Summer Block Party
What better way to enjoy the heat then to watch Jason Maxiell swatting shots off of the court?
Well, watching a couple more videos from Ben, Tayshaun, and the newcomer Daye is one idea, or you could dream up Chris Paul trade scenarios.
Get your baby eating bibs and barbeque sauce for some Jason Maxiell
Garnett:
Chandler:
Brown:
Bosh's chances at winning the game:
And a Dunk on Lebron (just because):
Ben Wallace has a good piece on pistons.com with his back story, but the best swats are below.

And a few others:

Daye Blocking Wade:
Tayshaun Blocking Turkoglu (weird that its only 2 year ago when were this close to the finals):
Of course, Tayshaun's biggest block was already posted.
And who doesn't love LeBron getting blocked:

I believe Tay gave Lebron a text book after that move...
because Lebron obviously needed to study.
Follow my Mechanics blog and music on Twitter
that was mind boggling
I could watch that all day
minor touch ups and embedded the videos before front paging it

oh yeah
that original link to the Howard block was the Shaq block again, and I couldn’t find the Howard block. I replaced with the T-Mac block, but if you link that block here I’ll edit accordingly.

Thanks for frontpaging this...
It’s nice to have something to think about aside from how much allegiance I should have to Joe D.
Here is the dwight howard clip, its not too amazing, but its a sign that #6 still has a little of what #3 had.
those ben blocks are amazing
its easy to forget how much of a crazy athlete he was back a couple of years ago. he stops shaq’s upward motion with one hand!
dayes biggest plays of last year
were a block on wade, and a dunk on lebron…
foreshadowing? Maybe we have a future heat-killer
Is anybody else going through to you tube and finding more videos?
If so post em
Nice Sheed Block which leads to a Tayshaun dunk on the other end.
i can't wait
until web bandwidth allows access to any classic game at will. can you imagine watching all 82 games of the 2003-04 season + the playoffs one every day during the summer? there’s way too much history there, and I can’t wait until technology makes those moments far more than fleeting.

that likely has more to do with copyrights than bandwidth
I’m pretty sure the Pistons and NBA have the rights to those games, so unless if they make the public it doesn’t matter how much bandwidth you have. Hell in Japan, because the network is so small and well done, they have over 15 gb/s with consumer grade lines, the commercial lines are supposed to easily hit 100 gb/s in the near future

Actually, copyrights aren’t an issue. The NBA owns them, and this would be an NBA product. I purchased the Dallas v. Golden State series a few years ago as a download from NBA.com. In my comment, I hope for the full regular season catalog dating back many seasons, via stream or download, with instant access to any game you could wish for.

My guess is this is actually more of a cost-benefit question than anything
ie – How much would it cost to house all of that content on servers somewhere, maintain the web portal for purchase, manage the bandwidth for distribution ,etc.
vs.
How much money will we actually make off this and/or what are we going to have to sell these at to even break even?
My guess is the NBA feels it is a greater value to add new fans/spenders to the mix than it is to try and monetize their existing core fanbase like this.
Jonas Jerebko once killed a charging female rhinoceros in heat protecting its young with nothing more than a hook shot.
most certainly
would it be worth the investment to provide all of that material if only a handful of fans per team are going to use them? I think, if properly marketed, it could be a successful product, but I’m with you that it would have a very low adoption rate.

Add me to the list. There’s not a year that goes by that I wouldn’t pay a reasonable amount to watch some good basketball during the offseason. My nostalgia kicks in and I just WANT to see some beautiful 03-04 games and especially the lakers series. Just to have access would be amazing. I was too young for the bad boys and I’d give anything to go back and watch them and even the Bulls of the 90’s.
This should definitely happen someday.

It’s a small consolation, but the Pistons 88-89 box set has full playoff games against the Bulls and Lakers. It’s crazy watching them just to see how rarely the refs blow their whistles. It’s pretty much end-to-end action for large chunks of quarters!

