Pistons Limp Into the Big Apple
Detroit Pistons at New York Knicks, Mar 3, 2010 6:30 PM CST
It's not often the Pistons encounter a team they can look down upon in the standings, but, by the slimmest of margins (Detroit has a 21-39 record; New York, 20-39), they can tonight.
With most basketball-loving souls in the NYC metro area focused across the river as LeBron James takes on the Nets, here's to hoping the boys in blue can pull one out in the Garden -- though if they do, they'll do it without Ben Wallace, whom Vince Ellis reports is sitting tonight and will likely miss Friday and Saturday's games, as well. Tayshaun Prince, who tweaked his ankle last night, will be in the lineup.
Ball's about to tip -- let's head to the comments!

I don't.
I wish the Knicks were more of a powerhouse.
If James actually signed with them, I would pick the Knicks as my home-away-from-home team.
:::don’t kill me:::
But I would actually be able to tolerate James just a little bit.
Shout out to MFMP for this:

Check it out while you wait for the feed to come on. Neat stuff, including a pretty haunting photo essay of the ruins of Detroit.
because!
PG – Stuckey
SG – Hamilton
SF – Prince
PF – Jerebko
C – Ben
PG – Lawson
SG – Gordon
SF – Daye
PF – Blair/Villanueva
C – whoever
that team would be the best. sigh… I don’t know why I watch this team anymore. They never pick guys I want them to pick up, no matter how many times I say it over and over
I can smell the sarcasm, but we don’t get daye and lawson in that draft.

3 tough misses in a row: easy hook for CV, dunk for Prince, and the in-and-out jumper from Stuckey. Ouch.
Don't like this lineup
I think George Karl is the only coach dumb enough to use a 4 guard lineup, and that lineup includes Chauncey, JR Smith, Afflalo, Lawson and Carmelo

I really don't understand that move
They lost all their momentum with that move (falling down close to 20), but then put together a run to bring it under 10 with a more traditional lineup. Unless if Kuester did that to purposely tank, that might have been his dumbest move all season. Especially since he played CV at center. The only way a 4 guard lineup can possible not completely fail is you have a monster center, such as Dwight

Little crowd involvement
Not sure why NY is the “mecca” of basketball, this is one of the dullest games yet

yeah I was actually going to mention that
little crowd involvement considering the amount of people in the building.
I think Ben Wallace makes a little difference on the defensive end…
This team is unwatchable. God damn, Kuester. Just play the rooks!
All hope is gone if this group is watching American Fucking Idol.

I bet Garrett is watching, too.
I just loaded the atdhe feed though … I’ll try to watch the 2nd half. We’ll see.
Haha, I am. Didi was terrible. I want Lilly to win.

I’m watching via DVR and haven’t caught up to the live show yet … I’m not a fan of any of the girls, really. I like a couple of the guys, though.
It’s mostly a train wreck so far. Crystal was pretty awesome though.

Don't you think...
the lead singer of Radiohead kind of looks like a homeless Clay Aiken?

I’m not sure what it’s like for everyone ‘round the Detroit area, but FS Detroit isn’t in HD on DIRECTV. I was forced to watch the New York broadcast because it was in full HD. Really, they’re not bad announcers. Pretty impartial. But Clyde Frazier seems to announce games with a thesaurus at hand. He’s said ‘prudential,’ ‘lackadaisical,’ ‘ubiquitous,’ and ‘languish’ so far… pretty verbose for an ex-player, I guess.
That’s his schtick. He only has about 50 fancy words and he just re-uses them every game, every year.

let’s make it competitive in the second half

Time to bring Maxy back in M'kay?

We’re getting a nice look at what our team would have been minus the Benaissance right now.

If only Isaiah was still in the league
He’d be offering Bill Walker $10 mil a season yesterday.

I know I'm harsh on Chunky
But why does it seem like every time we bring him in he commits four fouls and gives up about 20 points of and-1s and uncontested jumpers?

Let's keep this respectable boys.

I'm sooooo happy we blew up the team
Otherwise we might suck right now.

