Vince Ellis over at freep is probably misguided. He's gotten it into his head that Atlanta, after giving the max to joe johnson, is now balking at the fact that they are going to have to reup al horford next season. He proposes that the hawks would be willing to deal Josh Smith for some cap relief. Yes, that Josh Smith. While that section of his article was probably best suited for the editing room floor, imagine if it were true. What if, by some alignment of the stars, gaia, and the great earth spirit (redundant?) we could make this work by taking on one of atlanta's other misguided contracts. My proposal:

Detroit gets- Josh Smith, Marvin Williams

Atlanta gets - Tay, Wilcox, Baby eater, JJ and a 2nd rounder.

Voila cap flexibility for atlanta and two young, studly (in smiths case) pieces to our front line. Josh Smith allows Greg monroe to shift over to center by erasing his defensive deficiencies. And the pistons could finally start running that high-tempo offensive we've all been hearing about these past few years. We would be very thin in the frontcourt. But maybe we sign Koshlaw from the summer league team, take a season to figure it out, get a another lotto pick and draft jared sullinger or enes kanter.

Stuckey/Bynum?

Rip/BG

Williams/Daye/Summers

Smith/CV/Koshlaw

Monroe/Wallace/Future lotto pick

It sounds too good to be true, so it probably is. But maybe Gaia is on our side with this one.

If they're balking at Smith and Williams' contracts

I doubt they’d want Maxiell on the books for too long. Josh Smith is not going anywhere.

That team might be a top 4 team in the east. Would ATL do it? Note that everyone atlanta receives from us are on their last guaranteed year.

You should go back in time a few months to a year to make this comment on a trade of mine. I’ve gotten much better at thinking of trade proposals with lots of that being credited to your snide.

But that’s not an outrageous trade. Especially if it were 2 first rounders.

Who knows? If they extend him, they may leave themselves without enough to re-sign either Horford or Smith. Things could happen. Or they couldn’t.

If ATL is anything like the past...

They will extend Crawford. shaking head Notice the trend here? Teams are putting more stock in older players instead of the up and coming cats. I like the idea of Josh Smith or Al Horford but maybe the basketball gods coupled with gaia and some hot sauce will do the trick.
