OT - Ernie Harwell Passes

I know this is a pistons blog but I think we should all wish Ernie Harwells family the best and remember the greatest announcer in sports history...I remember listening to games on the radio with my grandpa as a small child and how big a fan he was of Ernie...It grew on me and I even got to meet Mr. Harwell once and he didnt blow me off as he chatted with me for a good 10 minutes....A great announcer but an even better person...You will be missed by the baseball world and the whole state of Michigan...Rip Ernie.

Not sure how this post hasn't been rec'd yet

But it should be.

If Comerica were classy, they’d commemorate Comerica Park as “Ernie Harwell Memorial Stadium”.

God bless you Ernie.

I believe the general consensus among Tiger fans is in some sort of agreement with this...

Ernie needs to be honored in some way by the team, more than just his name on a wall.

Ernie Harwell Field at Comerica Park

Keeps the corporate sponsor happy while still honoring EH

Oh yeah...

and this should be rec’d. Ernie was the best. I’ve only ever heard him announce along side Mario when filling in for Rod, but his stories of the game make the game seem so much more than a game. Baseball for so many people is a set of memories. More than just numbers on a stat sheet or a caught foul ball. It’s memories of sitting down at home listening or watching to a baseball game with your loved ones. For so many, both Tigers fans and fans abroad, Ernie was and still is a connection to those memories of time spent with those we loved.

Don’t watch baseball, but Ernie came and spoke at my college campus while I was a student. Top notch guy. RIP.