Boo
Sorry for the crabby response, but this loss has left a bad taste in my mouth

Ben Gordon needs more shots
You can’t expect him to earn his money if he doesn’t shoot the ball.
No one to blame but Gordon himself
He’s getting the minutes, he just is choosing to spread the ball around. I think this is his idea of showing that he’s a versatile player, and not just a scorer.
In 23 minutes, he took only 5 shots. It’s not like the ball never touched his hands, he had 2 assists and 2 turnovers, so clearly he was doing something. It just wasn’t shooting.
Maybe he’s mad at Kuester for not playing him more? Hard to tell, though right before the atdhe feed died, the announcers caught a shot of Rip (angrily/frustratedly) saying something to Kuester. Hard to tell what exactly went on between the two because the incident was so brief on the feed.

I think that's what they were doing tonight

I agree
We were in the game until that stupid 4 guard + CV lineup. When he wasn’t in foul trouble, Rodney was quite efficient (both FG% and the fact he had 6 assists/zero turnovers), Daye was quietly having a nice game too.

Hi-larious ending to the Hornets vs Griz game
Griz are up by two with 11 seconds left, Conley (Memphis) misses his second FT. Posey (NO) gets the rebound and takes off with the ball past mid court. He keeps it until about the 3-point line when he gets cut off and realizes he has nowhere to go. Rather than throw it to Stojakovic, who was all alone under the basket, he lobs it backwards to a couple of Memphis defenders. That might have set a record for most people simultaneously saying “What the fuck?” under one roof.

Do you guys realize we have FOUR MORE YEARS of Gordon/Villa to look forward to?
By the time those twin albatrosses are off the books, Sarah Palin could be president! Many single people on this board could be married with kids!
It’s bad, guys. I try and try to imagine how we might trade those guys, but I just can’t picture ANYONE absorbing them. Both players are so bad! And their contracts are even worse!
At this point I feel convinced that Arron Afflalo is a superior player to Gordon. It’s amazing but true: Afflalo is much bigger; he can defend; he can play within a system better; he controls the ball better and looks more mature and composed on the court. His shooting percentages are far superior too. I’m leaving out the fact that he is worlds, worlds less expensive. We gave him away for nothing!
It’s almost like Dumars did this on purpose, like when I used to play Sim City and everything was going so well that I got bored and set it so that Godzilla would show up and wreck my city. Except for Jerebko, every single decision Joe has made since the cataclysmic Chauncey trade has actively destroyed some valuable part of the team. (I don’t count re-signing Ben as a Dumars achievement because that was a 100% luck thing predicated solely on Ben’s deciding of his own accord that he wanted to return to the city and the fans that loved him.)
Did you see what D’Antoni said after the game tonight? Something about how the Knicks want to avoid wasting their cap space on garbage free agents, because otherwise they will be locked into eternal mediocrity like the Pistons. The Pistons have become a cautionary tale! This is your team, guys. They have become a joke, a laughingstock.

We can't miss on this draft pick
Our two biggest needs are (1) a point guard who can shoot and distribute and (2) a big strong mean guy who can dunk and block shots and intimidate opponents and play in the post. I don’t know which one we need more. We are desperate for both.
by Bill Higgins on Mar 3, 2010 10:54 PM CST up reply actions 2 recs
I’d rather have the big strong mean guy. Shore up the inside because we don’t have productive fours OR fives (especially fives). At least we’ve got semi-capable guards on paper. They just need to play better and stuff.

Poor effort tonight
and it shows in the amount of comments for the game…
the team doesn’t care
we don’t care
just end the season
TRADE EVERYONE NOW
Just got home for the night...
Did the Pistons really get lit up by the cold, rotting corpse of Tracy McGrady?
Also, if any opposing GMs are reading this, will you please take Charlie? For the love of God, take him off our hands. Seriously, make an offer. Name the price and he’s yours. I’m begging you.
I feel like David Lee enjoys murdering us...
if only to remind us that we could’ve had him for cheaper than we got a (below-average it turns out) 6th man. Also, pretty sure Lee’s a better passer and rebounder than anyone on our too. So that’s cool. A 20ppg scorer (we don’t have one), double-figure rebounder (we don’t have one), legit low-post scoring threat (we don’t have one), a passer so gifted from the post that his offensively-minded coach runs the entire offense through him… we gave more money to a midget who does none of these things.
