Jonas Jerebko Named Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month for February
The news comes via the Pistons official Twitter feed. In the month of February Jonas averaged just over 24 minutes per game, 10.2 points (on 56% shooting - 42% from beyond the arc), and six rebounds. Those numbers aren't too far off from his season totals.
Here's a breakdown of his big games in February via NBA.com:
Feb. 6 vs New Jersey Registered 20 points, seven rebounds and shot 9-9 field goals in a 99-92 win over the Nets.
Feb. 10 vs Sacramento: Scored 11 points and grabbed seven rebounds in a 88-95 loss to the Kings.
Feb. 16 vs. Minnesota: Notched 21 points and two rebounds in a 108-85 win over the Timberwolves.
Feb. 17 @ Orlando: Posted 13 points, three rebounds and two steals in a 91-116 loss to the Magic.
-------------
Jonas sprained his ankle last game for the second time in the past couple weeks, but as I mentioned in the caption of the Warriors recap, Jerebko says he will play tomorrow against the Celtics.
You can use this as your open thread for the rest of the day. Praise Jonas.

Jonas is one of the only bright spots for the Pistons this year. I know there rebuilding but having him is a great start. Hopefully they can get a true center next year and Jonas will keep improving. If you get a chance check out my blog www.jflagrant2.com
Raw is Jerebko

I don't know whether to be proud or ashamed that I get that reference
There have been exactly two “positive” surprises this year: Jerebko and Ben Wallace.
Aside from that, would it be fair to say that everyone else has been at least somewhat disappointing, even accounting for injuries? Rip has had a decent number of decent games, I guess, and Daye probably deserves an “incomplete” grade, so maybe not them. But the rest? Tay and Maxy have had a few good games mixed in with a bunch of forgettable appearances; Kwame doesn’t get to play anymore; Bynum has struggled all year; Stuckey may still develop into something really good, but he hasn’t yet; CV and Gordon haven’t done what they were supposed to. . .
amen brother
a team of underachievers underachieving, instead of a team of underachievers playing a team game and winning.
I Like Pie
But the question is WHY the underachieving?
Look at the starters: Wallace and Jerebko are overachieving (although they have limits to their games). Rip and Tay have years of experience as winners on high-achieving teams. It can’t all be Stuckey’s fault.
Beyond the obvious injury problems, I still think that to a large extent it’s the roster imbalance. You can put a bunch of good guards and good SFs on a roster and still not have a good team.
Jonas might have a few limitations now but
He is getting better every day. In two years he will be much better because he works that hard and is still getting bigger(putting on lbs).
Hard one(loss) to swallow, thats what she said.
He's a lovely boy

Really love Jonas
He was a brilliant pick. Credit to Dumars for that—among all his truly costly mistakes, he did one thing very right this year.
agreed
this was a huge pickup, the bright spot of the season. imagine if Joe had picked someone else? the shitstorm would have doubled… thank Jod for Jonas.

Imagine if we could have had Budinger and Jerebko
Tay’s injury would have been negligble.

I think Jonas Jerebko needs to be the new Bill Bradsky
Check the sig. Every word is truer than the one before.

Jonas Jerebko killed Bill Bradsky with an errant pass
They had to bury poor Bill with a basketball wrapped around his face. Closed casket.

Jonas Jerebko once ate every meatball in Sweden...
when asked why, he simply answered, “Because I can.”

Suck it.
Brandon Jennings. Even if you do have a sweet haircut.
Oh, and

I wonder how many minutes Tayshaun Prince averages in the month of February? The kind of production that JJ is putting up should have him in the 30-35 minute-a-game range, at least.
I realize foul trouble happens sometimes with JJ, but on the nights it doesn’t I don’t know why Kuestar keeps going to the small-ball lineup that invariably means JJ gets a seat on the bench in the second half. How the hell are Ben Gordon and Will Bynum helping this team late in the game?

That has always puzzled me
Especially when Daye has held his own at SG. How great would this lineup be?
Stuckey
Daye
JJ
(insert PF – no CV)
Cousins/Aldrich/whomever we draft
Granted that would only be a situational lineup as Daye doesn’t have the lateral quickness to play 30+ minutes. However with a nice zone, that would be like having the Great Wall of China! And it certainly would benefit Stuckey to have 2 spot-up wing shooters and a nice center to drop the ball to.

Dear God yes...
You could pack the middle tighter than a 7 year old virgin while still having the length to cover the tramp ball.

Looks like you're not hanging out with the right 7 year olds...

Did you know
“He is the son of former Syracuse University player Chris Jerebko, who played professionally in Sweden and settled in that country. In 2005, he signed a letter of intent to play U.S. college basketball for the University at Buffalo in his father’s hometown. However, he decided to give up his scholarship in favor of a professional career.”

I love pretty much everything about JJ’s game. But what I love the most is this: If you were to compare pre-season game film and compare it with the game film against the C’s (for example), he’s made drastic improvements in his game. In particular, he’s already improved his shooting range drastically, and he’s learning how to put the ball on the floor and finish at the rim.
He seems to be the only guy on our roster who is not allergic to slashing to the rim without the ball. All of our guys just stand around, but he actually cuts and ends up either a) receiving a pass in motion and is able to finish at the rim or b) get offensive rebounds and tips. Our guys need to move more.
Totally agree with you.
Stagnant offenses are easy to guard against. Movement without the ball is essential for an effective offense.
