Around SBN: Clippers Need To Realize That Spurs Are The Anti-Grizzlies

The Hornets are back in luxury tax territory heading into the 2010-11 season and Marc Stein of ESPN.com writes that they will likely be active on the trade market.

Rival teams will try to convince New Orleans to trade Chris Paul, but it's much more likely that they'll part with promising backup point guard Darren Collison.

Stein writes that the Hornets will likely ask any team interested in Collison to also take one of their cap-clogging contracts -- Emeka Okafor, James Posey or Peja Stojakovic.

I'd rather have Sessions

prince, wilcox and stuckey

if we have to throw in our first round pick for collison and okafor, pull. that. trigger. see if we can snag Tyrus Thomas for the MLE, we’d be nasty.

Collison | Bynum
Gordon | Hamilton
Jerebko | Daye
Villanueva | Thomas
Okafor | Maxiell

3-point shooting from collison, gordon and villanueva. Post scoring in Villanueva and Okafor. Hard-nosed defenders in Jerebko, Thomas and Okafor. Baby-hungry bench bruisers in Thomas and Maxiell. Solid bench guards in Bynum and Hamilton. I would love to watch that team…

New Orleans would be losing their starting C in the trade, but could pick one up in the draft.

I would wait until after the draft

Because if Cousins should somehow fall to us, I would not part with him even to get Collison and Okafor.

If that was the case, I would throw in a future protected first rounder along with Tay and Stuckey. In all honesty that should still get their attention. They would not dive for it like they likely would if we threw in this year’s pick, but I think that would at the very least start negotiations.

forgot to add

I would love to see that team play; talk about a fast paced game.

The thing that intrigue’s me most would be the bench. That bench would be comparable to Phoenix’s bench, who in the playoffs often times outplayed the starters (due to Drajic, Dudley and Fry). I bet you that 6 out of 10 DBBers would actually prefer that starting lineup to our current starters (with the exception of Big Ben, of course).

I still wouldn't mind pulling the trade, Cousins or not

Getting Cousins could single-handedly turn this franchise around for the next 5, 10 years. Thing is, this trade would eliminate the risks of a bust no matter who we pick. We get a proven big in Okafor AND a future all-star point guard in one fell swoop. That trade would solve both of our main issues and this team would be a perennial playoff team again.

If we draft Cousins, we’ll still be looking for a point guard upgrade.

Hmm

I like it, but I’d be concerned about the defense. I wonder if they’d take a sign-and-traded Bynum instead of Stuckey. Salaries should be close. That way, we would still have a point that could cross-match when playing with Gordon. I bet someone with cap space will offer Thomas slightly more than the MLE, just to limit the number of suitors. I’d also be much happier if they take a future first round pick so we could use this year’s on a big.

Collison/Stuckey
Hamilton/Gordon
Jerebko/Daye
CV / Max
Okafor / Draft

I’d prefer to keep Stuckey over Bynum, and I worded it as “if we can snag” Thomas for the MLE— because both scenarios are unlikely.

I’d like to see Maxiell and Thomas on the floor at the same time.

If Jod can snag a solid defensive and rebounding big in the 2nd round, that actually could work pretty well.

you would rather have sessions?

Did you read our point guard series? Collison is by far the most talented of the group. The only advantages Sessions has is that he would be much cheaper and can cross guard (but Collison happens, so far, to be a good defensive point guard).

getting Collison

AND a proven big like Okafor would be a much better option than Sessions

nah not really just that i know MP loves sessions

i do, absolutely

but still would prefer Collison, as he is the better player (especially if we could get a big like Okafor in the deal)

not really

people only get really up in arms about the draft or bad trades. an unexecuted trade isn’t the same as a favorite being on the board and passed on. Like if Joe drafts Aminu when Cousins falls to us— you might as well just shut down DBB for the next 5 years.

Man, if that happened I think there’d be mass seppuku at DBB.