I wish the NBA would put out championship DVDs with full playoff runs for each year’s champ. It would only appeal to a niche market (the fans of that particular team) but considering how often LA has won, they’d probably sell quite a few, and it would probably be fairly cheap for them to throw together. I’d love to re-watch the entire 04 playoff run. And I’d actually like to watch 05 as well.

Even though the Pistons lost
I love the brand of basketball that was played in that series.

Me too. And I’ve focused so much on the championship season that I’ve never really re-visited the almost-championship season. I think 05 would be great to watch again.

just looking at some of Big Ben's old playoff statistics
And I shocked to see just how dominant he was before Sheed arrived.
Did you guys know that in the 02-03 playoffs, Big Ben recorded over 16 boards and 3 blocks per game? That’s just insanity to do that over a 20 game spread; I’d like to see Dwight even consider that. He still put up 14 boards in 03-04, but then leveled off to his usual ~10 boards. But still 16 boards! To think he did it twice (also in 01-02) is just insanity

My wife just picked up this great book the other day with a chapter on rebounding and there are lots of cool Ben Wallace anecdotes. I was thinking of doing a FanShot book review about it…..

The Beautiful Game by Chris Ballard
has a great chapter about rebounding. It’s a great basketball book in general, well worth the money for a fan of the game.

That’s the book! It’s a bit older now (I think it came out in 09) but I just got it the other day and am almost finished.

I also love how Garnett starts to say something to Max in that second clip, and when Max actually turns around and responds Garnett is like, “Nothing to see here… just going to the free throw line to shoot my free throws… excuse me everybody…”

Little known fact about Jason Maxiell. He actually is 6’9", but when he takes his thunderous strides, the earth actually recoils 2 inches from the pain.

yeah....
And if Stuckey was 7’1" he might be the best combo-forward-center in the game

Okay
I admit that comment may have come off as asinine… what I meant, and the way I probably should have phrased it, is could you imagine if Maxey was the height of the average NBA PF (6’9") instead of 6’6", how great a player he could be. I probably went way overboard with the whole best in the game thing though.
A lot of people thought he might be a Barkley-esque player.
by garrettelliott on Jul 25, 2010 6:49 PM EDT up reply actions
I definitely saw similarities between the two, but Barkley just was a dominant player and Maxiell is not. It still fathoms me that Sir Charles has career averages of 22 and 12 despite his tiny stature

Barkley’s lack of height is a little overrated because he has such a short neck. Other than helping to see over the defense, having a longer neck doesn’t help with basketball.

well duh...Its the size of the rudder in relation to the ship...
Gigantic ship with a little rudder is common enough but what water really loves is a well-built ship with a gigantic fucking rudder.

Well depending on your porthole preference, the size of one's aft cabin may make a difference
but rarely will the poop deck play a part unless things get messy upon exiting the aforementioned aft cabin.
Ultimately though, I think it all comes down to just how delicate you are when you handle their booty.

yeah this isn't from an interview or something is it?
Who the fuck stores leatherbound books alongside Vitamin Water? And why does he have two books entitled “TROUT”. I highly doubt that Lebron is that avid of a fisherman and regardless no one ever needs more than one book about trout.

Ok. Great Blocks!
Loved the block on Shannon Brown. Lakers fans getting to their feet and Max just says, sit the fuck down!

i was at that game in LA
You dont understand how much of a man crush i got on Maxiel that game! Lakers fans next to me and my bro were trash talking. Max took out shannon. we went nuts.
laker fan to us: “scoreboard!”
my bro to said fan : “Sportcenter!”
Maxy felt our pain, he delivered.
My buddy and I were at the Trailblazers game right after that and had courtside seats behind the scorer's table
Got a chance to meet Blaha and talk to him briefly and asked him what his thoughts were on the block having gotten to see it up close…his response?
A childish almost giddy smile breaks across his face, and he simply says, “spectacular”
So true Blaha, so true.
