Al Jefferson a Piston?
A discussion we have been having over at Canus Hoopus is the possibility of trading Big Al to Detroit. How does this trade go over with you all?
Pistons get:
1.Big Al
2. Utah's 1st (25th or so)
Wolves get:
1. T. Prince
2. Piston's 1st (6 or 7 I think)
Piston's possible starters, not too shabby:
1. Stuckey
2. Gordon
3. Hamilton
4. Jerebko
5. Big Al
So...how do you all think of this? are we way off? do you like it? tell us what you think....

Unless we’re looking at a game-changing draft pick.

wat about utah
wat do they receieve in the deal to make them want to give us their draft pick. I would love this but i would love it more if we could move rip somehow because he cant play SF. I like the deal that u said and they can become a lot better if they do this.
I’m betting the T-Wolves own the Jazz’s first rounder this year. The Jazz own the Knicks’ first rounder, so I wouldn’t doubt that they traded their own away.

FWIW, I think Dumars is unlikely to trade our first pick until he knows what it is. If it’s top 5, he might be able to get an approximation of Big Al via the draft on a rookie contract (which he should do!!!!!). If he does, this deal obviously falls apart, unless the Wolves really want Tay that bad.
With the way he has shone since Butler and JAmison were traded, I’d be willing to bet Washington is planning to build around him and make him their franchise player if they can get rid of Arenas somehow.

Some background
the deal would have to be on draft day (or near it anyway or at least after the lottery)
I, personally think it would be a draft day deal in which there was someone the Twolves were gunning for drops to Pistons pick.
I don’t think this goes if the Pistons move into the top three, but many of you have suggested the same.
Part of our consideration in regard to Prince is his expiring contract. We don’t see him as a long term contributer, he would be traded at the deadline next year, more than likely.
Part of your consideration, as Pistons fans, is that your team is already bogged down with long term deals and they are not going anywhere anytime soon. You guys need to win now. I think this is why even if Dumars where given the option of a development big verses Big Al he not only would, but probably should go with Big Al because he fits your middle aged (a NBA players go) core of players (Hamilton, Gordon, Villenueva, and company). This is just my speculation and I don’t follow the Pistons too closely.
Throw in the rights to Ricky Rubio and you’ve got a deal.

I would prefer Kevin Love
He’s a much better rebounder, has better range on the jumper, and also can play the high post very well (not as good of a low post player as Jefferson though).
Big Al’s knee problems scare me too much to give up a potential top 5 pick (there’s no question now that Big Ben is out, this team will fall to the bottom). I just don’t think he’s the same guy he was 2 years ago, Minnesota wouldn’t be even considering trading him if he was.
Favors, Aldrich and Cousins all can easily become very effective post players, with 2 having serious star potential. I’d rather take my chances on them than a guy who isn’t very athletic and has knee problems.
However - should the deal either include Ramon Sessions or a (Piston) option to switch first rounders in 2011/2012, then you’ve got me listening.
Minny's interior defense is a concern as well...
Yeah I also don’t like the fact that Minnesota has had some of the worst interior defense in the league over the past couple years. While I think that guard play has plenty to do with it, that stat can be just as indicative of the interior defenders ability to alter or block shots from the inside.
Jonas Jerebko once killed a charging female rhinoceros in heat protecting its young with nothing more than a hook shot.
I posted a fanshot on a trade for Jefferson earlier in the season, involving tay + stuck for jefferson and sessions. If we make any transaction for Jefferson, I’d prefer to do it only post-draft, and only if we end up with Aldrich. Jefferson and Aldrich would work quite well together in the frontcourt, and help with the issues Boourns pointed out above. This would slide Jerebko to the 3, which would require that he work on his perimeter shooting. But Jerebko, Jefferson and Aldrich could be pretty nasty in the frontcourt.
Granted, I’d still prefer Cousins to Jefferson, if we can land him.
Aminu, here we come!!11
Agreed
Aldrich’s defensive activity would really help cover up Jefferson and it would also mean Aldrich would be playing the 4, which is where I think he would play best in the NBA.
The one thing that scares me about Cousins is that we’d still have a serious defensive hole as he’s no where near athletic enough to consistently alter/block shots. Also while he is a dominant offensive rebounder, he’s a somewhat lazy defensive rebounder. Big Ben can help teach him better fundamentals and bring a better mindset, but even still, you would have to play him along side a very athletic big. JJ could help stretch the floor and get defensive boards, but he’s no shotblocker and is far better suited to be a perimeter defender than post defender.
