just epinion: The Wisdom of coachDP

As a relatively senior (if that's the word) member of the DBB community, I've had the pleasure of reading the comments of many great (and to me, largely anonymous) contributors. Some of them are gone (PistonsGirl4Life springs to mind, as does LawyerBoy). Some are still here (I'm looking at you, Boney). Many are memorable. Many are downright outstanding.

But there's no one quite like coachDP. No one. No one gets more "recs" (as far as I can tell.) No one gets more praise. And no one can write like coachDP (tho many have tried).

Here, I've collected as many coachDP insights as I could find using the advanced search on Google. Originally, I thought of providing context for each, but looking through them I feel as if they stand on their own. In any case, the links should take you to the original context.

These are gems. They are priceless pearls of wisdom. I cannot put my finger on the appeal of these brief posts. I cannot tell if it's the hynoptic mix of CAPS and lowercase, the brutal honesty of "no sugarcoat," or the disarming "just epinion," which is as far as I can tell a portmanteau of "electronic" and "opinion" (tho my only evidence for this is his use of the term "e-blog" for DBB). Nor can I decide if it's the mystery of coachDP: the fact that he (or she!) reveals no personal details and only posts sporadically. Perhaps the best answer is that it is a mix of all of these, plus the social construction of coachDP as the most loved member of the blog.

I am fascinated by the culture of this site, and I'm very happy to contribute this post out of my respect for y'all.

pistons near fourth or fifth SEED, need extra PUSH to get there, and avoid GOOD team in first round. all-star guard coming off BENCH could key late season RUN. iverson best when HE is go-to GUY, put with afflalo, max, amir, or WHOEVER else, and he will be in BEST situation not only for HIM, but also for TEAM. just epinion

I know a lot of us have mocked coachDP, either by emulating his STYLE or by questioning the logic of his posts. I believe that this has been largely in good fun, and that the extremely high amount of "recs" DP gets is a testament to our affection for him or her. But even in those lapsed moments where someone in DBB mocks him/her cruelly, I can't think of a better response than Roll the Dyess's:
