CONTROVERSY: Smith’s attitude poses problems for Hawks
"The league’s most CONTROVERSIAL Coach vs. Player CONTROVERSY doesn’t involve DeMarcus 'CONTROVERSIAL' Cousins in Sacramento or Terrence Williams in New Jersey. No, the most CONTROVERSIAL battle is the CONTROVERSY brewing in Atlanta, between rookie coach Larry Drew and CONTROVERSIAL forward Josh Smith — a CONTROVERSY that boiled over in public this past weekend."

Kind of wish this story was about Villanueva and Kuester
The coach benched Smith midway through the fourth quarter of Atlanta’s win over the Sixers on Friday after he missed a 22-footer and a 20-footer after Drew instructed him to avoid such shots. Smith threw a bit of a tantrum in response.
Do dat, please.
For Jonas!!
Nuts. I prefer temper tantrums. Hissy fits are even better.
Really though, I think this would require capital Kuester doesn’t have. There’s a reason Smith lashes out like this – he’s already gotten one coach fired, and he knows he can do the same thing to Drew. This sort of thing doesn’t happen in Utah, San Antonio, or LA where the players know the coach is there to stay and if they want to keep their minutes/job, they’ve got to treat the coach with respect. You can’t be an effective leader when you’re looking over your shoulder.
Agreed
but Kuester did bench the newly-signed Villanueva last season and practically cut him from the rotation. CV’s 3-point attempts are out tha window this season, yet there’s not even loose evidence to suggest Kuester is doing anything about it.
For Jonas!!
Personally I don’t have a problem with the threes. If anything, I wish we could shoot more. Right now we’re hitting threes at a 39 percent clip for the team, up from 31 percent last year. But we’re shooting them at essentially the same rate as last year, even though we’re doing it more effectively. Since we’re without Jerebko, who else is going to be able to shoot them in quantity but Gordon and Villanueva? Well other than Summers, of course. Another possibility is in regards to those reports that suggested that Villanueva was one of the few in the locker room who were determined not to be a distraction. It could be that Kuester doesn’t feel he can afford to call out one of his few non-critics.
Really though if reincarnation is real, what I hope for most of all is in his next life for Dumars to come back as a general manager for an owner for whom general managers have an average tenure length of 2 years…
Yeah...CV is hitting 40% of his 3s right now
thats good for 6 percentage points above his career average. I also think the offensive sets we run with CV get him more open shots from beyond the arc than posting up inside which would indicate that Kuester actually prefers CV shooting 3s over shooting inside.
Without access to synergysports, but looking at his FG%, he’s shooting 40% from beyond the arc but only 43% from the field. With just under half his shots coming from beyond the arc, he’s not actually shooting extremely accurately from inside the arc.
So lets say CV only takes 3 3s a game and 8 2 pointers while hitting 40% from the arc and 46% from inside. Doing the quick math, CV would be averaging around 12.3 points per game (1.8 points from the line) instead of the 13.2 points per game he’s currently averaging.

Obviously, those three coaches have earned the right to be where they are for as long as they want to be (ie Joe Paterno). But all of them were once unproven as well. I wonder how much of their respect was fostered (at least at the beginning) by upper management that backed them through thick and thin?
Has Joe created an environment of allowing the players to dictate the game by not just choosing one coach and standing by him?
My personal opinion, in hindsight of course, was that we should not have let go of Rick Carlisle. I don’t think we would have won in ’04, but I think we would have had more success in the long run.
While I agree with the premise that we’d be better off long-term with Carlise, I definitely think we wouldn’t have won a chip without LB. Obviously, LB wore out his welcome, and Joe was right to fire him, but as time has shown, we’ve got several egos on this team, and I think those egos only bend to the right coaching personality … unfortunately, those are really hard to find.
My franchise starting lineup on my NBA 2K11 game I play in my head is:
Stuckey, T-Mac, Jonas, Josh Smith, Demarcus Cousins.
MCIAFI comes off the bench……….to clean the floor.
I will forever abhor DMC not being a Piston.
Stuckey, Evan Turner, Gerald Wallace, Jared Sullinger, and the Moose.
With Seth Curry and Jerebko off the bench.
LeBron James and the HEAT beat my ass pretty good in the first round 4-1. Didn’t help that Stuckey was injured for the series.

Oh, and even though I hired some generic guy as my coach, it says it's Marc Jackson.
Awesome?

A shit-ton.
Turner never misses, and Seth Curry adds a ton, too.
In fact, I think Turner averaged nearly 40 points a game during that series. He was pretty close to unstoppable. Problem was that LeBron averaged nearly 50.

Is Seth Curry a combination of Seth Green and Stephen Curry? Cuz that'd be sweet.
