"Detroit Pistons forward Charlie Villanueva faces a charge of domestic assault after a May 19 incident in Burlington, Ontario.

The 25-year-old Villanueva was released by Halton Regional Police on a promise to appear in court on July 9. The name of complainant and other details about the incident weren't available Tuesday.

His lawyer, Owen Wigderson, says Villanueva, "denies all allegations of wrongdoing and I'm very confident that he'll be exonerated.''"

I'm shocked myself

I could see Rasheed or Rodman getting charged for domestic assault, but not CV

by bearded thundar on Jun 22, 2010 10:11 PM EDT up reply actions

Rasheed? Never.

Always been considered one of the best family men in the NBA…shit he’s got a gigantic Egyptian tattoo dedicated to him and his family with a sun signifying him (Ra being the Sun God and ruler of all) and then his children and Fatima represented with the Sun shining down on them/protecting them.

Jason Kidd on the other hand, well he’s definitely a wife beater.

buddy that's 14 years old

Sheed’s matured a lot since then, and I agree that he’s an excellent family man. He’s just a volatile creature on the court

I love the guy, always have

I’ll buy your 14 year amnesty I guess

Yeah, I read she was his girlfriend or perhaps the mother of his child

I don’t know if that’s something you simply mature out of- but I have little facts surrounding whatever happened, I shouldn’t of even posted the link in hindsight.

I find it odd that this happened in May and yet nothing was heard of it until a month later.

And he just went about his normal days since then.

Anyway, innocent until proven guilty and all that.

Domestic Assault allegations and nothing happens for a month?

by Terrence J. Lynch on Jun 22, 2010 10:13 PM EDT up reply actions

In all seriousness, my dad just plead guilty to domestic violence.

He and my mother fought over a bag of money and she was knocked to the ground in the process. Truth be told, he wanted to fight it but didn’t want to pay the lawyer fees and make repeated appearances in court, so he took the probation and anger management. The funny part is that if he completes this, it’s complete expunged from his record, i.e. it’s almost as if he was never convicted.

Domestic Assault sounds a bit more serious, though.

I never liked charlie as a basketball player

I didn’t understand when the pistons signed him ! charlie is soft and the pistons org. has the reputation as being hardnosed & rough like the name of this web site " bad boys"!> charlie doesn’t fit that molded !! joe D is my favorite piston but i think he made a mistake by signing him to that contract. cousins is a bad boy he is the right pick we need to be mean & big again and alot more serious than we have been!! this is why we need to keep tayshun if we get cousins tay is a kentucky alumni who can chill him out if he gets to out of control nothing like a alumni!

It’s completely possible that this is just some money grabber trumping up a charge. Charlie V doesn’t strike me as the guy who would commit assault.

by brgulker on Jun 23, 2010 9:13 AM EDT reply actions

yeah this has to be a money grab

unless cv has some sort of american psycho alter ego i just cant see him laying hands on a lady.

I don't believe it for a minute

In order to assault someone your feet and hands must move rapidly. That’s not the Villa we know and love. The Villa I know is one of the slowest coast-to-coast runners in the NBA. He always looks like he’s running underwater.

CHISELED CHARLIE BABY!

by The Boourns on Jun 23, 2010 3:17 PM EDT reply actions

guys don't want to get your hearts down

but I don’t think we’ll see Chiseled Charlie for a number of years.

Think about it, if it took 5 years (since he stopped conditioning in college) to put on all that excess body fat, then it will take quite a while to burn it all off. We’ll be seeing Competent Charlie this year, and if he keeps it up hopefully Competitive Charlie. There’s no guarantee that we’ll ever see Chiseled Charlie due to a number of factors, even if he continues lifting

by bearded thundar on Jun 23, 2010 5:51 PM EDT up reply actions

Has anyone even seen CV without his shirt? He might not be a fat as everyone seem to think he is. He has slumping posture which contributes to his sloth look.

by garrettelliott on Jun 23, 2010 7:52 PM EDT up reply actions

don't need to

just look at someone’s face, it’s an easy way to tell how much body fat they are carrying.

That’s how I knew from the start of the season that Stuckey came into camp out of shape; his face was much rounder.

by bearded thundar on Jun 23, 2010 8:57 PM EDT up reply actions

Are you out of shape when....

it’s hard to bend over to pick up the ball?

I kid, I kid. Kind of. One of the knocks on Glenn Robinson way back when was that he couldn’t bend at the waist for some reason, and I got that vibe from CV last season. I’m sure all of his injuries didn’t help. I’m really excited to see his progress next season!

by garrettelliott on Jun 23, 2010 9:22 PM EDT up reply actions

that seems more due to lack of flexibility

and weak hips, both of which can be easily corrected with light conditioning

by bearded thundar on Jun 23, 2010 10:02 PM EDT up reply actions

Surprised Kander hasn't made the same Diagnosis.

by Skylar on Jun 23, 2010 10:44 PM EDT up reply actions

he probably did months ago

Kander said he wants to improve Charlie in all areas of athleticism, and flexibility would be included there.

Many people foolishly think that athleticism is only about how high you can jump or how fast you can run. But in reality balance, flexibility and genetics are just as important. While you can’t control genetics, you can improve just about all other categories to some degree.

by bearded thundar on Jun 23, 2010 10:46 PM EDT up reply actions

Definitely agree. Having good balance and flexibility really helps with finishing drives to the basket, pulling up for jumpers, and recovering on defense.

by Birdman84 on Jun 23, 2010 11:11 PM EDT up reply actions

Also helps with bending over to sit on the can, actually. Priorities, I guess.

by brgulker on Jun 24, 2010 9:39 AM EDT up reply actions

And he is getting sued too.

This one definitely looks fishy. The guy pressed charges against Villanueva for assault but the charges were dismissed. Apparently he was attacked (without provocation) by our new man of rage in a night club.
