Hittin' the Links: It's 2010 NBA Draft Week, So Let's Mock It Up
The draft is this Thursday. Let's kick the week off with lots and lots of mocks in alphabetical order.
For the record, of these mocks that I also singled out last year, only Chad Ford and Draft Express accurately mocked the Pistons 15th pick in 2009. This year they have dissenting opinions. This is going to be an interesting week/draft. Hold on to your toilet seats.

UPDATE: Dan Feldman at Piston Powered went with Ekpe Udoh. He has some pretty good analysis on why he thinks the Pistons will go with Udoh if the top six picks play out as expected.
- Vince Ellis says five names are likely to be available for the calling when the Pistons are on the clock. DeMarcus Cousins is listed first. Cole Aldrich doesn't receive a peep.
- Ed Davis already has an NBA mentor in Ben Wallace. Does this make it more likely that the Pistons pick him at No. 7?
- Will Bynum wants chance to prove his value.
- 7-foot-seven Manute Bol may have originated the phrase, 'my bad.' I'm skeptical of this because it wasn't documented until 1989 and my mom once told me that my dad said, 'my bad' about nine months before I was born in 1985. Either way, RIP Manute. This will always be one of my favorite unsubtle interracial SI for Kids magazine covers:

Those are straight up mock drafts?
No one proposed a trade to move the Pistons up or down, right?

My Desire and My Prediction
Desire:
- Al Faroug Aminu (to be traded to Kings for Cousins)
- Craig Brackins
Prediction:
- Epke Udoh
- Jerome Jordan
In an earlier thread, I feel like I remember you discussing the option of trading down and then picking Udoh, Aldrich, Sanders. Was that you throwing out an idea (a good one!), or was that something you saw reported somewhere?
I like that idea.
I think sanders is going to be a star.

I wouldn't mind the Ed Davis/Art Parakhouski deal
If Cousins and Monroe are off the board, then I would be okay with that deal.
However word from a pistons draft special (it was on last night at midnight on channel 4) is that the Pistons are strongly considering Udoh. Joe also said himself that his team is very happy with their potential second rounders, so even if we strikeout on Cousins we could very well still wind up with a solid draft.
Something interesting that Joe said was that his team believes that the draft is only supplementary to free agency and trades. But if that is the case, why not wait until this year to spend our money?
by bearded thundar on Jun 21, 2010 11:19 AM EDT reply actions
forgot to mention
the name they put out for the second round was Craig Brackins. He’s no Parakhouski, but he was considered a lottery lock if he had committed to the draft last year.
by bearded thundar on Jun 21, 2010 11:25 AM EDT up reply actions
If we can't move up
to get cousins, I’d like to see us move out of the seven spot maybe pick up another second rounder for it and move down to a position to pick up Aldrich or something.
If that’s realistic of course.

My mocks
Dream scenario: Cousins/Parakhousi
What will happen: Aminu/Richards
What I’d be satisfied with: A trade down to pick an extra second rounder. Pick 3 big bodies and hope for the best.
Where in the world is Cheikh Samb?
I would call it a win
if we got Aldrich/Whiteside along with Parakhouski and Varnado (both of whom have fallen towards the late second)

I wonder if teams will actually take that into account when drafting him. You never know as the player still has to sign the contract and Kobe forced his way into LA because of that

Probably the Same Source
CDR did not want to play for the Pistons so they passed on him. The question is what do the Kings do at #5 if Cousins told them to forget it do they take Monroe or not? If they pass on Cousins and Monroe then most likely the Warriors will take Monroe at #6 and Cousins will be there for the Pistons at #7

Karsh and Anderson is pretty entertaining. They do primarily sports with a bit of whimsy due to the Taco Bell in box.
Valenti and Foster is probably one of the best shows in all of Michigan radio. Mike almost talks purely sports, Foster does a lot of sports mixed with women; both are very smart people.

Breaking news Cousins controversy
With his inability to learn the correct use of there/their/they’re, NBA scouts think he may have a slow learning curve diminishing previous accolades that he would be able to contribute immediately, thus may not be worth risking with a top 6 pick.

"Feeling is mutual..."
Maybe that is why sacramento made Cousins’ workout sound like the greatest thing since sliced bread.
If Sacramento really doesn’t want to risk being stuck with him, which is possible, they take monroe. Then I doubt that GSW will want him either given their current attitude problems with Randolph. Thus we get Cousins.
If Sacramento is a little ballsy then they take Cousins for the sole purpose of trading him, and lets just hope Joe D already crunched the numbers to create a favorable package come Thursday evening.
All this depends on what the first four do, so we won’t know anyhthing til thursday. Of course, if Cousins doesn’t pan out, this pick will be the end of Joe Dumars’ Career
See, this is why it's so hard to figure out what exactly is going on.
One minute, we’re not willing to part with Prince for Noc to get the 5th pick. A day later they have Noc traded for Dalembert. Then reports that we tried to move up and get Philly’s pick using, guess who? Prince. Now we have reports that Dumars is contacting both GSW and possibly Sacramento to move up.

