Charlie Villanueva and John Kuester still talking through the media
If I'm interpreting these post-practice comments correctly, it seems Charlie Villanueva and John Kuester are still talking to each other about CV's new role through the press instead of man to man. From MLive:
"He's been pretty consistent, pretty solid as far as communicating with me," Villanueva said. "But that caught me off-guard. I wasn't expecting that at all."
Villanueva played just five minutes Sunday in a loss to Chicago, then had his first "Did Not Play -- Coach's Decision" of the season against Miami.
"One of the things that has to happen, and it doesn't matter whether it's Charlie or it's DaJuan Summers, you've got to be ready to play," Kuester said. "Sometimes your number's called, sometimes it's not."
Villanueva said he found out "through the papers" why Kuester decided not to play him against the Heat.
"Just the fact that he's trying different things and that he had already made up his mind that he wasn't going to play me," Villanueva said. "It would have been cool if I would have known that going into the game, but whatever. It happens. It's time for me to move on."
Fun times. Charlie disputed there's a "disconnect" between him and Kuester, obviously trying to downplay any notion of conflict, but this general confusion seems to be the very definition of the word.

did tayshaun ever reconcile with kuester?
i think the disconnect with this coach is as bad as it was with flip and curry
Good. Bad. I'm the guy with the gun.
Its on Kuester.
If you want to send a message to Villanueva by not playing him then do it, and if you want do expose him to the media then do it too. But if this was not a message to Villanueva then giving a heads up to the player would have helped.
Where in the world is Cheikh Samb?
At this point, I’d honestly start Summers at PF. With Max, Wilcox out, and CV being CV, what could it hurt? Give him a chance to show if he’s an NBA player or not.
Re: Kuester, I don’t think he’s a bad coach. I just think he’s got an even worse roster to deal with than MCIAFI had last season. I mean, what are you gonna run with this team?

Media Driven
So much of this is media driven.
CV is DNP-CD. The obvious conclusion is that Kuestar is giving the rook’s some run (at least, it seems obvious to me). However, the media is gonna ask the question anyway:
“Hey Charlie, how come you didn’t play tonight?”
CV doesn’t know, but can’t say “No comment” because that sounds even worse than “I Don’t know”. Follow up questions ensue.
Then the media goes running to Kuestar. Kuestar basically says “I know what the frak I’m doing. Thanks for asking.”
The media runs back to Charlie “He says he knows what he’s doing! Do you have any comment?”
Etcetera, etcetera.
This type of thing happens on teams all the time. Coaches go with their gut, or they try and “send a message” or whatever you want to call it. They don’t sit down with players to warn them, because they don’t always know before hand.
Charlie should see this as a gentle prodding. He may be frustrated because he feels like he’s trying to play better defense, but the head coach isn’t interested so much in effort as he is in result. And the results of Charlie’s defense are disastrously bad.
Overall, I don’t think this is such a big deal. I go back to my prior conclusion; the team is just trying to evaluate the rooks right now.

I saw the future, and it does/doesn't look good
CV gets so depressed about his DNP-CD in the Miami game that he carries it over into the offseason, balloons to 335 pounds and becomes a poor man’s Eddie Curry.
Luckily though, Joe Dumars somehow strikes gold when he goes against all scouts and drafts 7 footer Donatas Montiejunas from Lithuania. While Donatas tries to put on weight, Arnie Kander comes up with a homeopathic liposuction-transference method through a mixture of yak milk, leaches, and sweet potato extract.
He extracts the fat from CV’s body, injects it into Montiejunas, and after walking around with all that weight, CV is amazingly chiseled. Montiejunas is the thick 7 foot center with the athletic talent and shooting touch we’ve been waiting for and the rest is history…

Poor Man's Eddie Curry

I’m struggling with this sentence. How could one become a poor man’s Eddie Curry? The guy doesn’t play anymore and I’ve not even seen him on the bench in a year (years?)!
How could a player have even less of an impact on his team than Eddie Curry?

Oh its happening alright...
We’re going to get either AFA or Donatas Montiejunas. Book it.

I sure wouldn't bet on it.
What if Rodney’s health problems get worse? Bynum’s not the answer. We all want a smashmouth center, so that would suggest Joe gets a guard. There’s no way to predict who he takes.
