Terry Foster admonishes Kuester for not establishing defined roles for the players.

So what say all of you? Is the lack of defined roster roles Kuester's biggest sin this year? Or, is not knowing exactly how much you will play (or when) not really that big a deal?

On the one hand, I’d say that his biggest sin has been inconsistent rotations, which lead to undefined roles.

On the other hand, it’s hard to fault a coach for trying different things with a mismatched, losing roster.

This is no secret, but I think this about Q:

yeah the real question though is Could Kuester successfully coach a team that was more balanced as far as talent by position is concerned?

While the talent on this team is JoD’s doing, I’m also not convinced that Kuester could do much more if he had a more balanced roster. But we can’t really know until the roster problems are taken care of.

I don’t think we’ll ever know how good/bad Q could be, because he definitely won’t get another contract with us, and I struggle to think of another franchise that would turn to him now. Too bad for him, really. Set up to fail, IMO.

the majority here isn't scapegoating Kuester

I know you’re trying to defend Kuester, but the majority of DBB knows who the real problem is. It’s no secret.

However, this fucked up roster (and wider organization) doesn’t absolve Kuester from coaching like a fuckin’ dickhead.

For Jonas!!

I didn’t mean to point at DBB. I was thinking more about the media in Michigan right now. Not sure how active you are in Twitter, but if you follow any of the beat writers, you’ll see plenty of venom headed Q’s way lately, with little to no criticism of you know who (it’s like he’s too sacred to mention or something).

But I didn’t clarify. So yeah, that’s what I was thinking.

i think that's because

people actually think the pistons have talent. i mean we have rip hamilton! 18 ppg career! ben gordon! prince! wallace! oh and everybody’s favorite future superstar rodney stuckey!

these guys are all stars bogged down by kuesters ineptitude. at least, i think that’s how a lot of fans feel.

Actually, I Placed Quite A Bit On Ownership

I think you’ll see an improvement in things once the club is sold.

Also, some things that hurt now will turn out being good for our long term development. For example, Monroe is looking like he’s going to be a solid NBA player at his rate of development.

I will defend Q a little bit…you have four 3s, all of whom can start for most teams, Daye included. How do you divide up the minutes? Then you have two former All Stars at the SG positon, and BG. Where do you divide the minutes there? Especially when your PG is more combo guard than PG? finally, what do you do with the lousy chemistry, where you have one faction of the vets, and the other faction of the next group of players? Especially when apparently ownership has tied management’s hands? It is a mess, but you also don’t blow 25 point leads at home, either. I think a more established coach would have trouble with the rotations, also, but not so much where you lose games you’re supposed to win.

@MP funny clip, and she does dress like a stripper lol

I hope Lam is catching on fast. I believe he’s going to be the next guy, Q’s days are numbered, and the only thing that has saved him is the ownership situation….as if firing a coach would undermine the value of the franchise (they may be thinking that actually).

Just remember what happened when the Tigers hired Trammell. He wasn’t ready for the gig, but it was a great learning experience, and the next time he gets a managerial gig, he’ll do a much better job.

What's the problem ...

if almost all of the players on the team are coming in with career lows. Stuckey has clearly improved but still gets frustrated and falls back into his bad habits. Munroe is clearly getting better. CV has been better but remains inconsistent. Against that lets look at Hamilton, BG, Prince sometimes, Maxiel, Bynum (especially), and Daye (whose gone backwards within the context of the season). Those six are almost half your roster and most of your rotation (if you can figure out what the rotation is). Beyond the sheer shame of games like Saturday, that’s why fans are frustrated with Kuester. But at the risk of sounding like a broken record, benching Hamilton would help immediately on so many coaching levels. Why such an obvious solution is not put into practice is the question. Is that on the coach? I don’t know but sure as hell would like to …

Note that Daye's regression this season is directly linked with 11/17

Through the game on 11/17 (first 11), Daye was averaging 22 minutes per game. Since then he’s averaging only 8.5 minutes per game. He was inexplicably removed from the rotation simply because Kuester realized he STARTING at power forward.

Daye’s stats over the first 11 games: 9.7 points, 4.4 rebounds and 52% from beyond the arc
Maxiell’s stats since replacing Daye in the starting lineup: 5.7 points, and 2.8 rebounds while shooting 52% from the field.

The Pistons are 3-10 with Maxiell taking Day’es minutes while the team was 4-7 with Daye in the starting lineup.

So I can understand Daye being replaced in the starting lineup at PF, but there is absolutely no explanation for why he isn’t playing at all anymore. For those of you who keep saying that T-Mac is currently outplaying him, well thats not very hard considering he’s only getting an average of 8 minutes per game and that doesn’t factor in the multiple DNP-CDs that he’s gotten as well. It also doesn’t explain why he’s not getting more burn when T-Mac is playing point forward based on Bynums lack of production.

So in short, Daye’s regression is of no fault to Daye but entirely due to Kuester’s inexplicable action of removing him from the rotation all together after doing just about EVERYTHING right.
