Future Hall of Fame Pistons???
It's too depressing to talk about the present.
So I'm gonna be nostalgic.
Over the past decade, the Detroit Pistons have had some great players.
I was just wondering which players will have their jerseys retired at the Palace
and who will get into the Hall of Fame.
Here are some of my guesses:
Jersey Retired: Grant Hill, Chauncey Billups (maybe Denver), Ben Wallace, Sheed, Tay & Rip (maybe the entire 2004 team??)
Hall of Fame : Chauncey, Big Ben, maybe Grant Hill
personal hope that Sheed will get in since he holds the uncontested record for most technical fouls and wears Air Force 1's.
What do you guys think???????

Well, since none of them coached women’s basketball or played in Europe, that is how many will get in.

Big Ben and Chauncey are probably locks for jersey retirement. In my book, they’re also HOF players.
Beyond that, I think you almost have to retire the 04 starting 5.
No on Grant Hill, because he wasn’t with the team long enough. Had he retired here, it would be a different story. But I think most people will want to forget the teal years completely, in spite of Hill.
As for HOF, I think beyond CB and Big Ben, no one else deserves it. People might make the case for Rip, but I doubt that actually happens. Had Grant stayed healthy his entire career, yes. As it stands now, I don’t think so.
Big Ben
i dont think he’ll ever get in HOF. 6 primo seasons isn’t enough
I bet Rodman gets in before Ben
As far as retired jersey/banners go, I hope they do not raise individual numbers for the 04/05 squad. That whole starting five as individuals had starring moments to get us a NBA Championship and two back-to-back finals appearances. As individuals they shouldn’t be praised as a team they should…how that would be accomplished, I don’t know but it wouldn’t be fitting to individually praise them (unless, all their jerseys were retired but I don’t think that would happen).
HOF: Ben Wallace should get in but then what about Rodman? Personal issues and the circus Rodman carried around holds him back but he pretty much played the same game as Ben (except for blocking shots), has more championships, and his statistics dwarf Ben’s numbers by miles.
Billups I think is one more championship away from cementing his feet into the HOF but to be honest I don’t think it will happen in the West.
And Hill will get a considerable amount of HOF press when he retires. He was a triple double machine and was that dominating SF in the 90s that pretty much did everything. Almost lost his life to an ankle injury (sounds weird but true) and came back to play and still remains to be a contributing factor on both the Magic and Suns. Not too many players come back from situations like this and still have an NBA career.
I agree
I personally don’t think that Tay or Sheed deserve to have their numbers retired anyways. Tay has proven that at best, he’s the 4th best player on a winning team. I don’t think he’s done anything especially outstanding as an individual to earn that prestige. Also Sheed not only tanked and was a major headcase at times here, but also signed with the enemy. I give Rodman a pass in that department because he always played his hardest and was clinically insane by the time he played for Chicago.
I think that’s the only fair way to do it, because in turn, the starters couldn’t have gotten even to the conference finals without Sheed, and it never hurts to have Tay as your 5th option.
As for Billups, I think he’ll get in. Keep in mind that John Stockton never won a title but he got in without question. He will always be the leader in assists, but I don’t think he’s necessarily the best point guard in history. I think that has just as much to do with situation, as he played in a point guard-assist friendly system with arguably the best pick-roll big in history. Isiah averaged nearly 14 assists the year before the Pistons drafted Joe Dumars, who averaged 5-6 assists himself; coincidence? I think not.
Long story short, it’s not so much how many titles you have won, but rather in generally what you’ve done with the situation around you. Billups has shown that he is not only the best player in Denver, but also was the best player as a Piston, as both teams have been contenders with him (one winning a title). Basketball probably has the easiest HOF to get into (especially compared to baseball), I think there’s no question that Billups gets in – it’s just a matter of when and how many tries.

i dont think hill would want his jersey retired here, the ankle injury has kinda soured him on the d i think. i think he will make the hall of fame though since they will take his college career into accout.
Yeah...leading shot blocker of...wait for it...THE DECADE
That has to count for something considering he beat out Tim Duncan…only the best all around post player of the decade (IMO)
Jonas Jerebko once killed a charging female rhinoceros in heat protecting its young with nothing more than a hook shot.
the knock on him is his offense, but if you look at it ben’s d was so unbelievable during the last decade that more than made up for his offensive shortcomings. if you can be so incredibly dominant on one side of the court like that you should be in the hall of fame. i mean ai is prolly going to get in and he was a strictly one way player.
They should just retire a number 5 jersey out of respect for the team in 04. Or maybe 6 if you count Larry Brown.
I agree.
To me retiring individual numbers doesn’t make any sense unless you retire all their numbers along with Larry Brown.
Larry Brown??? lol
I agree . None. They would of won that year without Brown. I wish they never got rid of Rick C. Even Brown said so. Fuck Brown!
