Around SBN: Champions League Preview with Jimmy Conrad

As for the NBA, Johnson said he has not talked with his hometown Detroit Pistons, although the club is for sale. Mike Ilitch, who owns the Tigers and Red Wings, is negotiating to buy the Pistons and has reached out to Johnson, the former Lakers star said.

Johnson also said he recently sat down with the group that has reached a deal to buy the Golden State Warriors, but "nothing came out of it," Johnson said.

And Johnson said he hasn't had any discussion with the Dodgers, saying, "No, I won't be buying the Dodgers."

"I talked with Golden State. I will talk with [Ilitch about] Detroit," Johnson said. "Just because you talk, that doesn't mean you are going to do a deal. But I'll be looking at every opportunity because I'm a businessman and that's what I do. I look at deals every day."

I heard that his new focus is bringing a NFL franchise back to Los Angeles.

This wouldn’t be a new, scratch-built team, but a relocation. Tampa Bay, Jacksonville, St. Louis are a few possibilities.

Magic is obviously keeping his intentions obscure. But as a JOD skeptic, I am intrigued by the prospect of Magic joining an ownership group and eventually forcing some changes in the Pistons GM/basketball/personnel operations.

If he is going in on the Pistons, he must be going in HARD

105 million of starbucks plus the “deal you can’t walk away from” stack of cash that he got from the lifetime laker fan PLUS whatever he had just laying around or what he could raise prior to a big purchase. If the pistons sell for $400 million it is possible he could get together over $200 and be the majority owner. To buy an organization as good as the Pistons in a depressed market like Michigan, Magic must realize this is the best deal he might get for some time, especially if the new CBA makes franchises a great deal more valuable.

Then I wonder why Illitch would spend all summer doing this only to end up with less than half of a team…

But then I remembered that Illitch probably wants all of the venues. So Illitch might end up getting a good deal on Palace entertainment that he could sell the Pistons to Magic and lease him the stadium. Seems like a good deal for both.

Either way I think the Pistons are going to improve over all.

Magic, Illitch. Either way these are good developments. I think both guys are used to winning and want more. I don’t see how this could’ve went better, actually. KD sells like she should. Detroit gets a new arena and the Stones are actually from Detroit again. I’m a little ahead of myself but I’m excited.

I just got home. I left early for the Miami Heat / Orlando Magic game in Tampa tonight. Earlier this summer, DBB discussed putting together a Get Mike Payne Out of Jail fund for my expected antics which would get me thrown in jail. The expectation— me tossing a full can of Miller Lite at Lebron’s chin.

I arrived, but the game was cancelled at the last minute…

…due to concerns about player safety. I shit you not.

Charlie V starting at the PF

He has to be a better defender at that position than Daye, right? Right??

I get the idea that Charlie V was benched because of a lack of defense, but is he really worse than Daye at defending PF?
