chris paul
probably the only player id like to do that for…
Since i believe hes the second comming of zeke. your basicly trading 5 picks for him— Daye and Monroe im counting— and i hate trading first round picks. feels like were morgaging our future. moreover, lord knows okafors contract is gonna hurt. but it is Chris Paul.
Couple of questions
What do they do with Tayshaun (or Daye for that matter) when they still have Peja and Posey?
What would anyone do with Wilcox?
I realize Monroe is a hedge and probably gives good value, but isn’t he a lot like David West?
Stuckey probably backs up Collison.
I don’t see how this helps the Hornets very much.

Not worth it
Sure we’d have Chris Paul for 2 years, but once he leaves we have nothing. Like litterally nothing, no good young players, no first round picks nothing resembling a point guard for the next 2-3 years.
The only way I do that deal is we get Paul to agree to an extension, and even still that isn’t a very good lineup. Only 3 players on that roster can score with consistency, and that would, yet again, be our guards. If anything, that would be worse than Paul’s current situation because we wouldn’t have anyone that could fill the role of Collison and West. While not having a quality backup point guard may not be that big of a deal, it is a big issue that we would have no one in the front court that could create their own shot and put up at least 15 ppg consistently.

You don't think a guy like CV would fluorish with CP3?
Here is last season’s stats comparison between the two.
Their O and D ratings are either exactly the same or at least comparable (West has a slightly higher O rating, but he’s also playing with CP3 and was healthy for most of the season).
Their per 36 stats are very similar and gasp…CV actually averaged more blocks per 36 (that is a surprise…). The main difference is obviously play style…CV can extend the floor with his tramp ball which oddly enough he ended up shooting at a 35% rate last season whereas my basic understanding of West’s game is that he is a great pick and roll/McDyess like mid-range jump shooter with some post game.
And not saying Bynum is comparable to Collison but we’d have the following lineup:
CP3/Bynum
Rip/Gordon
Jerebko/Summers
CV/Maxiell
Okafor/Wallace
Actually doesn’t seem that bad of a team to me…but completely agree on the part of ensuring we get an extension out of him.

Oh and White of course
We’d fill out our roster with some big man insurance in Art Parkhouski obviously.
And just think of the epicicity of Rose v. Paul 4 times a year.

in all honesty
I completely forgot about CV because the article didn’t mention him at all in the final roster.
Regardless, I do think that West is a better player purely because he has actually gone out and got said numbers in his 40 minutes of play not to mention much more efficiently. That is tougher to do then put up matching efficiency numbers in 20 minutes of play; if it wasn’t, CV would be considered a less efficient Bosh.

The Hornets wouldn’t do this. It makes no sense for them. The Pistons wouldn’t do it, either. Dumars isn’t real big on sacrificing the future in favor of the present (especially right now. Look at the Billups trade). We’d be losing three first round, and maybe lottery, picks from this and a pick where he traditionally surprises people: 45-50.
Basically… no one would do this.

This is ridiculous
Chris Paul isn’t worth 3 first round pics (including Monroe), Tayshaun, and Stuckey. Not worth it. At all. Of course it would get love from their side.
GO LIONS! RESTORE THE ROAR!
im pretty torn
Which makes it a trade that seems reasonable, To get a chris paul your gonna give a ton. period. the guy is a legit 20 and 10 point guard.
I recall hearing about a trade for Magic Johnson by Jack Mclowskey offering the whole team to get him.
Sign Me Up
I would absolutely trade the future—daye, monroe, stuckey, whoever—for a legit star who makes the guys around him better. I was amused when I read that pistonpowered post, as this is exactly the sort of trade I have been mulling over of late.
also, I think an okafor/charlie front court makes sense in the long term.
as an aside, in thinking about any chris paul trade, it seems to me that the team acquiring him would be giving away competent point guard X, whether it’s stuckey, jameer nelson, dre miller, or whoever…and if I’m the hornets I want to move that guy for more depth and/or trade assets, since collison would be the incumbent starter. so a 3-team trade which moves a point guard to a team in need (pacers? bobcats?) makes the most sense to me.
That makes a lot of sense...
And Indiana could get involved with an expiring like Murphy…although with Hansbrough still suffering from vertigo and inner ear problems, and Jeff Foster being the only other competent big on Indy aside from Hibbert, I don’t think Indy is interested in giving up Murphy at this point regardless of his expiring deal unless they get a big back too.

Am I taking crazy pills, or does it seem like a lot of people have quickly forgotten that Paul led a team co-starring Peja, David West, Tyson Chandler and a bunch of scrubs to 50+ wins (and the 5th best point differential in the league), then nearly took down the Spurs singlehandedly in a 7 game series at the age of 22…?!
As long as his teammates don’t totally suck, Chris Paul’s team is going to win a lot more than they lose.
The line-up Boourns posted above is a 50+ win team if Okafor and Wallace stay healthy.
I love crazy pills.
I don’t see why you would hesitate to do this deal if you’re Joe.
I agree
partially because that’s something I would say :p
But mainly because he was flat out dominant, to the point that I honestly would hesitate trading him when there’s a 75% chance CP3 leaves the first second of free agency, and probably an 85% chance he leaves the a week into free agency like LeBron

Hornets247.com blogger Ryan Schwan likes this trade
Schwan collected 14 offers from around the TrueHoop network. A trade with the Magic and this trade with the Pistons were rated the best.
I can see the Pistons doing it, especially if they can move Rip for something. The Hornets get expiring deals of Wilcox and Tay, plus young assets and draft picks. It is actually possible, albeit highly unlikely. Sign me up, though.
Way Too Much
Take Daye or Monroe out of the picture, and a draft pick or two, and that would make more sense. I’m glad Dumars is the GM and not Feldman.
3 way with orlando and new orleans
Ctowne brought this idea up originally, but i’ll expand on it.
New Orleans gets: Monroe, Daye, Carter, Nelson, Bass, and a 1st rounder from Orlando
Orlando gets: CP3, Hamilton
Detroit gets: Okafor, Gortat, and a 1st rounder from Orlando
We would then go out and sign Josh Howard with the MLE:
Stuckey/Bynum
Gordon/Howard/White
Prince/Jerebko/Summers
Charlie/Maxiell/Wilcox
Okafor/Gortat/Wallace
/I’M SICK OF NEEDING A CENTER!’d
I think Gortat wants to start for whatever team he goes to.
I think his beef isn’t with ORL rather playing behind Howard. He wants starter’s minutes.