Prince and the #7 for Dalembert and the #5, maybe?
I know the Kings want a veteran small forward, and Prince would certainly be preferable to taking Hedo’s terrible contract. I’d love to take a one year flier on Dalembert, too.

doubt they do it
I would do it in a heartbeat, but then their frontline falls dangerously thin if GS takes Monroe.
Besides, a lot of people (myself included) seem to have forgotten about this guy named Omri Casspi. Casspi probably won’t ever be an all star, but he’s a very solid rotation player. In other words, I don’t see them making this move. Perhaps if we did it with Maxiell and Wilcox instead, they might consider it, but I would doubt that too.

The Draft Express twitter feed does not stop. Apparently:
NBA source says both Detroit & Houston are making a major push to trade w/Minnesota to get Cousins with the 4th pick. “His stock is rising.”
WHERE DID HOUSTON COME FROM!!! We all Minnesota’s front office is crazy, they might trade cousins for a bag of crayons, or they might hold on to him and let him sit the bench behind jefferson and love for 2 years.
I blame NY
NY gave them a ton of pieces, including future first rounders to get some more cap space. Because of that, Houston could possibly move up in the draft without giving up their current first
by bearded thundar on Jun 21, 2010 4:13 PM EDT up reply actions
I think Detroit makes more sense.
We have the 7th pick, which there’s a good chance Welsey Johnson is still on the board, or if not, they could go with the less NBA-ready Aminu. So they still get their man (probably) and we can attach a little incentive to the deal.
On the flip side, Houston might have more assets, but they don’t have the pick. I don’t know if Houston’s assets alone can get them the 4th pick without involving someone like Kevin Martin.

by Roll The Dyess on Jun 21, 2010 4:40 PM EDT up reply actions
It would be interesting if a legitimate reason for him pulling out comes forth.
In the past Detroit has passed on guys who refuse to work out for them or express a lack of interest. Add to that the fact that for the past couple of weeks Aminu has been considered one of the strongest candidates for the 7th pick. Aside from Monroe, he is probably the guy I have seen the most mentioned as one the Pistons covet.
Making the assumption that his camp knows both of these things, an an agent has to know who and what they are dealing with, it seems strange that barring an injury he would pull out of a workout of a team that wants him.
So what could be the reasons? Does he dislike Detroit? Would he prefer the Clippers? DId he receive a promise from another team? Does he know the interest from Detroit isn’t real? What?
Where in the world is Cheikh Samb?
I would hope he goes to the Clippers
They actually want him; we can’t stand the thought of having him.
Honestly if LeBron wants to set his mark on NBA history as the greatest player ever, he should sign with the Clips. They have a very nice core to build around and tons of cap space. If he could turn that entire franchise around and win even only 4 titles, I think people would consider him a top 3 player of all time.

Personally, I’m surprised that this Craig Brackins guy might slip to the 2nd round:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WZdelSuiYJk
Its because his body is literally a work of Art
baha…bahahahahahahahaha
GOD I’M FUNNY. Anyways, I was able to find some limited video on him and posted it in my scouting report in the fanposts. I spent a good 4 hours scrounging up as much information on the guy as I could with DraftExpress having the majority of the info.
In the limited video we have on him, he shows a consistent touch in his jumper 15-17 feet and in, definitely prefers banging in the post, and shows an ability to finish strong around the rim.
He’s an athlete possibly in better condition than any other big in the draft given his extremely low body fat % and while I think someone claimed that while watching him play he seemed to walk up the court on offense, I’m not buying it given he averaged almost 35 minutes a game.
From his stats we know at the very least that he knows how to rebound on both the offensive and defensive glass, and that he could put on another 10-15 lbs of muscle without it affecting his frame or overall quickness, etc. He played soccer up until he was 16 and has shown relatively agile feet in the post and in defending although he needs to get quicker in lateral movement to play a larger role in help defense. He’s only been playing basketball for 5 years so for someone 21 years old, he has a signficant amount of upside.
I think at best, he ends up being better than Gortat on offense and defense. If we somehow got that out of him, and got a legit starter out of the other big we draft, then we’d have to consider this year’s draft a huge success…No point in talking about “at worst” with a 2nd round pick.
