Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

Sorry to talk trade again, but...

When the team is playing this poorly trade and draft talk is all that keeps me interested.

This all comes from the SB Nation article "Breaking Down the Trade Deadline, Team by Team." There is a link to the article in the Fan Shots section of DBB.

First the teams involved and a summary of the key parts written about them.

Charlotte: Potentially on the block , Tyson Chandler. Possible targets, Jason Maxiell. Goes on to say that Charlotte would love a true power forward.

Utah: Potentially on the block, Carlos Boozer. Possible target, Tayshaun Prince. Its written that by doing this Utah could solve money problems this year and next year.

Dallas: Weakness: Shooting gaurd. Possible target, Rip Hamilton. Its written that Dallas are willing to take on long term contracts.

THE TRADES: Carlos Boozer ($12,323,900, 1 year) for Tayshaun Prince ($10,324,380, 2 years)

Josh Howard($10,890,000, 1 year) for Rip Hamilton($11,375,000, 4 years)

Tyson Chandler($11,700,000, 2 years) for Jason Maxiell($5,000,000, 3 years), Kwame Brown($4,000,000, 1 year) and Chris Wilcox($3,000,000, 1 year plus player option)

To me the Chandler trade seems unlikely, but the other two might have a chance. I know that JoD has said that he isn't interested in trading Rip and Tay for cap space but if nothing gets done these maybe his best offers.

If JoD was able to make these deals it would mean the Pistons finish off this season with a roster consisting of:

Stuckey/Bynum/Atkins/Gordon

Jerebko/Daye/Howard/Summers

Boozer/Villanueva

Wallace/Chandler

Which would mean more time for Bynum at the point, more time for Stuckey at SG and maybe a bit of time for Daye and/or Summers at SG. Should give the Rookies more court time overall and we would also see how a post scoring threat, not so great on D, works with Chandler and Wallace. (I am thinking Cousins/Favors in the draft)

Come summer we would have Stuckey, Gordon, Daye, Jerebko, Villanueva, Chandler and Summers about $36mil. Even after resigning Bynum and Wallace plus two daft picks (say $8mil.), depending on where the salary cap ends up, we could have about $10mil. to spend.

This is all very unlikely to happen but I wish it would and as I said at the start, this is all that is keeping me interested this year, oh and Jerebko.

Boozer is almost for-sure going to Miami. Trading for him would be a bad move.

Chandler has never played well without an all-star caliber point guard. The Pistons don’t have a point guard period. NOt to mention he is hugely injury prone.

Howard is going to be getting quite the payday either this summer or next summer and I doubt we will be able to keep him.

All in all, these trades would be horrible for the Pistons in the long run.

The Boozer and Howard trades are for cap space. They can go where ever they like for what ever they like. If Chandler doesn’t work out he has only one year left on his contract after this and he has got to be better than Kwame and Wilcox.
In the long run Pistons don’t have to pay Rip $12mil.+ for the next 3 years, Maxiell $5mil. for the next two and Wilcox $3Mil. next year.
It is about getting rid of bad contracts and being able to rebuild quicker, rather than just a bit here and there and being mediocre for ages.

Also what do the Pistons lose. The best player they lose is Hamilton, but they just shelled out $60mil. on Gordon who plays in the same spot. They cant afford to keep both.
Prince is playing/acting like he wants to get traded and Jerebko has out performed him anyway.
Maxiell is overpaid and hugely inconsistent. Wilcox and Kwame have been very disappointing.
Can’t see how this is horrible for the Pistons.

Again, we lose EVERYTHING. We won’t have much, if any, cap space this summer no matter what we do. So if we can’t sign Boozer (I honestly would be willing to bet that he ends up in Miami with Wade) and Howard (he’ll be with Gay, Johnson, etc. this summer when the marquee free agents all sign and teams with a boatload of cap space have no choice but to go after them, so it is unlikely we will be able to afford him and his like $15 million contract), then we just traded away Rip, Tayshaun, Maxiell, Wilcox, and Brown for Chandler and, if we are incredibly, incredibly, incredibly lucky, $10 million in cap space to spend on a small name free agent.

These deals don’t work.

Cap space? Sigh. Please read this fanpost. http://www.detroitbadboys.com/2010/1/6/1236795/options-for-rebuilding-the

Cap Space will do little to nothing for us this summer. All that will happen is we will lose a bunch of players and have no money to sign new guys to replace them with.

I don't see boozer leaving

until after the season. It’s not like Amare being shopped so the suns get something for him, they think right now they are contenders to reach the western conference finals.

Trade I tried that just worked: Ray Allen to the Bulls, Hinrich and Rip Hamilton to the Celtics, Tyrus Thomas and Jerome James to the Pistons.

Not sure the market exits for pistons right now outside of old teams like Celtics and Spurss

This trade idea needs to be emailed or faxed to Jod’s office ASAP. Seriously.

OH GOD

This would be the best. I actually just fanposted about wanting Ty Thomas.

Taj Gibson has already rendered him obsolete in Chicago.

I’m unsure we want him here. (Although I asked about him a week or two ago)

I think that all teams might be interested in that one. nice.

that was supposed to be a reply to notagunslinger

Boozer wants to be in Miami, or Orlando.

Neither of them are pursuing him very seriously… Booze is the name you get to try to retain the services of Dwayne Wade? He’s like a 4th option in terms of trade names for them.

Detroit could be the only team honestly interested in taking him, as is.

I don’t want him here, and I’m afraid if he came, he might resign and play shitty, and bring his bitch attitude with him. So dumping Tayshaun & Rip for him might not work out at all.
