Weird trade rumor from Sekou Smith: Tayshaun Prince for Jamal Crawford
Technically he's suggesting Tayshaun (and perhaps Will Bynum) for Jamal Crawford and Jeff Teague. While I like the idea of getting a PG prospect back in Teague, adding yet another SG to the mix in Crawford is mind-numbingly redundant. What say you?

agreed
It doesn’t make much sense. Seems like talks may be happening between the Pistons and Hawks, but it’s turning into a hilarious game of telephone.
Josh Smith
is the ONLY Hawks player I want on the team.Rosterwise this trade doesn’t make any sense.
Sort of like how Dumars starter to inquire about Carmelo
and then ended up trading for AI.
Jonas, jag älskar dig! Du är vacker.
So are we going to end up with just Joe Johnson’s contract, then? Not the player, just the contract. Tayshaun couldn’t fetch us Joe Johnson, I don’t think.

This seems like so much bullshit. I still think Joe can pull something off (he’s spent all summer making sound yet sensible moves, but I’d even argue he’s never been a guy for great flashy moves), but I really don’t see this happening. Crawford and Gordon are similar in that they both have been in this debate about whether they should be 6th men or not. And here’s the frightening thing: we do this, we could possibly be playing a McGrady/Gordon/Crawford/Daye/Wallace lineup at some point. Shudder to think.
Basically, if Joe trades for Crawford, I think he should be fired.
If we can't fill positional needs by trading Prince
then we keep him and the salary relief and hope to re-sign him cheaper next season.
For Jonas!!
And while we’re at it, we should move Jason Maxiell for Matt Carroll, then Chris Wilcox and Greg Monroe for Jason Kapono. As the greatest general manager of our generation (Isiah Thomas, of course) said, “That’s a problem with being a visionary. You’re way too far out, and by the time it catches up, people will hack you to death.” Long, smooth, and can really stroke it FTW!
prince
no point in letting him expire. i’d like to see him get used for something.
in the end this trade basically adds Teague and that’s it considering it’s a swap of expirings. unless Dumars wants to make Teague his next Stuckey-like project this trade makes zero to negative sense.
Josh Smith or bust.
no point in letting him expire
If we can’t find real value for Prince, letting him expire is not a bad consolation at all. That $11M will go a long way toward a new contract for Jerebko, possibly re-signing Stuckey and filling holes in 2011-12.
For Jonas!!
Still better than trading for a non-piece.
Adding more long term salary guarantees you have to part ways with Stuckey, Jerebko, or both. We have to clear out salary if we want to avoid the luxury tax. And that’s without a CBA, so we have no earthly idea what that will be set at, if it still exists, etc. We could find ourselves in deeper financial difficulty (and we wouldn’t be the only ones either, meaning it would be even tougher to find a trading partner).
Prince HAS to land a high quality piece to make the trade worthwhile.
Terrence J. is feeling a bit fishy...

Maybe we're looking to make this trade...
because JoD has Rip + Jamal t’d up to send to Philly for Brand.
Jonas Jerebko once killed a charging female rhinoceros in heat protecting its young with nothing more than a hook shot.
Involve Iguodala and Josh Smith (along with Villanueva and Bibby) and make this thing a MFBlockbuster!

If the best we can get for Tay is Jamal Crawford
We’re more screwed than I — maybe the biggest pessimist on the board, mind you — could have imagined. I cannot say, “No” emphatically enough to this idea.
I wouldn’t mind having Jamal Crawford if it meant Rip was also on his way out.

Yup. Agreed.
Jonas Jerebko once killed a charging female rhinoceros in heat protecting its young with nothing more than a hook shot.
That seems like a big risk to take. Trade for yet another SG who’s got a $10+ million contract in hopes that you can eventually move Rip?
Sure, Jamal’s expiring and all, but unless Rip is gone first, it seems like a pretty stupid move. I mean, $30+ million invested in 3 middling SGs? Ouch.
$30M?
Why stop there! I say we load up on SGs until we’re at the cap, then re-hire Michael Curry. Instant Championship?
For Jonas!!

Eww
I hate the idea of trading Tay. He’s playing really solid right now and is expiring this summer. Doesn’t crawford do the same thing as BG anyway?
If OKC continues to play below expectations they may be looking to trade near the deadline. Would they go for Rip and Maxiell for Kristic, Sefolosha, and Mo-Pete?
I will forever abhor DMC not being a Piston.
Well with the swapping of Sefolosha and Hamilton they’re only paying Rip $24.15 mil more over three years coming in at $8.05 mil/yr.
OKC’s production from the 2 position has been the worst of any position this year. So far Sefolosha has the 6th most win shares/48 at .049 and Harden has the worst on the team at -.054.
Sefolosha is worse in almost every statistical category than last year playing 24 mpg, 4 less than last year including shooting an abysmal 7/24(.292).
Harden may be a good player one day, but he’s not there yet. The fact he hasn’t taken the starting job from Sefolosha yet is a little concerning. OKC can’t wait forever for their young players to mature, you never know what will happen in the future in terms of injuries and disloyalties, so they have to make a decision sometime that this is the year they’re going for it all. Plus they don’t have to pay Harden until after Hamilton’s contract runs out.
I had Maxiell in there, because so far this season OKC has been lacking on rebounding and overall toughness, but the fact that they have to resign Green this offseason may make them leary of taking on the extra salaries of Hamilton AND Maxiell.
So maybe they will go for just Hamilton for Kristic and Sefolosha.

sold
however they have to make a decision on jeff green in the offseason and might want the money to figure that out. but if they want rip he’s theirs. no problem.
chris sheridan posted something about a rip to OKC deal involving collison/carroll. both expirings i believe. i’d like to get sefalosha though. he’d be a good backup defender.
So you’re talking about how terrible OKC’s SG’s have been in six games. Meanwhile, Hamilton has already missed time this season and is putting up his worst performance since his rookie season in these same six games. He’s had one good game this year, having come off an equally terrible season last year. You’ve got to look at it both ways man.
So maybe they will go for just Hamilton for Kristic and Sefolosha.
If OKC is even remotely stupid enough to engage with that completely and utterly one-sided trade, I would publish love poems about Jod here once a week, if not more, for the rest of the season.
Look at it from their perspective: “Hmmmm… I’d like to pay $12M/yr to one player who is a terrible injury risk, a shell of the player he once was and who demands an offense that runs at a slower pace than my team should run.”
Since Jamal Crawford was the source of this post, why wouldn’t OKC just shoot for Crawford instead?
You don’t have to sell me on this trade, I’d take it in a heartbeat, two times. But this trade effectively makes OKC worse in the short term, ties them up in the long term, etc. I don’t get how anyone could think OKC would do this. By god I hope they do, but man… wtf crazy.
For Jonas!!
