to try and get as close to a championship as he can as soon as possible due to his age.
Last but not least, McDyess’ perspective is a bit scewed as Billups was is his best friend by his own admission. Not exactly objective. I’m with Joe D on this one.
